    Star Wreck!

Star Wreck is a Finnish scifi comedy-movie, parodying particularly Star Trek and Babylon 5. It will be up for download today.

The effects look really neat, and the movie has English subtitles. If you're interested, check the trailer at www.starwreck.com.

    It's awesome.
    'nuff said

Edit: Just noticed you can't download the trailer anymore, i'm not sure, but i think it will be back when the movie is released.

I saw Dreamship Surprise at the Seattle International Film Festival. It was weird, but pretty good. I'm not sure how similar it is to this.

I finally watched it. Althought I hate Star Trek ships this definatly is a fix for your space war action.

about people helped building the starships.

Hopefully at the lake. Miss that place terribly in the winter.
VERY enjoyable. Obviously more than the occasional cultural joke, but the translator did a pretty good job, and there's a ton of very funny situational humor and just plain farce in there. I nearly fell off my chair when I spotted the featherduster.

Special effects were brilliant. Too bad they couldn't do a space sim with those kind of impacts, where large portions of capships get blown off and such.

I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this film, but I do get the impression that some of the humor really only works if you have an understanding of Finnish and the culture.

The sad part is that I think I actually enjoyed this parody of Star Trek more than the last two Star Trek movies.

There are some sims where ships break into pieces, but none that I know where it's dynamic... :/

This movie was great. It really does put allot of the hollywood spacefilms to shame just on how good it was considering how many more millions your average film costs. Common whats not to love about twinklers and lightballs Love the ending.

Don't forget the push drive and the suck beam.

I really have to wonder how much it cost to make.

I've already watched it for something like 3-4 times.

    Retro:
    The money question

Q: Damn, you must be very rich when you can afford a film like this...Huge sets, studios, actors and render farms!

A: What sets? The bridge sets are all virtual. The on-location shoots were made at locations that didn't cost any money (schools, public places etc). The "bluescreen studio" is actually a small piece of blue linoleum in Samuli's living room...

For Samuli this is a somewhat costly hobby, but as a movie it's still very close to a zero budget. The most expensive part of the production has been keeping the computer equipment up to date.
No straight answer as to how much it did cost, though.

And the obligatory quote: ''Have some light balls.''

    "Lightballs, you said LightBeer"

I saw it coming, but it was still funny ^^

I hereby request the mods to allow me that avatar (pretty pretty please with sugar on top)

And when Babels flagship fired its main gun and it showed teh power failure and the mainscreen re-booted DOS style.... BLISS

the bridge sets were obviously CG if you looked closely at the people as they moved around, but it was very well done.

I don't know if I'd buy the DVD but I'd certainly send $5 these guys way.

It wasn't bad. Had it's moments and hard to believe those space scenes were actually done by a bunch of swedish trekkies.

Just watched this last night. I have to say I was extremely impressed. It has good humour and I love the CGI battles.

In particular, I like Sherrypie's speeches and the part where they go to view the recording of Fukov's ship destroying the starfury but instead a...shall we say..."different" video was played lol!

    Highly recommended.
May the power protect you, always.

It's awesome, that's right. But Mr. Dictionary, it certainly is not Swedish!

Finally got around to watching it this morning. Liked it enough that I'm watching it again, even though I'm normally allergic to subtitles. Great stuff, quite funny.

If you're watching it on your PC, take the time and watch it on DVD. It's worth it just to see the battles on the big screen. Hard to believe they were put together by amateurs, using a "render farm" of 4 PC's set up in one guy's kitchen on a tiny budget.

eheheh.. That was a great little movie.. The only thing that tripped me up was when Pirk didn't choose the slavic hottie as one of the three to be beamed down at the end.. Info I can belive but Dwarf!? It's gonna be a lonely time for Pirk I guess.. (But maybe not for Dwarf..)

Yeah she was fine alright. Maybe as a hottie, she will get the honour of becoming my display pic for a little while....

I wonder if the DVD they sell is higher res/better quality than the downloadable xvid. IMO the movie is too compressed. That should be the medium quality file.

Dunno about the DVD. Is there an order form in English somewhere?

I made my own from the divx file. Turned out quite good enough to watch, IMO.
