What new unit(s) are you looking forward to in WA?

With a whole new race coming, and one new unit for each old race, there's a lot of things to be looking forward to.

Personally I think the IG Kasrkin squads and the SM Chaplain are going to be the coolest new units. In every RTS squad I've ever played, I'm always a sucker for special forces or elite units, so I'm really looking forward to sneaking a crack team of Guard around the map and such. I'm guessing they're going to be the Marine killers of the IG infantry. Secondly, Chaplains have the potential to be awesome. In the fluff and TT they're fierce CQB warriors, always belting out the fury of the Emperor vocally and physically. I think in the middle of a battle hearing the Catechism of Hate would add just that much depth to the game. I hope they really focus a lot on the Chaplain being able to have special abilities, like the Librarians WoTE and such. Also, they just look downright badass.

Sanctioned Psyker. He just looks so sexy.

And maybe 'eavy armoured Nobz, if their appearance means a tier 1 heavy infantry unit for the Orks.

The Beserkers I think are definitely going to be hand-in-hand with Assault Terminators (no pun intended) when it comes to starts. CC juggernauts. The Fire Dragons look downright sexy. Let's just hope you Ork players get a break in WA with MA Nobs being really good, and WS being toned down.

    I'm looking forward to everything.

Really, WA just looks that good. I'd say the Imperial General is particularly awesome. Powerclaws=teh win.

IG Cadian Kasrkin and the Chaplain, specific as DarkPyro said, hearing him while in combat yelling the wrath of the emperor towards his enemies.

Well what Im looking forward to the most is WA surprises and everything else. But What I say Im looking more forward from what has been announced is the Armoured Nobs,Imperial Gaurd BaneBlade and the Basilisk. Those are what I think the most bad ass units in the game. The Chaplian looks more slower than the Force Commander.

There is only 2 units i care about in WA the Mega armored Nobs the Baneblade they are gona be insane units to bring in any fight most likey only team game units tho.

I hope the Baneblade is in the ballpark range of power that it is in the TT/fluff. They say the armour is taking a hit, but I really hope it isn't as bad as they're making it out to be. Chaplain slower than the FC? What do you mean by that? Sure, the Chaplain won't be as good (in DoW) as the FC, but thats because the FC is the Space Marines primary hero. Still, the Chaplain should be a force to reckon with. Who wouldn't be when they're in Power Armour painted black and decorated with skulls the sigils of death? :P

I have loved the Imperial tanks every since using the Leman Russ in the single-player campaign. Just wonderful. I look forward to seeing how much artillery firepower the IG actually have. BTW, I read somewhere the commissar will shoot his own men if they try to run. True? If so, I look forward to seeing him as well.

Hmm, Fire Dragons are cool. The Chimera dominates my tactics in the Daemonhunters mod, so I'm interested in seeing how Relic's implementation plays.

I speculate that the Baneblade will be like the Land Raider. Except it'll be useful and worth it's pop and req.

Oh, I completely forgot about that. I too look forward to that. Heedless of what other people think, I enjoyed DoW's original campaign, so if this one is allegedly "better, more interesting" I have a feeling I'll enjoy the WA campaign to no end. I think being able to use each race in the campaign, the "evil" (Orks, Chaos) and "good" (Space Marine, IG, Eldar), will add a lot of depth and interest to it that the original one was lacking. When interviewed, that one dude said something about the old campaign being boring and not very fun, just like a "go here, destroy this" and then he said the new one would be less linear, and choices you would make during the missions would change the outcome of the mission and the ending of the game. I also hope there will be cutscenes of some sort - not like the "ingame" cutscenes from the original DoW.

Also, what does everyone think of the Sentinel? It seem's to me from the video that it will be far too weak too survive when the game moves into the later tier 2. Of course, that's just speculation from the video, and things are never the same in pre-release videos as in the real game. Maybe the Sentinels were unfinished, but for the presentation they quickly threw together the rest of it so they could show them off. I hope, anyway.

It lacked depth. Each mission was "Go here and eliminate all the enemies." That's it. No special or interesting objectives. There might have been "secondary" objectives, but they were unimportant, and most of the time they could also be accomplished by killing everything you ran into.

I think ultimately the only reason I played and finished it was so I could watch the "cutscenes." The missions inbetween them were just filler, something to keep me from getting too bored.

You're lucky you can even play. A few weeks ago my computer's motherboard finally felt the strain I constantly had it under, and it collapsed. So, I ordered myself a new Athlon64 3200+ motherboard, along with a couple new 512 sticks of RAM, a new case, new speakers, and a 20'' LCD monitor (my first ever), and all the other stuff you need to make a computer run which I'm not going to list. I'm keeping my Radeon X800 from the old computer, though. All of this from newegg. (I love that site now) Sadly, I haven't had time to install the game yet. I'm looking forward to a major improvement in my gaming experience.

