Knew about the film,but
Peter Jakson !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:3dcool:
wtf?!
This is going to suck BAD!

I can't believe Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame is going to be the Executive Producer of the Halo film. Why did they let that talentless hack near this movie? Jesus, I saw the Lord of the Rings and was bored to tears over the shittyness of it all. Now this guy has the chance to ruin a great sci-fi story that I like? ARGH!
What happens in Greenville, SC stays in Greenville, SC.
Funny, I thought LOTR was great. And after seeing all 6 DVD's of "Making of...", I'd say that with his attention for detail and pushing everyone far too far, this may be the first good game movie that will be.
I mean, I'm not even angry/scared/anxious as I usually am with game-movies.
*ahem*...
Well, I'm not a huge fan of Halo, but this is still cool news. Videogame-to-Movie adaptations suck generally, but maybe Mr. Jackson can pull it off.

I liked LOTR's, i like halo, so it stands to reason i will like the halo movie, well, it gave me a smile.
Just have to wait and see how it turns out now.

Yay, finally, a game movie that has the potential to not suck.

90% of the movie going population dissagree with you. Anyways, you should be happy. It was going to be UWE BOLE. Uwe Bole is the worst director in the history of film, and that's a fact; not a matter of taste.Originally Posted by vertigo about PJ
Also, Peter Jackson (imo one of the greatest and most obscenely talented directors of all time) is not actually going to direct. He will be executive producer.
As to your opinion of him, I'd like to ask whether A: you've ever read LOTR, and B: you've ever seen any of his other films. If you answer no to either, I'm afraid your opinion counts for almost nothing. PJ has made some very fast paced action based flicks as well.
The fact is that the LOTR books were slow paced, and as such he did an *amazing* job creating the same feel that they had. If you don't like it when a movie based on a book is at all like the book, that's fine. Go watch Garfield or something.
Halo huh? If that possible, then perhaps there will be Warhammer 40k one day. Anyway, this topic is about Halo, so yeah. Good to see some game movie.

Vijil, that's an awful line of reasoning. A movie stands alone as a story. If you didn't see any of the other works by the same director and you didn't read the book it was based on, you are perfectly entitled to your opinion, and to have it heard.
Now, of course, it's not Peter Jackson's fault if someone was bored to tears by "Fellowship of the Ring." He made it as exciting as he could, given his desire to accurately reproduce the novel. If someone was bored to tears, well, they should try reading the novel and just let it all out and have a good cry. Myself, I thought it was an exciting movie and the novel tended to get bogged down in details, although I didn't have a problem with it.
#13
Yes squid, that's fine, but to call PJ a "talentless hack" and to assume that the Halo movie will be terrible because of that is not justified. That's what I was arguing against, not Vertigos opinion of the LOTR film.

I think the Uwe Boll thing had to be a joke. I really can't see Microsoft and Bungie destroying the Halo franchise by letting Boll come within a hundred miles of it.
Well, since I never made a decent comment, I'd like to make one now.
Halo may have a great storyline (so they think), but the main disadvantage is that I really don't think there is not much to discuss in this movie. He can't really feel any emotions (hate, love is a great extent) and the whole movie is really fight scenes. But even then, it isn't going to have much horror content as such (except from excessive blood). If I wanted to watch excessive fight scenes, I'd play the game instead.
I really don't see HOW the storyline is going to work.

No horror? The Flood scared the shit outta me. Here I am, happily kicking ass and saving the world, and the next thing is I'm running like headless chicken trying to get the hell out of there.

At least this has tons more potential then the DOOM movie.![]()

Doom. Is. Dumb.
But yes, Fellowship of the Ring is /supposed/ to be boring. If you wanted boring, you could have insisted on one of the countless singing scenes in the book, and they didn't transfer that many: I believe they made only one, and that was in ROTK somewhere.
But yeah, HALO film is going to be without substance. Perhaps even more so than your run of the mill WW2 movie.

Halo has lots of story to work with, they could even borrow a bit from marathon. Cortana could go all hal on us...mwahahaha. Or durandal, whatever.
I hope they put in the e3 2000 movie of halo somewhere.

