    proximety detonation of weapons

i think since HW is scifi the weapons should be more computerized.

so, when a projectile is calculated to miss its target, it should detonate at the closest point possible, thus attempting to caus some splash damage.

this way we can create cool anti fighter capital ship (flak) guns and group killing antifighter missiles, thus limiting the chance of getting a fighter rush.

as far as I can see, that would only work for missiles, but arent they deadly enough as they are?

[edit] I had a point to this, but i'm too lazy to think it up again.

ah yes, that would make it too easy to repel an en masse fighter rush. but it would mebbe make some interesting tactics if there was a counter to a counter attack.

    if anyone understood that.

    firstly :offtopic:

you misinterperate the word projectile, a rock is a projectile, a round from a rifle is a projectile, neither of these contain explosives, a projectle is desgned to cause impact damage, ie a sabot tank round is made of a copper core with a shell exterior, once the copper core hits its target the weight and speed cause the copper to pass through any armour, splitting into fragments, taking fragments of armour with it, these pass into the interior of the vehicle, bouncing round the inside killing the crew. a missile is designed to explode on impact or shortly after,( tho some are designed to cause impact damage). So in the real world projectiles will never become 'intelligent' because there is no need for them to.

Now to homeworld, yes you could have rounds that explode, but these would only send shrapnel out from the explosion, i don't think that this would be feasable tho, its a matter of resources and logistics, firstly a 'dumb' projectile is easier to manufacture, safer (no risk of it going of at wrong time) and cheaper, also in any battle your not looking for damage your looking for kills, so make the wepon/ delivery system better, faster etc.

    my :2cents:

[edit] if you want flak guns, these can be added as upgrades to existing cap ships, on a ship to ship basis. i want to see improved reactionary research in hw2, a new threat emerges so a way to counter it is designed, but upgrading ships is an option and affects the ship in other ways, adding point defence guns to a frig lowers its speed and so on.[/edit]
