A list of useful threads - please post your recommendations!

    Hi,

Here I have created a list of threads which I think many people may find useful. The idea behind this is that many people are asking the same questions, again and again and again, which isn’t really so bad in itself, it can just get slightly annoying to be answering the same questions again (i.e. Emperor questions), so with this list hopefully people should be able to find the info they need.

The second reason is that on these forums there is a wealth of information, however its not really organised and as such is hard to use, but hopefully this should make the information more accessible, especially with the search function not functioning at the moment. (I believe the search function is working again now, so you it!)

I hope you guys find this useful, Im certain there are more to add so please post here and tell me!

    Sir Guppy

Right I've decided to slightly reform this list of threads to make it a little easier to use, with the use of spoiler buttons to tidy everything up.

Im now also adding a section for single posts, which are really good for one reason or another, if anyone knows of a post they think is really good, and i mean really good tell me and ill stick it on.

One extra note. Where it says Thanks to ....., its because that person suggested the thread/post.

This is a new thread which I hope will become awesome in every sense of the word.

    BamOBrien's 40k Fluff FAQ

    International Campaigns

If you wish me to add a thread (which im more than happy to do) please post below, showing the name of the thread and the address. ie:

Name: This thread makes my necrons rule.
    Address: http://Irule.fish

    Updated 02/01/2008

Links to this, and other Useful threads may be found in the Backstory and Fluff Forum Rules Sticky, so bumping this thread pointlessly is unnecessary. If you have any recommendations for these threads, then feel free to post them no matter how old the last posts are.

Thread trimmed significantly. Please feel free to nominate any informative threads that deserve recognition. This thread will serve as a collection of outstanding threads that aren't important enough to need a sticky.

Hehehe... you've got to be kidding me... My thread is appalling, I mean, it was ok for a short while, even after I stopped posting in it. Dark Hunter was funny and all. But then the spam started to come down in bucket-fulls. Put my thread on the list? No, I think not.

Sved: Your head would explode, isn't that right Sved? C'mon, back me up here.

    Sir Guppy: Don't be sorry.

My post? Uh... well... I'm too biased to be able to say anything really...
True that is (for me) an excellent post (compared to my ususal spam). But there have been better posts that haven't been added, and I could have gotten something wrong. I doubt it, but is a possibility seeing as i'm no fluff god like Robert, Sved or Zatrais.

i was wondering if my thread could be added into the list of uselful threads for primarchs, it is a list of the current status fo each primarch. http://forums.relicnews.com/showthre...07#post1034607

it coudl stop all these posts of what happened to primarch X , etc

I doubt that would help seeing as we already have a couple threads about primarchs up there...

i added them both under single good posts, i felt that was the best place as they were both pretty concise posts with a good set of information.

i think this is how i would prefer to go, rather than looking through threads for information, it would be even better i feel if the searcher can just read it straight from a single post, as its generally quicker.

as a side note, the reason it took me so long to update was because i was being lazy.

I have a request to all you great TT gamers, does someone has knowledge of a site or link or private library with pictures of the primarchs? I a have HUGE library but have very little on the primarchs themselfs and want to complete it. Will put my own library at disposal of any who needs. Hope someone can help.

im not sure there are many definitive images of the primarch's. most of the artwork GW produces are about current characters in the game. there might be fan art though.

We just did a thread about pictures of Primarchs. Try the search function. In any case, this is no place for that kind of post.

Just a suggestion for the Primarchs, the Emperor, or both. Probably a bit too Magnus-centric, but I thought I'd try to help.

Why don't you add my thread titled "The Truth About Robert Frazer" LOL.

Only Kiddin. But seriously it was a joke. I didn't try to piss you all off.

Back on Topic- Do you have links to the maps of the galaxy? That one made by Ikkan was pretty good.
"Celtic fans right now sit in silence and watch, and hope that the damage doesn't get any worse from this Graham Carey free kick. Away by Wilson. Teale. Still options waiting in the middle for St. Mirren...OH, AND THEY HAVE ANOTHER ONE! It's stunning! It's absolutely stunning at Hampden park! And it's Steven Thompson, who scores his thirteenth goal of the season, and that might just be the goal that takes St. Mirren into the league cup final!" - 27/01/2013

The following may help clear up issues of redundancy and tend to be informative:
Why Do IG Get Clad in Flak Jackets

one of the two Necron and Tyranid threads (the query appears to be posed with rather high frequency).

