How popular is the Warhammer 40k tabletop?

How popular is warhammer 40k worldwide? Is it big for a tabletop game or is it just collected by a few thousand people. And would you think it is doing good business even with the increased prices?

Its very big. The biggest tabletop game, I'd say. Games Workshop in general is continuing to grow, and has many more than a few thousand gamers. Its got more than a few thousand shops that stock their stuff, and probably near a hundred or so of their very own stores stocking nothing but games workshop models.

Acutally this question has been answer in here:

Why is Warhammer 40k so great?

    How popular is Warhammer 40k?

I was in my GW store last Thursday and it was packed. There were people sitting on a full table paint away at their models.

Gamers came in with these hard-core stainless steel cases that had their models inside. From what I can tell there was some sort of championship match up being held on that night.

The age group was mixed. Some of them were in their preteens, teens and adults. All of them were male.

There is one situation I remembered where this little boy came with his father and he was looking at the Chaos Khorne Berzerkers Squad. From what I over heard he had one squad of space marines. The sales rep came up to them and ask them if they need help. The boy describe his situation that he was just starting out. The sales rep offer the The Battle For Macragge set for beginners with the army and rulebook. The rep told the boy that he can help him conver the Space Marines into Chaos Marines by adding spikes to them. In the end the father and son bought the The Battle For Macragge set. As the two went out of the store the sales rep said, "Remember, come in anytime and I can help you with out with your Chaos Marines" I have to say that the service is very friendly.

My GW store is almost a club hang out for hobbyist. In the end the price doesn't matter because the followers will pay for the price.

Game Workshop has pretty much a monopoly over the tabletop game sector.

GW is big in terms of tabletop gaming.

They don't make the best mini's, they don't have the best ruleset, and they don't have the best prices. Personally, I'd put Rackhams Confrontation up for all three of those catogries.

But they do have highstreet presence (well, in the UK anyway). No other manufacturer has dedicated stores like GW does, and this makes it very, very simple to get into.

Thousands is poored into big events and local stores are like hang outs for gamers.
