It's always a shock to hear about board members dying, especially such prominent ones. I'll miss him.
Dammit, not again!
Sadly he is dead. Even more sadly I didn't know him much. I can say that he is one of the few people I ever argued with, it didn't even occur to me to try with him. He was just ... that great guy over there. You know?
Well, I missed my chance to get to know him, but I won't miss my chance to say goodbye. I hope you enjoyed your life as much as we enjoyed having you around. In honour of Murph, I will do something I haven't done in a long long time.

It takes a lot of argument
to convince most people
that they are lying.
Its so sad when the young die
I had fun with him
I hope he gets a room with a computer up there
my condolences to all who knew him, and to those who were denied the opportunity of knowing him.

Damn this is bad... I only talked to him a few times on IRC..
RIP Murph, you'll be sorely missed

Fitzie, please do, and include his two sisters as addressees (their names are in the linked article). Perhaps if they could understand how many "virtual friends" he had here, it might provide them with some small comfort.

Who the hell thought "erectus" was a good species name for our ancestors?
Wow,so sadHe really helped me out on my first day here, but apart from that, I never really spoke to the guy, but at least I can say goodbye. R.I.P Murph.

Rest in peace Merf, you will be remembered.

Murph...hard to believe he's gone. He was like halfway between a regular and a lurker, always showing up at unexpected moments and blowing the forums out of the water for a little while before disappearing to god-knows-where for like a month before resurfacing again. Like that whole 'Matrix Retarded' deal which accumulated into this...
...which I unfortunately do not have a full sized copy of. It's going to feel real wierd without his antics spicing things up now and again.
RIP mate: the Relic Boards is worse off without you.
#62
I never really talked to him but i was a witness of his funny postings.
It's always hard to hear about young people dying.
The ones who loved him should be he ones we comfort.
I hope his relatives see this thread.

Ouch. Von Merf of BERF, you will be missed my friend.
I've known murph for years; I helped him build his first website and we shared many good laughs together. Truly a microcosm of legend in his own right.
See you later, dolt.
#64
This is a sad day. Rest in Peace merfles, I'll miss you.

Rest in peace Murph, you'll be missed. You certainly made an impression on everybody, and your sense of humour was one of a kind.
Godspeed to wherever you are now.
Holy shit... Didn't see this one coming
Murph was a great guy... I suck at saying stuff like this... so I'll just say that he was awesome, and he will be remembered.
#67
merf was awesome.

Been sitting for 20 minutes starring at a blank reply box.
It's not fair. How can someone with so much life in him die so young?
Easily the best sense of humour in the community. An awesome person and a great friend. My thoughts go out to his family.
This got a tear out of me. He'd be calling me a fag and telling me to shut the fuck up right about now.
I'll miss you, dolt; we all will. Farewell.

Well.. i'm pretty much at loss of words. As always when friends die... words really don't convey things for me.
I couldn't help but feel John Cleese said it best:
"Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard, i hope he fries! And the reason i feel i should say this is he would never forgive me if i didn't, if i threw away this glorious oppurtunity to shock you all on his behalf. Anything for him but mindless good taste!"
That's from the eulogy for Graham Chapman but i think it can be applied Murph's case as well. I always enjoyed talking to him on IRC because you knew the conversation would break down into name calling of the most imaginative kind just like it should among friends.

You were my good friend, and I'll miss you.
Respects.
One of a kind who brought a truly unique aspect to these boards.
Au revoir Murph.
#74
Fuck.
If anyone has the pics of me and murph pretending to be ninjas with the HW2 boxes...
I haven't been at so much of a loss for words in a long time. How the hell do you express loss?
#75
oh gawd..
What a great guy with a great soul. We'll all miss you murphlez.

RIP, m8!
I will miss you, brother Space Lord...![]()

I am speechless. Last time I chatted with Murph, he was off to tech school and getting to meet new people and doing a lot of growing up from what I could tell. I just can't believe he is gone.
#78
Dammit, once I realised he was exactly my age this has become even more unbelievable....
#79
Murph was around this community for yonks...always had something funny to say.A cracking sense of humour he had and we always had a right laugh on IRC when he was around.
Murphles mate,you'll be missed.

Dan's linking of that image of the bald murph reminds me of when I had my head shaved and we were the bald boys of #homeworld.
I woke up at 3am last night and had a chat with my wife about him. She knew his name because I'd told her about him passing on some ASL signs during our course.
I've been lurking on this board for a long time & he has always been hear. I can't say i know him well but he was a rather proment member of the boards & a decent guy. I really don't know what to say other then Gods speed my friend & may you find peace.
We will miss you.

Murph... murph... wasnt he the guy with the custom title 'There is no sound'?
Damn... Not that I ever knew that guy that much... made a few posts in the same threads as him... anyways... RIP.
Very sad news, really liked that guy, rest in peace buddy.

I never spoke to Murph, but I will still have a moment of silence. God bless you Murph, I did not have the honor of knowing you.
#88
a couple of my favorite memories of murph besides the regular, everyday joking around friendly banter
since murph was deaf, when he was using phone, they have interpeters that have to type everythign i say, and say everything that murph typed or said to me. man, we had some serious fun with that. like. i pee'd my pants irl almost. i didn't know there was such a job as an interpeters. and they like, HAVE to say everything you say or type, cus it's their job. that was so funny.
then this thread: http://www.eve-evol.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2510
you can't see it now cus the links are dead, and i may try to find the pics later from my hd at home, but there was a pic of me on murphs lap. photoshopped pretty damn well. and i had a face, and murph had a face. and it looked pretty funny ;[
then i made a pic of naked skydivers with some people's faces, obviously including murphs. and it was funny too.
it was always like that with murph. i can honestly say he was one of the few people that have only ever made me laugh and have a better time.
fitz - punkz is going to try and get his family's mailing address info this morning if you haven't already.

Don't know what to say. Right now, I can't really believe it - I keep expecting him to join #hw and say something like "Haha, tricked you, fuckers!"
Murph was a great friend, and I'm going to miss him like hell. Rest in peace, comrade.

Ahhh fuck! Murph was one of the first people to greet me when I first joined the forums. Dammit, he was a good guy. He will be missed.
Rest In Peace, Murph.

I didn't know him but i've definatly seen him around and knew he had an impact on this community. He will be missed. Maybe Relic should put a character named Murph as a cameo in a game like The Outfit. A Soldier who had a shell go off close to him which damaged his hearing. Says a few lines of dialogue in a cutscene (tells player about enemy fortifications ahead) and then leaves with a "See ya dolts!"
RIP Murph.

A Murph easter egg in a future Relic game would rule.
Used to be it would rule because Murph was awesome.
Now it would rule because he needs some tribute.
I didn“t know him, but many people say that he was the most funny moderator here
