    Stratagies using Webway Conceal?

    Hi everyone,

Im a fairly new player. Desperate to get to grips with Eldar. I was reading the SM posts yesterday. And a guy was talking about an eldar strat. that hes having real problems with.

Namely the webway and conceal. People are concealing their entire base and then capping strat points, building and LP plus webway and concealing both of em. That way they cannot uncap em coz they cannot see em.

Played a few times and i LOVE it. Very sneaky! Just like the eldar! Its just that im kinda getting bogged down after that and not taking advantage.

Id really appreciate any ideas you all might have

    Cheers

Keep your eyes out for Force Commander or Apothecary units. Webway Concealing is fun. Watching an FC Orbital Strike the area where your base is hidden is not. And FC's can be deepstriked from the Orbital Relay, so thats another worry you'll have, considering IIRC, the Eldar don't have any way apart from Fire Prism's to knock the FC down, so you'll either a) smack down your own base, or b) Lose your whole frickin' base to the OS.

Thats the only advice I have on this matter. I don't use Webway conceal except as an afterthought, usually.

what about re-locating your base before he can get to orbital strike? Or harrassing him so he cannot get there in the first place?

just remember that cloaking and relocation are very expensive.....is this the best way to put your resources to use? (early game, where your warpgates can't build anything? later, when you could be getting vehicles instead? still later where sm has two hero units and I believe a limitless number of apothecaries to spot your buildings?)

Edit: relocating can save your base if it happens before the fc gets there...it takes far too long to relocate to save your base from an incoming OS...

All fair points. Thats probably where im faltering...everything i own is hidden. but i cannot afford any decent troops!

How would you recomend using this stratagy? In combination with what?

I haven't tried it often, tbh.

It has better chances of working on large maps (tainted pair has very nice hiding spots, like rebuilding your base on his side's slag deposit mountain) because the opponents hero won't know so well where to look for you.

I guess it can work against fast asm because you're not building anything that costs power for a while against them and he skips the fc. first you chase him with your banshees/banshees which works well enough to prevent him from killing any lps (depends on map a lot, though), jumping your bonesingers to the lps to repair them, then, as you get the resources, get the warpgates.

whenever you try it, make sure that the warpgate that's researching it is in a safe place!

I guess it's a good idea to wait till you have a soulshrine to consider this, cause then your 100req warpgates will be good for something else, too (building shuriken plats). Banshees waiting in the warp system must be a nice surprise for any asm harrasser

in large games with friends I always spread my base out over the entire map using webways, the only thing which placement matters is your support portal, everything else can be placed anywhere and still be effective.

Very true. I've got so used to putting it all in one place. Will probably spread it out and cloak it in future. Could start off in one place then move lol!

    I noe a very irritating stratergy ...
Only build 1 (or most 3) eldar structure close to a webway gate...
Therefore ur entire base is spreaded out all over the map...
This gives the enemy a hell lot of time defeating u in an anniliate game...

maybe in 2v2 or 3v3....in 1v1, maps are too small for that....and vs a clever opponent, it's only a matter of time anyway, since he'll take down all your listening posts (he knows where those are!)...

u need not build ur webway gates near listening posts...
build it near the opponent base...use reverse phsycology..
the safest place is the most dangerous place & the most dangerous place is the safest place

sure. it just doesn't prevent your lps from being decapped = lost game if you don't have a nicely sized army already.

This is great! Loads of cool ideas. Im looking forward to trying them all. I think this is the essence of any eldar army. Having troops popping out of every nook and cranny. totally wrong foot an opponant. Especially when the large force hes fighting just vanishes, only to appear in his rear!

And im starting to always leave a squad of banshees and guardians in the webway as suggested. Its funny seeing troops standing next to a cloaked gate. Then popping them out right on top of em...confusion isnt the word!

Every so often in a fun game I'll try to teleport a BS into the back of an opponent's base during a fight, and build a webway gate in some back corner (anywhere his hero won't go anyway. You can then warp troops straight into the back of his base, or reloc an AP or something to avoid annihilate defeat (as well as giving you a comeback chance in one stroke). Also, you could build D Cannons together somewhere safe-ish, and reloc those directly into his base for some prime destruction. Combined with warping some troops in you can deal a harsh blow. The downside of course is the huge cost, so it's only going to work either in a game which isn't serious or in a large game like 3v3.

    hi,

How do u guys manage to build a warp gate in the back of a base without being noticed by your opponent ?
It must not be really easy to hide a little red dot in the middle of his map or do you know a way to conceal your bonesinger ?

hey guyz don't u know that cloaked warpgates make sounds when u scroll over them, even with fog of war ?
give it a try and u'll understand how cloaking sucks.

sorry for my english i'm french :o

Haven't noticed that but I'll have a play tonight.
If you could warp in a bonesinger behind their base and build a cloaked warpgate (maybe using a healthy sized skirmish at a CP as a distraction) you could retreat to a webway gate, reappear at the back of their base and...get chewed up by turrets  You never know, might work.

It works for me on a regular baisis in team games especially in 3v3 @ kasyr or similar map because the level is huge. I can see how it would be a waste of time in 1v1 considering teching up to cloaked web gates and whatnot. Not to mention what troops do eldar have that destroy large buildings fast? But its great for taking out generators or barracks or whatever flavor your WS feel like. Sometimes they dont even try to find the web gate or they dont know where it came from. Anyways its a lotta fun to pull it off!

Oh another trick is bluffing w/ web gates not necessarily behind there base but on another side. Anyhoo let them see your force maybe they engae or retreat but your enemy knows where your main force is and starts to build turret farms etc then you retreat to nearby web gate and reappear on the side where he is not expecting it. I love web gates.

I found a really good place to use cloaked webways/turrets on that really big red map. The one with the water on the side and its for 6 players. After getting soul shrine and all that stuff and if i am not worried about being attacked i teleport my bonesinger up onto the buildings in the middle. You can build a webway + turrets up there and if they are cloaked they can essentially hold the middle against most anything early-ish game, until whirlwinds show up.

One of the main killers of turrets seems to be Force commanders and the like, but since they are up on the ledge where you cannot get to them, you can just fire down on anyone trying to take the 4 strat points and 1 crit all in the centre. This leads to some pretty good map domination for the team you are on.