Halo can become a great movie, believe it or not a good story doesnt require some overly unrealisticly hot "scientist" needing saved, and finishing the movie being the sole survivor with master cheif and flying away together making out.
If you want ANOTHER movie dealing with an unrealistic relationship of two individuals in unrealistic situations, read a love novel or something.
I think Halo has good potentional for story, especially if they made the first film a combanation of The Fall of Reach (one of the books) and Halo 1.
Fall of reach has a very good story, would introduce everything to newcomers to the franchise, and would please alot of people with its great space and ground fights.
This is the liberty we won for ourselves. Outer Haven.
nurizeko I agree with you in the fact that they should NOT NOT NOT put in a love story with the Master Cheif. It just wont work. I will be praying to the Movie gods to let this game based movie be good.

the manuscript is written by bungie themselves... they are having a really big part in making this. how much better can it get?
Bungie are some of the best story tellers in the games industry(imo) they'll find a way to make it all great.
and theres nothing wrong with LOTR... great movies... just one thing... they dont follow the darn story properly!! in fellowship it's about as accurate as you could want in a world of shitty filmatisations. but it jumps off at the two towers and gets worse from there.
#25
I wonder if they'll combine Halos 1 and 2.
My Interceptor is better than your Interceptor.
As far as I know, I don't think it has anything to do with the main themes of either of the games. I think it is going to be a completely new story.
#27
Its fantastic news. Not just because PJ will have some imput on th film, but also beacuse WETA will be doing all the practical and cgi effects for the film.
Imagine, if a fan-made elite can look like this:![]()
what will a $60,000 one look like? The Chief himself will be shiny, too!
Ooooh, WETA!
This sounds better and better...

Peter Jackson has never directed, produced, or touched a movie that I have liked. That is why I say this movie is going to suck. LoTRs was boring and overdone in allot of places. I hate to think Halo would get the same treatment. The only other movie that I have seen from Peter Jackson is Frighteners which sucked.
#30
I agree that the themes and plot from the novels in general and "The Fall of Reach" in particular should be in some way incorperated or at least recognised. I for one what to know where the other surviving Spartans have been spirited to.
But I do hope that they maintain Master Chief's faceless nature. Learning that MC was called "John" was a major case of too much infomation as it was. He is the faceless warrior and I think that really needs to be preserved during the film. Besides, those reflective visors are so damn cool.
I also agree that a love intrest would completely defeat... oh, everything. Fluffwise, all Spartans have repressed sexual drives and they universally seem to feel almost no emotion exept fear, sadness and mild satisfaction.
Hopefully the grunts will get a lot of screentime. So damn cute!

So, Vertigo. Was just curious - is it even vaguely possible for you not to be a trolling dick in every one of your posts?
Now that Uwe Boll's gone, the Halo movie's got a lot of potential, considering how much pressure they're putting on the makers of the film to get it right.

I enjoy Peter Jackson's directing, but I stand by what I said last time: I doubt this will turn out the way any fan expects. Or wants.
Still, I don't want to crush anyones hopes. So, here's to well made movies.![]()
[Vertigo] how can you say LotR was overdone in any places? Have you read the book? There is about 3 pages of description before anything happens at the start, and it's still boring when it happens
<<Disclaimer>> Content may be erroneous or bullshit spouted at random. Do not be alarmed.

omfg wtf lol petter jaksone wtf
Seriously though, Bungie wins.
I have high hopes for this Movie being the Major LOTR Fan and just by looking ay my sig a halo fanand Im moving to New Zealland soon.

Did you not like Brain Dead Vert..? I thought that was funny as hell.
Though I strongly suspect HALO the Movie will be atrocious. Its only salvation i think would be to gun for some kind of Starship Troopers/RoboCop satire.

