Good tool, use this with mod tools and you can get all music and sound files in wav and listen 'em all you want. Fantastic!

the AIFC plugin will not work since the FDA format uses some sort of in house codec or something of that nature. Only to get the music is to run it through the audio editor tool then record it with some music editing software.
One sorry but I don't trust random links. Host it on DoW files if you really want. And windows comes with a sound recorder application anyways.
On a side note, anyone else have no luck with the mod tools audio editor at all? Followed the RDN tuts and it still won't show anything.
You can all rest easy, I took the risk and downloaded the file, no BS its the real deal.
Everything converts well and now I can actually listen to the sound files for DOW and WA... good stuff, the instructions could be a bit better though.![]()
I cannot get it to work, I am missing something. Can someone please give a more in depth step by step set of instructions?
Detailed instructions.
FDA files from Homeworld II can be played using Winamp (with Relic In_AIFx plugin). Just rename those files extenitions to .aif or .aifc or .aifr. You can also convert them to WAV using dec.exe (see "\tools\bin\" folder in Homeworld II sources, or in archive with my program). FDA files from W40k: DoW are different from those from Homeworld II, but the audio format is the same. So I wrote console utility to convert DoW FDA files to Homeworld II FDAs.
First you need to convert DoW FDA files using command "fda2aifc.exe filename.fda" or "fda2aifc.exe *.fda". This will create files with .aifc extenition. You can already play them with Winamp.
Now you can decode AIFC files to WAVs: "dec.exe filename.aifc filename.wav" Or, if you need to convert many files in one instance use "decShell.exe *.aifc". decShell.exe is a console shell for dec.exe, and it supports filename masks.
P.S.: Those progs aren't trojans or viruses of any kind.
P.P.S.: Delphi sources are included.

I think I missed the link, where can you download them?

I've turned the link in the first post into a real link, which Tommy couldn't do because it was his first post![]()

I see. Sounds like a nifty little plugin, this might be the answer to all those "I want the game music" prayers.

Hmmm, this would be appropriate content for the Adeptus Modificatus boards, you know that jTommy?
You know, it'd be great if you could update the RDN Wiki if this works, it'd be a lot more reliable then getting the sounds from the Audio Editor. I'd be a great help if you can provide some info for those wiki pages
Of course, heaven knows how Relic get by, I bet they have thier own "advanced" tools for this. Glad someone has made something though.

I think there is a program that can convert .wav into .mp3.
Edit: Using lame you can encode .mp3 files with those .wav files.
What happens in Greenville, SC stays in Greenville, SC.
This method does indeed work. I was using a similar program I found over on the moviecodec.com forums:
http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/480p2.html
The one at the bottom of that post converts FDR into AIFR, so it probably does a similar thing. I found that a while ago and was going to post some sort of guide to convert, but this package works even better because it includes a way to convert directly to WAV with no special steps. Either way, the music is very good!
I could still probably make a step-by-step guide from start to finish, since there are still a few steps to get from the game files to here hehe.

Tell me about it. I was going to do a guide for the layman but if you want to, vector, I will let you.
Just about done with it. Might as well break in this name on the forums using that. I will put it up in the DoW mod forum, since you have to manipulate alot of game files.

The Problem is still there...
I try to convert the speeches so I can listen to them...
But there is something missing...
Should be:
I command in the name of the empire!
Is:
I comm..
why?
And now the second problem just happened.
The convert program don’t work anymore. :gonemad:
To Finaldeath:
OK. I will make detailed specs of FDA format. AIFC specs can be found on the Inet so I will write only those changes that Relic made and post it in this thread. I've already posted instructions on how to use programs. The GUI can be added but is it so necessary?
To Cold Evil:
About the first problem: this was a bug in my prog. Now it's fixed.
Ok, now to the second of my problems
The convert programs (fda2aifc.exe, dec.exe, decShell.exe, enc.exe, encShell.exe) don’t work anymore :gonemad:
They work yesterday... but not now...

I didn't ask for a GUI though...the Audio Editor is Relics tool for burning and modifying FDA files, although you can only play them back in it.
Where are these FDA files found? I can only find SGA in DOW.
Read this guide: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=76681
Great work.![]()
