    [mod] Winter Assault Battleground

    Oldman and I are really proud to announce the release (when hosted on filefront) of WA_BATTLEGROUND, new mod for WA only.

    The Mod uses the Full-scale units routine that have been used in previous mods and includes
    many new units and types to enhance your playing of Winter Assault.


    The IG units are as Winter Assault provided----Although they act differently due to the new race units and Build orders. (AI modified)




    The space Marines now include the new units
    1:: Veterans--White helm and custom icons--with custom sgt



    2:: Devastors---Blue helmets with custom icons--with custom Sgt



    3::Tactical squads---with custom icons and Custom sgt with Red Helmet

    4::Snipers
    5::Chapter master along with Force_commander and the chaplain
    6:: Venerable Dreadnought along with standard Dreadnoughts
    7:: Dedicated Fast Attack Hq including Tornados and Typhoons
    8:edicated Annihilators and Destructors
    9::New equipment and weapons


    The Chaos marines now include the new units
    1::Minor Devils attached to Heretic units
    2::The darkone Major devil from earlier games
    3::Havoc marines



    4::Chaos Dreadnoughts
    5::Teleporting Khorne berserkers
    6.New weapons and equipment


    The Orks now include the new units

    1::Bigun---ork superarmour
    2::Bonehand-charcter fig.
    3::Grotzboys--fast moving gretchin
    4::Killa can and Huge Bigga Kan dreadnoughts
    5::New weapons and equipment


    The Eldar now include the new units

    1::Kal-Toneth--character fig
    2::Eldar sniper
    3::Heavy support aspect teams with dedicated support platforms



    4:eadly swordwind teams able to teleport into your rear areas causing mayhem
    5::We Had the Wraithguard but had to remove due to compatibility probs with WA
    6::New weapons and equipment

    Lots of smaller enhancements to help you enjoy the game

    Neither myself or Krass (There are only the two of us working on these mods) have "Good coding
    abilities nor are we great texture artists----we do our best) so if the Tex or icons dont look
    "Polished"then i have no excuses----My interest is in Good gameplay---and we both believe
    we have achieved that

    The Ai will construct all the new units for Allies and Enemies alike--resulting in some VERY
    HARD battles--You never know what is coming out of the fog Next!!

    I hope that you enjoy this mod--It was made for singleplay experience---But i dont see any
    problem in multiplay as long as you both have the same mod in the same place.

    Any problems or querries you can find Oldman or Krass on the relic forums under this thread.

    Pretty cool, but any chance of making it so you activate it with the mod manager instead? So we can turn it on and off without having to move the directory.

    Hey great mod you got here!
    I love the tanks scaling (especially the dread one ) but i was wondering if there will be a new version with fixes, for example about that annoying purple boxes that appear after completing upgrades. Also the SM rhino has no model, all i see is a purple box wandering around the battlefield
    There will be a new model for the chaos dread?

    Pink box-Rhino Issue : try to run WAB with model option set to high.
    Chaos Dread : we are just 2 on this mod and no modeler... If somebedy can provide a Chaos Dread model : yes, else....

    Hello Shyft.
    No prob : just extract the archive on your desktop. You'll find a "data" folder. Just have to put it in the winxp folder (in DoW) and run WA without mods...

    Good mod, but I think that the standard AI needs to be toned down a bit, or the easy Ai needs to be boosted a bit. Need to find a balance between Holy Fark I'm being overrun, to I just totally stomped the 'puter without effort.

    Great units, and fun fluffy stuff tho.

    Hello,
    Re-standart AI : the standart AI si harder than the vanilla's, but you can "easily" win.
    You just can't wait to build a "big" army, esp if you play with allies. Your ai allies will not launch major attacks without you !
    Even if you want to "tech" or turttle, you have to keep an agressive behaviour.
    Hope tihs will help.

    Hmmm found another little bug...when you upgrade your SM predator it ends up with no turret nor cannons at all to be seen, just the chassis stay even if it fires anyway

    I always ignored this thread because I thought it always said "mod Winter Assault Background"
    It was only when I descided to see what new background was offered when I realised that I always miss read this thread title.

