I have no faith.
For The Love Of God?! When Is "soon" Tbs?!?

Yesterday, Tranj was seen to say that the patch announcement would likely be "tomorrow morning" which, at this stage, is a few hours away (in Canada). The patch itself may be a little further away...but clearly it isnt going to be long.

TBS, I hope so!
wow my thread made 104 posts, should get stickied =)
Any news on this yet? My bro just got me this game for my birthday and would like to update from 1.0 but dont want to screw up my game. Currently running it at 1920 x 1200 at 96 hz with the ini hack and it's ok, although the fov is a little limited.
#107
The announcement hasnt yet been made, but we know its coming.
I have no idea whether or not it will include a widescreen fix though.
#108
rofl, my laptop died before relic was able to fix this issue, now i don't need any widescreen anymore.
I still need it, as I'm sure many others do. I understand they're busy with new products with which to earn more revenue, but it would be nice to get an update on the status of this patch. It's been well over a month since we've heard anything except advertising for their new products.

I would strongly recommend that you guys directly contact THQ and report this bug. I'm sure it's not very difficult to fix, but the fact of the matter is widescreen was never meant to be supported (I doubt the developer who 'fixed it' had widescreen to test it with) so even if the severity is moderate, occurence is low so it'd be hard to justify billing THQ for work hours on something 'minor'. On the other hand my buddy's going to do 4 months internship int he summer with Relic, maybe he can propose his own projects![]()
Hope they sort this problem out shortly, why did they indicate that an announcement on the new patch was imminent? Perhaps the new add-on should be called 'Dawn of War - All Quiet on the Relic Front' :Pint:

Like everyone else, im dissapointed with the widescreen support in DoW:WA as my screen is 1440x900 native, so while playing around with the ini files, I found a little workaround to the minimap bug today.
Basicly, you need to run the game in windowed mode, you do this by editing the local.ini file as shown here:
screenwindowed=1
screenwidth=1024
screenheight=768
Now what I noticed is that if you press the windows key or alt-tab out of the game when at the main menu, you can click and drag the edges of the window and strech them as much as you like.
For me, I stretched the height so the game is filling the height of my screen, then stretched the width till the image looked proportional.
The final step is to press the windows key again and select Dawn of War from the taskbar, to regain control of the game. It is important you select it from the taskbar and NOT alt-tab back into DoW as you will not be able to scroll the map properly in game.
I know it isn't ideal but until they add some real support, it may be useful. I'm not sure if this works on the original DoW but I can see no reason why it cant! btw. The screenshot is scaled to 50%.

Just seen on Play.com that they are taking pre-orders for the forthcoming second expansion which is due for release, by their reckoning on 1st September 2006, this may mean we have to wait until that release date before we get a fix for the widescreen problem
I HOPE NOT
#114
No, there will be a patch before then (and maybe more than one).
Still no word on whether or not it fixes widescreen though...
Just had an horrible thought, what happens if the 1.5 patch rectifies the problem, only to find that when the 2nd expansion is released, the same thing happens as that of the installation of WA!! The patch that came with that screwed things up for the stretch screen gamers. Especially the mini-map! :grumble:
My laptop runs at 1680x1050 @60hz native.
With 1600x1024, 16 or 32, the minimap is broken.
All other resolutions work but look chunky.
Obviously many other gamers are having the same problem. Widescreen monitiors and laptops are grabbing lots of market share and this is a serious gameplay concern.
I hope Relic can fix this. Until then I guess I just won't play it much when I'm mobile.
Bump. Submitted this to THQ Eight months ago, and that was when Tranj suggested they'd try to fix it. Still waiting. No widescreen, no expansion for this fan, and I looove and recommend DoW and WA to friends.
OK! i hate to be the asshole here... BUT SERIOUSLY! WHAT THE FUCK?
OK lets recap, Dawn Of War was release like what? August 2004, that is 2-0-0-4, so far, only one patch (1.3) supported widescreen... Almost a year later WA was released and boom, it comes with 1.41 and that means NO WIDESCREEN... the least Relic could do is fix it for the people who brought the expansion, if they are too dumb to fix the problem in the first game... and i mean comon, do Relic even test their games before release? or is this game company is just too poor to buy at least one WIDESCREEN LCD, even though the game has all the resolutions... hey RELIC! did you know widescreen is 16:10? not 4:3 with 2 black bars and a buged minimap
So far relic has done NOTHING about this, I think those of us with widescreen and brought WA was riped off.
Im ganna find their emails and send them this letter of mine, we are the customers so WE ARE THE BOSS
to be honest, i hope someone kick me and delete this post, so maybe while doing so they will hear what i have to say, but i doubt they will, because i simply dont think they care about this topic anymore
--add--
ok another interesting thing i noticed, the widescreen bug is not even on the MASTER BUG LIST, this just shows you how careless Relic is on this issue, enough said.
and to the mods, i know this is ranting, and rules says dont, but making us wait for like a year and half and still no patch is unacceptable... its not like this is mission impossible for Relic, we ALL remember that 1.3 widescreen worked on Dawn of War! so it can be done!

