    Questions for the Developers!

    This thread is for questions you would like to ask the developers about this game.

    There's no promise that the Developers will be posting in this thread, especially since they're hard at work on the game.

    Someguy and I are attending E3 this year, so we will be using this thread to gather questions for the interviews we do.

    So, ask your question AFTER reading to see if your question has been asked (and maybe answered!). Duplicate questions will be deleted without prejuidice :-)

    Will it be a Real-Time Tactical game in the vein of Ground Control (where you command a limited amount of troops), or an RTS with resources like Dawn of War's strategic points?

    Will there be Video Recordings, that work and most importantly is the camera zoom going to pull out alot further than DOW so you can view the entire battle field.

    ie. (zoom out like you can in Ground Control 2 or HW2 not like DOW or C & C Generals)

    1) How big will be the battlefield? Will it be limited to (relatively) small maps like DOW or players will be able to, say, deploy artillery guns on one side of the map and assault with men and tanks rather than using the usual off-map, undestructible strikes?
    2) Will the campaign feature between-mission phases like managing fuel or ammos or assigning forces from a sector to an other or it will be just like the majority of RTS?
    3) Even without between-mission phases, will units keep track of ammo or fuel? I'm thinking about tanks more than infantry units about this.
    4) I was asking about the damage model, but I thought that such thing will kill any current CPU, especially if you are going to keep track of bullets. They won't travel through buildings and obstacle, will they?

    Will You implement the same unit-painter we have seen in HW and DoW?
    Badges and other outta-the-box customizing stuff?

    How big are you making the in game "hud"? Will it customizeable in regards to size and layout? (DoW was good but a tad big.)

    In the same vein as the "What games influenced this one" - what will the pacing of the game be like? Will it be fast paced and given to swarm tactics like DoW or slower and more tactical like Close Combat?

    How many units do you controll at a time?

    Will there be command groups as in HW classic?

    Does strategy affect gameplay or are units constantly shooting 100% on all terrain, during movment, flanking... ect?

    If you beat a mission with units left over, will you keep the units?

    If you do better, will you be able to command more troops, or do worse and have less troops under your control?

    In Infantry or "Soldier-based" Squads, will the player be able to make them of different amount of units á la DoW? Will there be different kinds?

    In HW we had vehicle (ship) Squads with several units, in DoW we had not. How will vehicle squads be configured in CoH?

    How will reinforcements, if any, be called in for above mentioned Squads?

    Will the player be able to stay on the Map after completed mission to finish off eventual resources and regroup/resupply? In SP Campaign that is...

    A few more:

    1. How destructible will the terrain be?
    2. Will it be possible to garrison troops inside a building?
    3. If a building is destroyed, will it damage people inside/nearby?
    4. Will you be able to "suppress" enemy troops with heavy fire?
    5. Will squads be "upgraded" with special weapons like in DoW?
    6. Will line of site impact whether or not a unit can be fired at (can you fire through walls or smoke)?

    What is the scale of the average mission/multiplayer game? Multiple miles+thousands of troops, DoW level 100 troops + support, something inbetween?

    How differentiated will the units be? For example, are we just going to have "U.S. Tank", or "American Sherman Battle Tank" and "American Pershing Battle Tank", or "U.S. Tank (Sherman)" which will upgrade?

    What is the smallest commandable unit? Squad of 10, company of 50, etc.

    Will absolutely "Everything" be effected by physics?

    And will we finally see a WW2 game that will be realistic in terms of gore? So if a guy gets by a tank shell there will be red mist and assorted limbs. I know Brothers in Arms has probably the most gore out of all the WW2 games but even then it's still pretty sanitary.

    How realistic will you attempt to be? (Both historically and technically)

    Are a wide variaty of missions planned? For example, small-squad tactics using only paratroopers in one mission, and then the next mission features almost exclusive armor combat?

    Related, but probably mutually exclusive - will the persistent "fleet" (unit?) concept of the Homeworld series be implemented into CoH?