    Hello,

    @ Spizio : I hope the little trick solved your Rhino's prob (if not pm me, we'll find a solution). For the pred, you're the first to report this bug. I'll investigate.

    @ CHip : welcome on boad, I hope you'll like the mod.

    We are maybe not as talentuous as other major modteams, but we do our best to have a better game-experience.
    BTW, the mod proves to be successful for lan-parties or net-caffee games.
    And we are most happy to be over the 1000 DL (thanks to dowfiles for hosting) in less than a week without a single website or good PR stuff to show.

    Well I've came accross a few things.

    Chaos Horrors can be built straight away from the Chaos keep, and when you do get the sacrafice pit you can build them again but their build icon is .........strange?

    Also I have seen many pink boxies mainly where an icon should be.
    Furthur more I would rather prefere the icons of new units (Deverstators, veterans etc..) to show more difference rather then the text (I find it hard to read and at a glance I don't know what they are)

    There are tank problems as you know and the Chaos preditor lazers aren't seen either - the actually purple lazer itself.

    But other then that, it's fine

    As said, we're not gifted (at least I'm not !!!) with artistic skills. We do our best with what we have ! I know, I repeat myself, but we are just 2 in this mod... If anybody wants to help with icons or models or everything...
    Predators lazers for chaos : works fine on my side, but i'll check...
    Anyway, Constructive criticism or report is welcome !
    Sure you'll find some bugs : remember we're doing this without modtools. We had (Oldman's the guru) to hex edit lot of files to have new units ingame, and avoid WA to overwrite some of our file with own routines too...
    But the most report/feedback, the most we can fix improve !

    I'm a gifted artists who isn't currently doing anytihng,

    I could always sture them up, wont take long and looks like a normal thing to me.
    However I must say that I'm rather lazy and are in the middle of an animation project but I'm sure I could get them done

    Also I did try out 3D models a while back - never really got that going but I'm sure that with my free time I could possible begin making 3D models but this is a long shot and most proberbly I'll get bored of it (like every other project I start )

    But those mini icons - I could get them done straight forward.

    I'll PM you as soon as I get any done, the maim problems I noticed were that there was no grey scaled images for when the icon was in active and so it was defaultly set to a pink background.

    Krass - can you list down all icons that were edited or missing.
    These are what I have found:
    • Spacemarine tactical squad
    • Spacemarine Veterans (Red helmets right?)
    • Spacemarine Devorstators (Blue helmets right?)

    Oh conscripts sweet, and paratroopers sound good as well.

    Just got the mod, and im impressed, but the priest looks pretty damn big[almost bigger than a space marine]
    Also im not sure if devestator squads should be in 10 man squads in they all have rockets... but oh well good mod
    The Force Commander and I even visit the same barber, although I have a slightly better taste. Hair gel on calderas, how'd he swing that?

    Just to let you know we have released a patch\addon for battleground---it should be on dowfiles shortly.
    The readme is attached below for contents.

    Due to time constraints and commitments this is the Final Mod from myself and Krass
    We have enjoyed the making of them since its conception early this year this being number 5 in the full-scale series.
    But as said there will be no more due to other commitments.
    I would like to thank all our loyal gamers and supporters for their help over the last months and hope you enjoyed them

    I would also like to send my thanks to THUD/Larkin and ai team for their incredibly hard work---sometimes ignored in creating the ai "Familly" to present day---having dabbled with the ai i know the amount of work they put into it---and without it the games would be very "Sterile" -----Thanks for the great work!.

    The patch/addon is as is-----no more additions or changes-----Love it or Hate it -we will not be able to do any more with it---as said "Final"

    So Thanks again and i wish the community well.

    SEE BELOW FOR INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS


    Changes with this patch\update

    1. Thuds\Larkin 1.5 ai is implemented with unit additions for the mod(Thanks to the ai team)

    2. ALL units have been rescaled----reduced to approx 15mm scale rather than the current 25mm scale
    to help with vehicle and troop movement and prevent "Traffic jams"

    3. The indroduction of conscripts----made at infantry commands---poor discipline,poor firesupport
    but in large numbers.