Why should I have to read the book for the movie to be good? Shouldn't the movie be able to stand on its own? A story is a story no matter what form of telling you use. LoRT was horrible because it was forgettable. They tried to make it an epic and they succeded in only making the movie overdone. I swear to god, the actors couldn't stop from making their lines melodramatic. Aww, Frodo needs to take the one ring(tm) to Mt. Doom, and he feels sad; that isn't good acting. Then afterwards they talk... and keep talking about how they feel, about past events, or giving advice.Have you read the book?
I hated all three movies for some of the same reasons. The actors couldn't stop being excessively dramatic in all three movies. The fight scenes were over done, with bad cammera work, and way too much CGI. The only good fight scene was near the end of the first movie where Aragorn takes on that Ork. The sets were overdone and forgettable as well. I couldn't care less that they made a whole village for the movies. The Elf City loses most of its detail due to the time the film spends in it. The same goes for the other locations they made for the movie.
So, unless I like LotR I am a trolling dick? Classy, real cassly, Mr.Popo.So, Vertigo. Was just curious - is it even vaguely possible for you not to be a trolling dick in every one of your posts?
Yeah, almost as classy as "Why did they let that talentless hack near this movie? Jesus, I saw the Lord of the Rings and was bored to tears over the shittyness of it all" or saying that the victims of Katrina deserved everything they got because they didn't have the means to evacuate.
I mean, is it really THAT hard to say, "Personally I didn't like LOTR; was just too boring. And I don't think Peter Jackson should be involved, I mean he is a little overrated."
So, what IS it about this thread that made you think useless inflammatory remarks were relevant to the topic at hand? You do realize that Jackson is only producing the film, right?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, guys, don't make a fuss because some IGNORANT DUMBASS WHO DESERVES TO BE SHOT thinks LOTR is not a good movie.
(Just to be sure, I'll add a smiliein case if this will be taken seriously)
I admit: I did not like the LOTR trilogy; I loved The Hobbit but saw nothing exciting about LOTR. On the other hand, I think the movies are masterfully done.
It is good that Peter Jackson is the executive producer for Halo, but how much control will he have over the project? Some said that Bungie are great storytellers but I am forced to disagree. I see them as nothing but pompous, arrogant fools who think they are gaming gods for creating Halo.
Just my thoughts about this.

I don't even like Halo... Half life has a better story imo, even Homeworld. So far as I can tell, the main reason Halo has done so well is because its the best thing available on console - and console games are generally pretty crappy compared to PC.
I wonder if Vertigo will like King Kong...

Probably not, how many times can you watch a movie with the plot of: watch monster tear apart a city, and be entertained. It got old after Godzilla, the origonal not the remake.

Of course not.. big ape screaming and beating it's chest.. hows that for being excessively dramatic?
When it comes to Halo.. i hate to sound bitter but if my luck concerning Halo continues Microsoft will release a new type of hardware mediaplayer when the movie is 90% done which means the movie will have to be ported to this new suckier format which also, after about 6 months of extra wait, will mean the regular format will be dumbed down. Actually.. i am bitter.
In all seriousness though, like others have said if they promptly have to keep making movies out of games this one has the biggest potential yet. I just hope they try to focus more on the ongoing conflict between humans and covenant that does extend beyond the current games than trying to make it a 'closed' movie.. ie one where no loose ends are left.
I really don't see how Halo would work as a movie... Great game, but a movie? Still, I remain hopeful. I have yet to see so much effort go into making a game-based movie good. If any game movie ever had a possibility not to suck, it is the Halo movie. Though I am afraid it will suck hardcore. :\
I am a bit worried that Halo 3 will suck to. Using Halo 3 to spoil the PS3 launch might be a good idea on paper, but that means the development time will be very short, on never before used hardware that is extremely difficult to harness properly. And their attention has been diverted by Halo2 maps, Halo2 patches, and now the movie.
Please, please don't suck.
/me goes into a corner and cries his fanboi heart out.

Whats so hard about turning Halo into a movie?
Start with a CG scene of aliens attacking station. Space ship takes off with genetically engineered supersoldier inside. Ship gets chased across galaxy, lands on Halo. Follow genetically engineered supersoldier around on Halo and watch him kill aliens for 2 hours while revealing the plot. Detonate fusion drives, destroy Halo, fly away with the purple AI girl and the black sergeant, and beome the only science fiction movie where the black guy doesn't die first.

It's not a bad plot for an action movie at all, plenty of opportunity for explosions, cg, bad ass heroes and one liners.

It has to be better than Uwe Boll. It has to be better than Uwe Boll. It HAS TO BE!
I'm pretty excited about a Halo movie but more so about a game movie which has a chance at greatness. However, if MC falls in love or takes off his helmet at any point in the movie I will hunt down Peter Jackson and murder him along with his family, his pets, slaves and hangers on (kudos if you get the reference).
#50
You know, I'd actually find the MC taking the helmet off interesting. If done right, you could convey the lack of emotion inherent in the character quite well.takes off his helmet at any point in the movie I will hunt down Peter Jackson blabla