    Will the differant types of units (infantry, armor, naval?, air?) be designed to work together and against similiar units, or cohesive and interdependent. For example, if I want my army to compose entirely of tanks, using differant types for anti-infantry and anti-armor, would I be allowed to do so? Or must I expand out and use mixed armies? I'm not saying one-unit armies here, more like one type of unit. (For example, a frigate fleet in Homeworld)

    1-Shall the infantry be able to take more then one tank rounds? (Will they C&C infantry that can withstand direct hits from tanks, or Blitzkreig infantry that will be killed in masses with one shot?)
    2-Will the accuracy system similar to the DOW? Or will there be more twists to make an accurate shot? (will covers and standances (if exist) aid accuracy?)
    3-If there will be, how is the resource system? (capture and hold SPs or rewarded per kill or fixed)
    4-For the unit control, will be able able form or break squads? (Like a x commander unit can form up to y sized squad... etc.)
    5-What will be the role of artillery? (Like Blitzkreig, hitting from distance or like DOW, to out range and breake morale/formation?)
    6-The Morale is in. Is it?
    7-Finally will we be really scared when we hear the screaming sirens of a Junkers 87 (Stuka)?

    2. Can infantry shoot further than 25 yards and tanks 50 yards?

    3. Are there reinforcements?

    4. Can people shoot through walls and mountains?

    5. Will transports matter?

    6. Is there air or naval units?

    7. Will attacking from behind hurt more than attacking from the front?

    8. Will soldiers be able to take 30 or more bullets?

    I'm assuming that we will have control over units down to the individual soldier. That being the case, are the soldiers customizable at all (I.E. carry diffierent weapons such as the M1 Guarand, M1A1, M1 carbine, Thompson, BAR, etc. etc.) and can the soldiers carry more than one weapon or weapon type (I.E. M1 Guarand, Colt pistol, and a couple of grenades)?

    How much of real environment will we see? Authentic maps? Real Cities?

    In the screenshots we see a soldier manning the machine gun on both the tank and the jeep. Are these soldiers independent of the actual vehicle? Can they be shot off? If they are killed can you order another soldier to man the gun?

    Since the einvironment will be deformable and the soldiers will be smart enough to find cover on their own, will they recognize and use freshly created craters or the rubble from a recently flattened buulding as cover? Wil takns be able to take advantage of large pieces of cover, so that only their turret is exposed? Also, will it be possible to create cover through the use of shovels or perhaps a combat engineer unit? If so, what form will this take and will it be possible to dig cover not only for infantry but for vehicles as well?

    Not directly a gameplay question (rather about engine);
    Will we be able to terraform with artillery? I mean it seems not so possible in a regular gameplay, but for example there is a hill, after bombing about few hours will there still be a hill?

    Or is it lots props with destroyed models and different terrain parts (can be "dug" in order to change the terrain while others just deform a bit and yet as a third just show decals ala DOW)?

    Additions to previously asked questions, will the deformed terrain become cover? And wil player be able dig trenches?

    Also, not many games are having it anymore, not that important but cool to have; will there be a ingame custom music playlist (like UT2k4)?

    What innovate gameplay elements will CoH bring to the RTS genre?

    I've heard "destructible environments," but I would consider that a graphical improvement rather than a gameplay one, akin to a FPS incorporating DirectX 14.0 Pixel Ultra Super Shading. Unless of course, the destructible environments have some strategic use. In that case, what do they bring to the table?

    Some of the already-posted questions are probably too deep into the details to get an answer, at least just yet.
    1. Recent Relic releases suffered from a less-than-stellar or too-brief single-player campaign. What measures will Relic be taking in this game to avoid this (e.g. hiring professional scriptwriters)?
    2. Will the player be able to control how the company travels between combat-level maps, perhaps through issuing deployment instructions on a higher-level map that shows the entire country? Or will all gameplay take place on individual maps?

    Just saw on G4TV that Blur studio's is doing 2 CGI cinematics for CoH, hopefully that will answer for the people who have been asking if were gonna see CGI or not.

    1. As we know, there are an enormous amount of WWII games out there, what can we expect from you that make your game stand out from all other WWII games?

    2. Will it still follow the historical timeline of the war, or will it be different?

    3. How customizable will your forces be?

    4. Will there be naval and land battles, possibly working together?

    5. If relic releases another game that doesn't sell well, how many people are going to get fired?
