Obliterators

    Obliterators

What uses have you found for obliterators. In my experience, they are a terrible large army unit but the best "Oh crap" unit in the game. Their extremely low cost makes them the strongest unit per requisition point, but their high population cost means that they just don't have enough power.

I have won numerous games because of obliterators (including one team game where I was reduced to my HQ (a rebuilt one), my Daemon pit (my ally saved it), my relic, and a couple power generators. Obliterators allowed me to still make a major contribution to my ally, especially since deep strike and personal teleporters let me send them straight to the battlefield.

On the other hand, their power to population ratio is bad enough that if you aren't badly struggling for requisition, they are just too weak to be worth using.

Agree, Disagree? I am hoping to find more uses for obliterators (as they're one of the coolest units in the game).

1.3 seems to have helped them out a bunch. They are definitely not pop. efficient, BUT they have such a huge amount of HP that these things are quite the damage sponge. I like them now.

Obliterators needs pop 3 and an actual buff to their laser to come close to being worth getting.

I played some in a FFA yesterday and had like 3 predators beating on them and they took forever to kill.

I agree about the 3 pop and the lazcannon buff, right now I can get better effect out of 4 pop worth of chaos marines than from a squad of obliterators. In addition, for supposedly being effective against buildings they sure do take forever to take one out.

Obliterators work best when teamed up with the regular infantry. They are terrible when fighting by themselves.

perhaps they nerfed the Obliterator building damage, to prevent them being too good as a Chaos version of the dread spam in teh enemy base.

but then again i'm nto sure it would be any more OPed than the SM base spam (which isn't really OPed after long consideration)

I thought their building damage was buffed in 1.3? I'm sure someone mentioned that in an earlier thread.

they are much better after 1.3, I've started using a squad or 2 in team games, as usually by that point in the game, my units are being killed and ds'ing them means no trecking across the map to back up a force...

and they with a hero attached they can get you sorc to the other side of map quickly... which can be pretty useful with chains of torment and the other spells...

They are ultimate melee meat shield units, btw.

Except against Assault Termies. Never match them up against assault termie.

I don't think so. The only buff for Oblits is that the multi-weap mounts fire somewhat better due to game engine improvements, AFAIK.

    Well nothing can melee ATs.
I wish Oblits started with 4 members and there was no need to reinforce.

or just two would do... it's not as if anyone would complain about paying, what? 120 req for a t3 unit?

I Don't like them that much i would just CSM over them and put heavy weapons on them and use defilers to attack the enemy at the back tho for a deepstrike in to the enemy base there priceless.

Obliterator plasma is quite good, according to my raped SM squads when facing them.

obliterators makes good eldar base killers, since they have no morale (ref. D-Cannons)

Dcannon morale damage was nerfed from 70 to 10. Splash was reduced. Friendly Fire enabled. Any Eldar who builds a dcannon deserves to lose and usually does.
    Dcannons are broken...
