I just though everyone would like to see the New Company of Heroes (being developed my Relic) Q&A on Gamespot. Looks pretty sweet.

Though there are rumours that DoW2 might use the CoH engine.

(The new gameplay video is awesome!)

hum.. Yeah it has nice graphics, the cover thing soudns nice. Hwoever in the movies they seemed pretty dumb. People don't duck after they fire to reload, then shoot again or anything liek that. THey leave themselves so exposed unlike how they say.

But yeah it looks nice, I hope it has agood variety of units and stuff and is actually tactical.

I just can't wait for it to be out so they can be working on DoW2.. lol

Tranj has been dropping hints about things that will get the DoW community "very excited" for months, methinks they are already working on DoW2 (hopefully using the CoH engine...that would be very, very sweet).

Yeah I hope they're already working on it so we'll get it in 2006/2007. ^^

All I want to know is what races will be in it. >< hopefully they read the polls. >_>

Er anyways this is the CoH board :P

The Q&A was nice, shed some light on stuff. But still no details.. like nothing on how buildings will be(since i've read they said they will ahve them), and how capturing points is goign to be(just like DoW, putitng a falg on a stand, or will the places you capture be more interesting, like actually capturing locations or something else that's innovative?)
It's quinching some thirst, but making me thirst for even more that i'll have to wait for.

JJ: Again, we like to use the term "authenticity over realism." Weapons will do exactly what the player expects them to do. One of the things we don't like about current-generation real-time strategy games is that feeling of whittling down the unit health in combat. This draws the player out of the experience rather than engrossing them in the combat. So a few rifle shots will effectively take out a soldier, but will have no effect on a tank. A bazooka, on the other hand, will be able to take out a tank with a few well-placed rounds--and yes, hitting them in the rear will rid you of them quicker. Submachine guns will not be good against soldiers at long distances, but will be very effective against them close up. Balancing out all these unit roles has been a real task to ensure good solid gameplay and to still ensure we really get this feeling across. There will be no whittling in Company of Heroes!
this makes me curious.. I mean, it SOUNDS like whittling. Maybe it's chance-based instead? (rather than 10 shots to kill, 10% chance to kill per shot, something like that)

it is a bit dangerous designwise though.. people will have to be able to get adequate anti vehicle counters before vehicles come out or... zzzt.

Neat concept art at the start of the video. ath the gameplay RAWKS.

People dont even need dedicated Anti Vehicle weaponry - if you dont have bazookas, manouver your infantry to the tank and use satchels or a grenade into the hatch.

Having played Close Combat, things tend not to be that easy. Tanks don't like being wandered up to.

I think regarding the lack of "whittling", what they're probably doing is just having high damage, low hp units (think say Raven Shield but an RTS), but having large penalties to hit from cover and so forth. Hence one hit kill, but actually getting said hit is the hard part.

Let's Play Master of Magic: Abandoned
In the beginning there was nothing. Then Steam crashed.

I wasnt impressed with the gameplay video at all, it seems more squad oriented than army oriented.

If you read the thingy, it tells you it is squad based.

    I agree Ax3.
This game will be great if thay stick to 2 sides on multy player. After DoW and there atempts balence the game.. maby thay might handle the balence if only 2 sides are the equation. I also agree this has to be a fun game and not a historically accrete. JUST BALENCE IT ! and ill probaly play this game for a cuple of years like i did with DoW. = beta tester and have just now quit.