I decided to come back to Dawn of War recently, I hadn't played in a while and was interested to check out the expansion. So I bought the "gold edition", installed and fired it up. I play on a laptop now where 1280x800 is the native resolution, I was surprised to see nothing besides 800x600 and 1024x768 in the graphics optimization screen but figured I could change it in game. So of course I change it to 1280x800 and get the black bars and bugged minimap.
So I came here, I see one dev post of "We'll look into it"... Seriously, I haven't bought a game in a really long time that didn't have any real widescreen support.
I assume this isn't be fixed, its not listed in the 1.5 patch thread. I guess I'm just going to return the game, if I can... This really sucks Relic.
#120
The 1.5 patch thread only lists balance changes, we dont know whether or not the widescreen fix will be in the patch.
Now, cut the ranting in this thread please or I will be forced to lock it.
You guys might want to check www.widescreengamingforum.com for a possible fix. I haven't tried the one listed yet but there are a few "solutions" some people got to work looks like.
Like others, I just blew $1k on a 21" widescreen and am dissapointed that there is still no support.
It should be noted that DOW:WA is the ONLY game I own that doesn't support widescreen. For the record, some of the games I own are:
C&C: Generals/Zero Hour
Battlefield 2/Special Forces
LOTR:BFME2 (yes, even EA were kind enough to support WS)
Far Cry
Quake 4
TES: Oblivion
Half Life 2
CS:Source
Dungeon Siege 2
KOTOR 2
Lack of WS support in this day and age is simply unnaceptable!
I have Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 from way back and even it supports widescreen with an ini hack, lol
Just thought I'd add, I came back to WA after a long hiatus and having obtained a 1680x1050 monitor in the interim. Now, among games released in the past 2-3 years, I was more excited about Dawn of War and Winter Assault than Oblivion, Quake 4, Half-life 2, anything, having been a huge Relic fan since Homeworld. I'm so disappointed that widescreen support is so halfarsedly implemented, but I have faith it will be corrected in 1.5.
I'm really dissapointed this still hasn't been adressed.
"Si vis pacem, para bellum"
Just got my 20" WS and no support from DoW. Great.
Sooo, has anyone checked to see if 1.50 has fixed the widescreen issue?
Good to know I'm not the only one with the issue. Thought it was on my end. Finally got some friends to buy the game and I bought a laptop to carry over for some LANning. The letter box thing I can deal with if I have to, but the scrolling issues and the mini map thing make it nigh impossible to play. Mouse goes all over the screen QUICKLY...scrolling the screen way out of wack when the pointer goes into the black areas. And trying to click on the minimap in the lower left corner usually results in clicking one of the buttons underneath, thereby screwing up something. Please provide a fix or a hack or something. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I didn't see a fix mentioned in the 1.5 post, but I will try it tonight.
1.5 doesn't appear to address this bug. I bought a laptop recently and installed WA on it with the latest patch. The minimap is still bugged... lol
But I have to say the game works a crapload better on my laptop than on my PC, YAY!
Ok so here is the update. The new patch allows me to run the game without the CD in the drive. That's pretty snazzy. However, 1280x800 still has the minimap and scrolling issues and of course the black bars down the side. However, when I run the screen in 1024x768 the minimap is now fixed on my laptop. Sure it's a tad bit stretched but ef that. The whole screen is now filled with no black bars and no minimap or scrolling issues. I can deal with that until they get a real fix. Just wanted to let everyone know. BTW, this is with vanilla DoW, no expansions or mods, ATI x600, v1.5 patch, 15.4 wide laptop. If anyone needs anymore info, I will be doing some more testing tonight with hacked ini and some 3rd party resolution editing software.

