Yeah... Ignus' Action pose is starting to heat it up... I'd like to see the final version of his as well. Keep up the good work all of you!

I can see a 3 way collaboration coming up perhaps... Ignus and Vijil designing the next mech, and Shade modelling :-D Hmmm Mr Gloomy needs to get in on this :-D

Well, as much as i appreciate Uber and Ion's vote of confidence, i'm gonna havt to take a week-long break, as the BLOCK seems to have kicked in all over again...

*sigh* sorry to postpone this, guys.

Block is just a dumb word someone made up for not feeling like working. Don't make me chain you to your desk! heheheh

Seriously though: Find out what makes you blocked, work at minimizing it.

No. I block is more like this:

You sketch and sketch and sketch, and you just can't be happy with it. It's the same case here, since i tend to be a perfectionist.

Yeh. It's like right now alls I can do is colour. I tried working on daggerhawks Ion Bike last night, but it just wasn't happ'nin. Ah well. Maybe I used up my entire quota of creative genius for the month on the Dom...

Oh yeah, how would it be if I made it so the mechs foot was resting on suicide bombed bus? Hmm... even better, it could be an Israeli mech. Symbolic, don'tcha think? Because there will never be peace in the middle east. Not in our lifetimes at least.

some might take that as distastfull. Better just make it a standard bit of machinery or something.

Yeh. It would take too long to do anyways. His foot will definitely be on a vehicle of some sort, regardless.

Yeah, well, the block thing wasn't a joke at all

Lots of thoughts on what you should do in case of a block. I find that it's best to sort out what I'm feeling, and then go back to writing/sketching as soon as I feel I can afterwards.

    Under a UN mech foot...

I think this thing is really meant to fit into the Gundam universe, so I'll probably stick to something non-specific.

I don't believe it needs to be Gundamized. It just needs to be a play-off of the Dom.

Vijil, I hope you don't mind me trying to color your mech - I haven't done any coloring in months... I just wish I had a higher-res image.....

I think that'd be too easily seen as a political statement... and angering any of the sides in that debate makes trying to talk around them a lot harder.

Haven't had much time to work on it, but here's another look:

Added more detail & some shading, but it seems the scanner's contrast setting was to high. Oops.
Mine's also gonna take a while to finish, so take all the time you need Ignus.

    ...whoa

I didn't even realize shade was back, much less Vijil, Ignus, and others're doing stuff of this magnitude. I don't stand a chance to either of the three, but is a due date set yet? Can't wait to see the result.

As I recall, Relic was making a game for the Xbox, so it'd definately have to be a PS2 under it's foot if Vijil's gonna go for your idea

Besides, it has UN markings on it already.

I don't think there should be a closing date. I'm working on mine as much as time permits, but I want it to be a really good piece, and that takes time. Vigil is working hard and his entry looks stunning, and Ignus says his suffering from creative block... so setting a closing date would really suck.

sorry yasotay, i don't draw mechs.... i'd give modelling one a shot if I can get a 4-view plan of vijil's dom though.

regardless... this is some fuckin awesome work, especially from ignus and vijil. you all should be hired and working somewhere if you're not already (no modesty wtf ignus.)

in terms of detail and overall dynamism, vijil never ceases to please - his final pose is my current favorite, although i loved the previous action pose - and for a first-time coloring job with photoshop i must say i'm damn jealous. ignus' sketchy style is, as always, delightfully rough - i sketch the same quick-looking way a lot, so don't take this as a slight - and it's refreshingly different from the 'perfect' art. I'm not sure i like shade's, if only because he seems to try too hard to make it precise; the poses and styling seem too perfectly human and not gritty enough for a giant combat machine. I think the human proportion of shade's dom makes it impossible to create a convincingly impressive scale.

looking forward to the final products (and any updates along the way!)

@Molotov: I have to agree, I've always had a certain... disagreement with not showing the proper amount of sketchiness, or even of your own flaws. Hell, I've known people who deliberately exaggerate them for effect.

That said, with art that's been scanned through and coloured, generally you expect a decent amount of clean-up, but I still have to say that sketchy work helps people feel the kind of direction and process the artist was looking for, makes you think: yeah, they really didn't like that foot, did they?

@Shade: So definately correct. The public would like you to still be alive after this competition, I believe

    Xypher:

I believe Relic put up a thing asking for people with X-BOX (or at least console) experience. Considering they have already worked with Microsoft, it isn't hard to imagine that they'd be contracted for work on an X-BOX game.

Here's another small update (Did some more detail work on the shading as well):

I have progressed further than what you see above, thus the next pic will be one with some of the colour. I just don't have a lot of time to work on it, but every spare minute is dedicated to this.

wtf? Since when did everyone one these forums go around dissing Shades work? I can't say I don't really like that thing. It reminds me a bit of Bnonns art, if you remember him. Regardless, I find it inspirational, and I know that Shade has every ability to turn that sketch into something incredible. I like the feet as well :P

As for Ignus, picture some insanely cool pose that you know you can't draw, and then draw it using bubble scribbles before doing any detail. That's what I did... it blew me away.

Update: I've decided on a colour scheme (basic as) and done the left leg. Four words: I, love, pen, tablets. Go get one. I got a cheapo US$50 job, which is fine. Anyways, I've got this sweet black diamond effect going on the leg detail...

I tried the right leg last night for about three hours, but it came out all screwed up and so I'll have to start again. Damned symetry. Argh.

This thing is gonna take ages.

    I draw too much.

    wow

Nobody made the obvious joke concerning drawing mecha.

The quality of witty reparte on these boards is becoming dismally low.

Shade's picture is now pulling back in the muchos coolos vibe, and I DEFINATELY want to see it coloured

Ignus = busy, so I dunno.

Vijil = got off to a slow start but is definately the cool atm.

EDIT: @Vijil: Did you happen to notice any tablets that were non-USB while browsing? I need something for my old P1 piece of junk

i actually love shade's mech - i reckon it would be even better in a more dynamic pose, however. i think thats the clincher with vigil's entry - he really nailed the pose which gives it alot of life.

shade, my two cents here, disreguard if you dont think so, but throw some vents in, with gases escaping. maybe an action pose. that would own sir.

54x, not to put a damper on things, but how feasible is it to use photoediting software on a Pentium 1 anyway? Do you not have another box you can work on, or at least upgrade a bit?

I haven't personally heard of non-USB tablets, but I'm sure they must exist. Unfortunately, you can't get USB-serial or USB-LPT adapters, but if you really can't get hold of a serial/LPT tablet, you could get a PCI USB card for about 60 NZD.

@Bnonn: Microsoft Word is more likely to experience slowdown in my experience. Not sure if it's P1 or P2, can't remember, but it's a decent 233mhz

And no, I don't have the funds to upgrade for quite a while, mainly because it's not worth it- it's better to simply get an entirely new computer at this stage, seeing the case sucks.