Perhaps one of the Ork and Tyranid threads would also be of use?

Queries on general Imperial life appear with fair consistency so I believe it may be best to situate one within this thread.

The DC fluff thread is a general and thorough source on pertinent matters.

The Medusa V Conclusion and discussion threads would greatly serve to benefit the knowledge of those curious as to the nature of that most recent of 40k global campaigns.

For the benefit of the boards and all that...

Would it be possible to suggest or recommend fluff-pieces written here, to be grouped together in the same fashion as informative threads?

I also think, in a similar vein, addressing the recurring '40k-Movie' notion might save folks searching for related some time (the Damnatus thread with questions answered by the director, for example).

    just thinkin' me thinks

a thread on the 40k movie would probally be good, the only reason i dont think i added one like that was traditionally i choose the majority of threads from the backstory section and movie threads tended to appear outside of that sub forum.

as for fluff pieces...well there are tons of em, and i mean tons of em, and adding 20+ threads which will not hold any factual information about the game (what i envisged this thread to originally hold) isnt something i want to spend my time doing.

however that said if you were to collect them all together into a single post which i could stick up then i reckon that would be alright and would save adding 20+ links to an already large set of links

@Sir Guppy: Dear Sweet Gugga-Mugga. I wasn't thinking anything so complicated.

All we'd need was a stickied and locked thread. The OP would contain the nomination guidlines, which are very similar to the good-information-thread.

    1. Establishment of applicable sections:
    a. Fluff Stories (further subdivided by army/race)
    b. Player Army Fluff Stories (headings including name of player and race of army)
    c. 40k Movie/Television ideas

    2. Nomination criteria
    a. Nominations will be PM'd to the original poster IN LINK FORM for inclusion. The original poster will NOT be required to sift through the threads to find a fluff piece. If the nominator does not include the link to the thread, it will be ignored.
    b. Writers may submit/nominate their own army fluff, but not their own written works. If there isn't one other person who will speak on the work's behalf, it won't go on the list. Get your mom to nominate it if you have to.
    c. Only nominated pieces will be listed. No one will sift through all the threads to find fluff pieces. This way, fans of different pieces get to represent their favorites, and the burden of finding good stuff stays with the overall membership, and not just the original poster.
    d. All pieces must be posted on and linked to the Relic Forums. Links to other forums or websites will be ignored.

So the OP cut & pastes the links from the PMs to the list (after checking to ensure the link isn't dead, and connects to a suitable fluff piece). Maintenance is minimal (checking PMs), and its up to readers to tell what they like. Since the OP is stickied and locked, there's minimal worry about public abuse requiring moderator action. Problems or queries can be sent to the OP, or to a moderator for solving.

And what you get is an evolving list of stuff that contributors actually like reading.

All we need is a moderator to volunteer to give their blessing to the project, sticky and lock the thread once the OP is written.

I could whip something up, Sir G, so you wouldn't have to wear both hats. Or if one of the mods would rather undertake the mission before this message self destructs...

    (dun-dun-da-da-dun-dun-da-da-do-do-dooooooo-do-do-doooooo-da-da-dunna)

    Recent Changes

As you may have already noticed, we have recently removed several of Backstory and Fluff’s “database” stickies. Links to this, and other Useful threads may be found in the Backstory and Fluff Forum Rules Sticky. This was done as an attempt to re-organise the stickies and database threads of backstory and fluff, making them easier to view and also tidying up Backstory’s stickies. If you have any recommendations for these threads, then feel free to post them no matter how old the last posts are.
If you feel that a Backstory thread or post deserves a sticky, then please post your recommendation in the List of Useful Threads Thread. Backstory & Fluff Forum Rules.

I would like to nominate the thread "Weapons of 40k: Bolt Weapons"

    http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=149325

and the threads "Pre Heresy SM Armour Effectiveness"

    http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=149241

and "A Refence on Power Armor Types with Pictures"

    http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=148928

As each of these threads goes in indepth detail on all facets of Space Marine gear- so much so that I even changed a few long standing beliefs about it on reading them (I always had considered bolters as recoilless weapons). They should answer pretty much any question about standard space marine gear.