Moving on, I hope there are some new maps too, especially a sister to Kasyr Lutien. I love that map, I play it a lot, and have been since 1.0. Hasn't gotten old yet. But I would appreciate more 3v3 maps (which are basically all I play) with the same kind of style as Kasyr. Maybe a few maps based on Deathworlds would be cool. Also, space maps like those in Starcraft would be awesome too. Maybe like the inside of a battle barge, or something like that.

    All of them.
Particurally for the new units, my favorites would be
Chaplain, Khorne Bezerkers, and a tough choice between Mega Armor Nobz and Firedragons. Really, I like them all equally, the new squads, but the Chaplain just tops it for me.

The Imperial Guard has very awe-inspiring stuff, I'll play them to the end of time.
Sentinels are a bit more fragile than the other walkers as they lack close combat but I'll be damned, they took direct fire from two heavy bolter emplacement turets, close combat damage from two squads of berzerkers, two of Horrors, and two squads of cultists at the same time, and on the way in as well! They seem to have atleast 1,500 HP or a bit more. And supposedly they are effective against buildings so they should fit well with the rest of the Guard's machines of destruction

The fact that they are adding IG as it better suits the C&C player. A bit of defensive play but still powerfull weapons.

How much damage do you actually think the regular lasgun-equipped Guardsman is going to be able to do? I personally hope they aren't god-awful. Like when a vanilla IG squad (reinforced fully) is matched up against a vanilla SM squad (also reinforced fully) I hope they can actually take a couple Marines down at LEAST. If not, I suppose theres always the Kasrkin . I have a feeling they're going to be my favorite IG unit, if not the Baneblade.

maybe a couple of marines...I wouldnt have thought theyd be much stronger than that. However, they could well be 1 pop which would even things up somewhat...as would the early Sentinel.

If what I remember from the Guard in the original they were weak to a great extent on the normal man. Tanks were fine and only massed normal lasgun was effective, (mission with the IG holding of Ork assaults example).

I would think they would make the lasguns more powerful though to at least take some marines out. more special weapons and addons should make them able to fight aswell

Yeah, in the campaign the lasguns were downright horrible. I remember using all the squads I had all fully reinforced to try and take down a squad of Orks. Thats what, 40-50 some Guardsmen to a 10-13 Ork squad? They took about 2 Orks down before they were inside my lines. I had to bring my Marines over and by that time the Orks had killed all but like 5 of the Guardsmen. There's no way Relic could do that to us.

why not? Send them to their deaths - you have kaskrin, ogryns and armour to do real damage.

  38. #38
The guards will have to be made stronger since there just so weak in DOW that on line if put in as they are form DOW i don't think you would last more than 5 seconds with them out side your base.

TBS you really think Relic would give us a starting infantry option thats on par with civilians shooting laser pointers at their enemies? I highly, highly doubt that would happen. If that was the case, the reguar Guardsmen would be a waste of cap, even at 1 pop. Maybe if they costed 25 req I'd buy them simply for meatshield purposes. But using meatshields makes me feel dirty inside. I really, really hope the regular Guardsmen squad can put out some considerable damage.

ok they'll probably be a little stronger than in the campaign - but I think that they'll be "weak" compared to the other races, thats why you'll have bunkers to hide in if they rush you and sentinels available so early.

The guards i think will have like 18 per squad i think a whole squad or a bunch of full squads will be a pain for any one to kill due to the sheer number of troops.

Standard IG troopers. Now I don't have to feel bad about losing 50+ guys. I can cheerfully yell at my troops, "If you can't kill them with your gun, drown them in your blood!"

I just hope the Sentinels are a viable armour option throughout the game. I spose if they're useless once you hit tier 2 theres always the Leman Russ's, and all the other IG vehicles. I'm really looking forward to building an army mainly made up of armour and crushing anything that gets in the way.

Its hard to imagine how they could be made useful throughout the game - for them to be fair in tier 1 they need to be destroyable by standard weapons (bolters etc), that means very low hitpoints and a hole in the ground when missile launchers come out. They'd need either a very long ranged weapon or an extreme armour upgrade in tier 2 to remain viable.

That's true. I imagine they'll still be good for harrassing/destroying lightly defended LPs, and finding weak spots in the enemy lines. I've decided I'm really looking forward to the Leman Russ. I think fielding a real main line battle tank will be interesting - something that shoots solid tank shells rather than say a lascannon, or heavy bolter. I have a bad feeling about the Basilisk. Sitting in your base getting pounded by some Earthshaker rounds by Basilisk's half the map away I fear is going to be mighty annoying. Oh well, just one more thing for me to have to destroy on my way to victory

  49. #49
If you can upgrade the Sentinels main gun to something like a Lascannon, it should still be useful late-game. It may not last long in the main battle, but a cheap, fast unit that can de-cap points and destroy light buildings would make an awesome raider, assuming you have enough time to micro it.

  50. #50
I think the sent will be a hit and run unit able to kill squads with out missile's but once missile's are out i think there gona be all most useless other than LP attacking and spotters for artillery.
