Something very very wrong with WA

My copy of dawn of war and winter assault were working fine, but recently it hasnt started up. No message or anything, it does the spinny disc icon and the computer whirs up and all but it doesnt start. Ive tried the compatability and reinstalling. The most annoying thing is that it used to work! Anyone got ideas as to why it stopped working and how to fix it?

Im having the exact same problem. I am running WinXP Pro Sp2, i have an ATI Raedon X1800. I installed DOW and WA on my last system, The same exept and older NVidia card. Everything worked fine. The 1st time after playing WA on my new card everything worked, the game ran great ( I ramped up the gfx settings and all a-ok). But then, when i tried to run the game the second time - and now every time after - all i get is the hourgalss for a second ro two then a total system freeze (a reset-button reboot neccessary). I get no error logs or anything. Frustratingly DoW still works, its just WA. I have totally re-installed both, i scoured the registry and everything. I tried doing the compatability thing but no-dice, this is really annoying, especially as it did work and now its foobar'd.

*edit* Concidering that WA is just a Mod of DoW and uses the same bloody engine i really dont understand this.

Its not memory, nothing else is behaving like this, ive noticed others have had this same problem, the game just freezes - along with everything else) before it even checks the disk (if the cd isnt in it still does it). Was wondering if theres anyhting to fix it. DoW itself works fine - ive just updated to 1.41 but it still does it.

    memory is always worth checking.

It could also be Norton or some other security software being a pain in the ass, shut down any such software that you have and try again (reboot first if you have tried to run WA since your last reboot).

theres the problem, you may be able to recreate that folder...if not then a reinstall will certainly work.

I've got a similar problem. I have Soulstorm for Win7, and it's been working ok with tonnes of mods. It will occasionally not load at all though - when I put the CD in, the computer will try to load it, the cursor spins for a loooong time. When I have "My Computer" open, the green loading bar/address bar takes up a show loading something, and it loads very slowly, and at the end it doesn't loading anything. There is no indication that there is even a disc in the drive, no soulstorm icon. I click on the DVD drive anyways, and sure enough - "Please insert disc". I try the exes, shortcuts, mod shortcuts, etc., and the DoW small featureless message window pops up telling me to "Please insert disc".

But I usually just restart the PC, or sometimes even just taking the disc out, and putting it back in, maybe putting a different disc in before that. It will load eventually, albeit very slowly. But once the disc has finally been successfully loaded, the game works like a charm.

Now, it won't load again, but I've been trying for days. It's gotten worse to point where I need help. The last thing I did to modify my DoW folder was by putting the SS Corsix Mod file and it's other files into my main SS dir. I'm gonna try to delete every file that came with the Corsix download. I've already deleted the Corsix exe, still the disc won't load.

WTF IZ WROOOOOOOONG WITH THE WOOOOOORLD?!

    Heeeeeeeeeeey I figured it out.

It was just the CD. It's been scratched a bit, so smudges affect it more now. I took a cloth to it, and presto! It finally loads.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP BOYS & GIRLS

Glad you got it working. Now I'll lock this thread so nobody else is tempted to resurrect a thread that has been dead for over 6 years for an unrelated problem...
