Setting environment variables

Anyone want to assist me? I am having difficulty setting the environment variables for the RDN package and Maya 7.0 under Windows XP Pro SP2. When I start Maya, I get: "Unable to locate valid MAYA_APP_DIR. Please specify a writable directory where Maya can store user data." It starts after I guide it to a directory but I do not think I should have to. Could someone post a guide or examples to assist me? Should there be quotation marks?

There is a guide in the RDN Documents. Do you have HW2 plugins for 7.0?

You can go right click on My Computer, select properties, and then select Advanced on the box that appears. The second option is "Environment Variables". Click that, and the second ListBox (on the bottom) is the "System Variables" option.

Click "New..." and manually select enter a value for Maya_APP_DIR
