    Unique Units

Hey. I don't HAVE the game but I was taught how to play at a .Net cafe. Bit of a noobish question, I know:

If the SM have the LandRaider and the Eldars have the Avatar of Khaine, what do the CSM and Orks have as an equivalent?

Chaos has the Bloodthirster while Orks the Squiggoth.

But, keep in mind Land Raider is not meant to be a replacement for Bloodthirster (BT), Avatar of Squiggy, only part of the replacement. SMs also get to deepstrike (DS) Dreds, Orbital Bombardment and the Terminators.

Ta very much. CSM were my first serious preferred race. First I trained with an ally on LAN against 1 bot as SM. Now CSM are my favourite. Though the infantry limit compared to the Orks gets on my nerves.

well that is the idea seeing as orks are meant to come in hoards

True. I've never played as them before. Do they go for quantity over quality or is it both?

A bit of both. There's lots of them and they're very good in close combat, but they will lose to basically anything at range.
Let's Play Europa Universalis 3: Divine Wind
Let's Play Master of Magic: Abandoned
In the beginning there was nothing. Then Steam crashed.

I think I'll give them a miss then. Stick with CSM. By the way whats that table in your signature? With the wins and losses?

Its a stats banner, you'll see a few of them around. They're the stats for online games. If you want one click one of the banners and then follow some links or other and theres a way to get yourself one. Then you just add it to your signature in the forum.

I haven't got Gamespy ladder, so I think I'll give it a miss. What are Whirlwinds like? I had some CSM dug into some craters on Valley of Khaine and they got totally mullered by a line of the buggers on the other side.

they are ok... most people only use them in the beginning though since they are fragile and predators give better anti vehicle support... although they are great at bouncing infantry around especially units with set up time like dark reapers, rocket squads and heavy bolter units....

    Damn, I like heavy bolters!

Land Raiders are not unique units, since you can build more than one.

Shinova i think the SM healer unit... cant remember its name.. but the white guys that you can attach to squads are unique units but you can have 4 of them... but true landraiders are not unique...

  15. #15
Yeah, Apothecaries have a 4-man limit. They heal and are detectors also, so it makes sense.

EDIT: The only really unique unit on the SM side other than the heroes is the Orbital Relay, if you think about it. That might as well be the SM uberweapon.

About the orcs and their population cost...

They actually can't have a whole lot more on the field than a CSM can. Keep in mind that EACH INDIVIDUAL Slugga Boy takes one of 100 cap. So, if they were to build ONLY Slugga Boys they would have 100 Slugga Boys in the field at any one time.

Move to CSMs. They have a pop cap of only 20, BUT a whole CSM squad takes only 2 of 20 pop cap, no matter how many marines are in the squad. So, CSM can have (10 marines/squad * 10 squads) = 100 CSM. This does not include the Aspiring Champions either. So, Chaos could have 100 CSMs and 10 Aspiring Champions out. Thats 110 units. Compared to 100 for the Orks (each Nob leader takes 2 food cap).

In conclusion, the Ork pop system looks unbalanced at first, but is actually quite under control.

Thanks for clearing that up, CSM. It kinda makes sense now. What would the power of one LandRaider be equal to, d'you know?

landraiders are worth 5 pop i think. thats equal to say 2 and a bit traks or 1 and a bit kanz

Basicly it can carry terminators (only unit who can do it), owns vehicles and has a twin linked bolter which I'm not sure how much it does to infantry

Predators are better than Land Raiders for simple combat in my opinion. Land Raiders, other than transporting termies, is best for psychological value, so your enemy goes, "Oh s**T, Land Raider!!" and throws everything he has at it.

Not against light infantry. Land Raiders absolutely SLAUGHTER light infantry, doing around 200 DPS without even counting the lascannons.

Which is great for LR since it has high armor and machine spirit. It fills its role as a bullet sponge well. I really wouldn't make 4 LR's though.

What about Predators with only the main lascannon upgrade?

Nowhere near. Not even with two of them. Can't remember the exact numbers, but I think they're in that thread about wartrakks.

Here's a thinker: 10 Dreadnoughts vs 10 Defilers. Who would win?

In theory the dreads. In practice, the defilers. They can all attack the same dread while the dreads will get in each others way and hinder things.

Shame you can only get 6 defilers though.

Defilers rock! They can do everything! Altough they are a bit fragile...
