    Karos Users Pruned

197 former members in the Banned Category had thier accounts deleted.

1195 Users were deleted who do not understand how email works and thus never got thier accounts working in the first place.

8466 Registered users were deleted who have under 100 posts and haven't visited the forum in 90 days.

193 Registered users were deleted who have under 1000 posts ( 95% had 200-300 posts ) and haven't visited the forum in 180 days.

2 Developers that haven't visited the forums in 700 days were deleted.

1 Random member was deleted just because I like to be evil..

Hmmmm i wonder who the random was. :dyn:

Also though, did the pruning take into account that members who have invisible mode on don't officially record what their last logon date was?

Guys, I don't think this is going to speed up the forums. All the deleted accounts belonged to people who hadn't visited the forums in at least 90 days - so they never contribute to the traffic increase to begin with.

Less users = smaller Users table = higher MySQL performance

That's how I think it works.

Hopefully at the lake. Miss that place terribly in the winter.
Druidika - not a whole lot really, for two reasons. First, the vast majority of the work associated with the data flows to and from the server's SQL tables involve content from threads, not the user table. Second, there are only about a dozen data items that come with each user whenever a retrieval query runs - user # (yours is 17168 - hover over your name and view the hyperlink to see it), user name, mini-sig, avatar location, join date, location, postcount, banner/sig (and there aren't really a whole lot of those), and the various symbols representing MSMessenger, ICQ, Yahoo!, etc. Of these, the biggest is the avatar or the sig, but I think the former is stored externally to the database anyway and so doesn't impact performance.

You might get some small savings if the overall user table is now so small that it can stay 100% resident in memory, but that's still small potatoes compared to the thread content data exchange requirements, and seek-time is minimal because it's keyed on user number.

I turned off all the avatars and sigs and stuff and put on the minimal skin, hopefully other people will help conserve bandwidth.

Ive found on quite a few forums, emails dont actually arrive when you register for various reasons, if 5% of the total registered users failed to start their accounts I would consider checking the mail server for problems.

The mail server is fine, I use it on a daily basis. A few email providers appear to be paranoid though and put relicnews.com on their spam lists, so the activation e-mail gets moved into some anti-spam folder and gets lost amidst all the viagra ads.

It's more a case of if you don't log in. That's all you have to do.

I also don't think that the deletion is automatic or as regular as the rules say, hence the existance of this thread.