    4. The indroduction of air support building-allowing paratroopers to be made and other troops to be dropshipped
    The paras are good troops and well armed---however they are expensive and very vunerable on
    first landing until their special officers and heavy weapons are built.(Note-Building has heavy flamer defences)

    5. The indroduction of support sentinels made at air support(not air dropped) armed with
    heavy flamer.

    6.Chaos predator fixed--also chaos troops given a special increased resource to make them
    extremely aggressive

    7. Bugs in original game---resolved---Space marine destructor removed and replaced with vindicator.

    8. Many weapon and stat changes to help "Balance"

    9.New building routines for different styles of gaming and ai implimentation for new troops.

    10. New formations for the Guards troops and a new Leader


    *********INSTALLATION****************
    Please follow thes instructions carefully.

    1.download the patch to your desktop.
    2.open the patch folder go to extras folder and move the WAB folder and WAB module. file to your thq/dawn
    of war directory------this alows you to activate the mod via your WA mod manager when you boot the game up.
    3.Next go to your OLD battleground DATA folder and DELETE the AI-FOLDER and THE ATTRIBS Folder.
    4.Next place this OLD battleground folder minus the two folders you have deleted into the
    WAB folder you have previously placed into your dawnofwar directory.
    5LAST====copy and paste the new Patch\DATA folder into the WAB folder---let it overwrite
    everything.

    Thats it boot up the game and select WAB from your game manager.

    Again thanks to Thud\Larkin and ai team for their superb work in bringing a new dimension
    to ai play and i hope they forgive us for "Taking Liberties" with some of their coding!



    This is the *Final Mod* in what was started As "Full-Scale" many months ago, both myself and

    i doubt they will, even if you want to use them for your own purposes, other people will just copy/paste, re-name a few things and call it there own.

    kjon, I'm not getting into a debate but not everyone is a thief. This mod repackages Relics code and calls it their own, hehe

    Some modders need examples, there'd be no modding base without Relic providing the code to start with, or at least, with your persuadivness, you'd make sure Relic never released code to those who'd resave it and call it their own.

    Love the mod mind going into a bit of detail as to how to fix the pink transport problem thats the only one i have with it.
    EDIT:
    i did find one more i couldnt find to make the machine cult and wond up with a very late start with tanks i keep seeing that mini turret any ideas?

    Nice mod, I noticed when testing out the chaos faction that the minor devil actually loses health like the bloodthirster, and also the new hero the dark one. Didnt seem to be worth the point cost to me for that loss.

    I love the deamon prince though. very spiffy.

    Hi,

    WA: Battleground is a very nice mod, and I like playing it. Only trouble is, that every time I try to save a game I get a "failed to save" message. Has this happened to anyone else? Or is it a problem that I have with my installation?

    I would appreciate any help.

    Yep. That's exactly what it is telling me when I try to save a Battleground game.

    I have several other mods that I play, and it is the only mod that won't let me save.

    the MOD is 78% done, but II think its going to be excellent.

    Alright I've extracted the files, and i know where the data file is, now how do i moe it to the winxp folder?
    edit: my dad helped me when i explained dawn of files to him. exellent mod, very very good.

    The mod is finished as much as it will ever be. If you read previous posts from the mod creators, you will see that they have finished all work on the mod, and there will be no further development.

    What you have done seems to indicate to me that, if you run WA without any mods loaded, you have made the WA:Battleground files overwrite your original WA game files. i.e. the WA:Battleground units/stats have now become a permanent part of your WA game. Unless of course, if you manually delete them.

    There are two downloads for WA:Battleground. The mod, and a patch for the mod.

    You would have been better off following these latest instructions from the mod maker (that you will find on the previous page of this topic). Followed correctly, it allows you to simply use the game manager to quickly load, and unload the mod as you wish (and keeps things very tidy):