UPDATE:
Widescreensupport will be natively included in Dark Crusade. So finally I think all will be pleased with the release of DC.
I would have bought DC anyway, but it's nice that they've finally thought to fix this.
I fully expect that when I *do* get DC, and stop using 1024*768 scaled to 16:9, I'll get the uneasy feeling that my guardsmen are too tall.....
Falk.
Hey all.
Same ol' story. Bugged minimap. Weird text. Black bar image-croppers. Beautiful 1440x900 playback that got shot since 1.4.
Is there a que to join the club and get the shirt?
Adding in my 2 cents. 1440x900 as well. Right now i just play in windowed mode and stretch it out.
I know they will support it in the upcoming expansion, but i hope they release a patch. I just got the gold edition, so it'll be a while before i'm ready for the next expansion.
Just FYI, I have a widescreen on my laptop and you can get the black bars on the side with any game played at standard resolutions by unchecking an option in your video card control panel. Usually it's something called "scale image to fit panel size." This will stop the distortion and add the same black bars on the side for any game and it won't bug out the minimap.
I'm happy that the rumor is this will be fixed in the next expansion pack, but I have to say that it is really pretty pathetic that this bug has gone unfixed for over a year. Does Relic just not care, or are they simply incapable of fixing the problem?
Hm...the Demo of Dark Crusade is out, but still no widescreen. Thought it should be in there?
#138
Tranj and Buggo have both said that while the DC demo doesn't have widescreen support, the final version will.
If DC will be having the widescreen fixed, does this mean it will fix widescreen for DOW original and WA? Will it be a patch?![]()

ah - it's not just my mini-map!
would like the tshirt as well please. can cope with black bars, but mini-map is fairly annoying. anyone found anything to fix it?
Hi, all. I hope you'll forgive my resurrecting a "dead" thread, but I just wanted to find out, if the widescreen issue in DoW and WA has been fixed. I had no problems with DoW until for some strange reason I decided to patch the game, and now it's just unplayable in widescreen (1440x900) which worked just fine before. I tried installing all the patches (up to 1.51), but the problem just doesn't seem to want to go away.
Right now I'm just wondering whether there's any point in getting Winter Assault. I know DC has full widescreen support, but from what I've heard (and this has been confirmed by info from this forum) it doesn't influence DoW/WA in any way.
I can always uninstall the game, getting rid of the patches and reinstall it with ver. 1.0, but that option is limited to DoW only, WA is patched AFAIK.
So... has the problem been solved, or should I go back to 1.0??
No, DC doesn't influence DoW or WA in any way, shape, or form. Then again, it wouldn't serve much purpose to uninstall DoW and WA, especially if you plan on playing DC in multiplayer.
I can't offer more advice than to say that either way DoW and WA won't ever truly support widescreen. If they haven't fixed it 1.41, 1.5, or 1.51 then they're not ever going to get to it, especially with DC being the primary subject of focus for Relic and THQ.
Well, that's the strange bit: version 1.0 did support widescreen, and it worked without any problems, the minimap was fine, there were no scrolling issues... Sigh. Oh well, thanks for the reply![]()
Well I would like a fix for Widescreen for DoW and WA as I still play some on Multiplayer cause my friends don't have DC yet. Also i still want to play through both campaigns and it is a bit annoying having the black bars on the side...![]()
They really need to make wide screen like Company of Heroes.. where the minimap/HUD is somewhat black bared but the actual playing field is wide..
i also noticed scrolling to the corner of the screen sometimes doesn't work
and of course the minimap showing up wrong
surprised how long this thread has been going and it's still funky
I just joined to say, please fix this. It shouldn't be too hard since all the way up to version 1.3 widescreen worked correctly.
I would downgrade, but Winter Assault automatically updates DOW to 1.4, officially breaking widescreen support.
DC will bring back more users to DOW, and more people have widescreens now than ever, so please go back to your 1.3 code, find the snippet that made widescreen work and release 1.52! Or perhaps a knowledgeable user can do it?
Upon further research it's been well over a year since this bug was discovered and reported. Over twenty thousand times people have viewed this thread. More than any other thread in this forum. However, the bug still remains unresolved and the support seems to never be coming.
Some bugs never get fixed, and that is -to some degree- understandable. Developers can't work on an old game forever. The fact that this is something that used to work in previous versions and that does work in the current "expansion pack" is what surprises me, and the rest of the community.

no solutions? not even editing a ini file?
I also am looking for a mini-map bug fix for DoW:WA.
Thanks.
I want this thread revived - I do not have WA, or DC and don't intend to get them. However the 1440 * 900 resolution is still an option in DoW so I want it to work without the map bug. Almost 2 years since this bug was reported - I want a fix.
EDIT: and no i'm not going to revert to a previous version.
Just wanted to add something. Since my resolution is 1440 * 900 every other option of resolution is widescreen apart from 1024 * 768. That means even if I did stretch a normal resolution myself via graphics settings it would look absolutely terrible.
Sorry but I really don't think its unacceptable that resolutions that worked before via not-so-perfect methods now simply do not work at all. There has been plenty of time for a fix for this to come out.
This problem seems to have been ignored despite being one of the worst mistakes I can think of in gaming history. Insert widescreen support to cure a problem players have found a sufficient workaround: result break workaround, break all widescreen support thats not of certain ratios. Solution employed: Bring out a new game and hope people stop asking about it.
Tranj said in a previous post, we're looking into it. Well, nothing has been posted since. When you looked into it what did you find? You could at least say that you're not going to try and fix this anymore.
