    Outher ideas I have

Here are some more ideas for the new game.

1st SHIELDS one of the things I hated most about HW1 was the fact there were no shields.

2nd Customizable ships like in Warzone 2100 or Alpha Centauri.

3rd A.I. that takes advantage of the fact that your fighting in 3 dimensions i.e. have then circle you and attack from behind or have several groups come at you from all different directions.

About some of your ideas for the new game.

1st SHIELDS one of the things I LOVED most about HW1 was the fact there were no shields.%

2nd Keep customizable ships in Warzone 2100 or Alpha Centauri and out of HW.@

3rd A.I. already takes advantage of the fact that your fighting in 3 dimensions i.e. Although comps don't circle you and attack from behind they do have several groups come at you from all different directions.*

%Shields are over-done and cliche' for space/future based games. Untill I see the US navy (or some other navy for that matter) equip their vessel with energy barriers of some sort I dont want to see it in my HW game. Keep shields in the star trek universe and its clones. Besides there are allready shields in HW: DFF anybody?

@I like the idea of customizing my ships a whole hell of a lot. But I don't think the idea would fit well in HW. Besides in my experience (and I haven't played those two games so it may not count for much), in most games that include customization, its not who has the best configuration of vessel that wins (which would add an added dimension of strategy) but who has the highest tech in their vessel(which adds nothing to strategy and only detracts from tactics). If it were to be added in HW I would only like to see customizing my surfaces and icon decals, choosing the look of my ions and exhaust plumes, or other such visual effects.

*Comp ai sucks so bad because it doesn't use massive force tactics (ie. building till maxed then making a move), doesn't use swarm tactics, doesn't scuttle or jump when confronted with salvagers, doesn't use micro-formations, doesn't target intelligently in battle, doesn't force attack mines, doesn't ever ram on purpose, doesn't use attack-move orders in battle (ie circle around and attack from behind), and a few other things I can't remember right now. But it does use decent hyperspace tactics... I've had the comp jump in 5 groups simultaniously around my mother ship: top, bottom, left, right, and rear. But they were easy pickings due to the fore-mentioned weaknesses.

I like your idea in the other post though...
-"One research ship above the rest."

Sentinels in cata were cool, but the shilds didnt work for anything. I like the idea of them that I could add extra shielding, and it made sense that they would break down after a while. The thing was that even at level 3 everything when throught them. Maybe somthing like a gravwell that shields instead, would be good to hemp protect a ship. You could put some fighters in sphere around it and have them shot out and stay inside the saftey of it.

Shields: Unless they can be easily explained (such as some sort of magnetic shielding that I have suggested before), no.

Costomizable ships: Definitely want to see this. I have posted on this several times also (see the threads titled "Costomizable ships" and "just an idea relic won't take seriously", both are pretty far back now).

Comp AI: Needs drastic improvement, I have outlined some suggestions in "Computer AI".

    problems with customizeable ships:

i think many people would abuse special items like i often do,
in imperium galactica 2, where ships are customizeable.

i used 3 cloaked heavy cruisers and defeated about 12 waves of 20 enemy ships, which were on the same tech level as i was.
