Impossible Modifications

    Impossible Modifications

    I've been trying to think of different ways of playing IC, change the gameplay. I mean instead of just creating armies and destroying your opponents base. Here are some ideas I came up with:

    • Chess - or any board game, checkers, etc
    • Cold War - No actual fighting, just build as many creatures as possible
    • Genetic Hunt - Take Rex out on a DNA hunt with a tranquilizer gun, whoever has the most DNA at the end wins?
    • Tag - Person who is "it" is a tiger and others are little lemmings or something to that effect
    • IC Paint Ball - Anyone played that StarCraft map?
    • King Of The Hill - Try to fend off other players who want control of your mountain.


    Anything else you guys can think of? I think it would be pretty cool to actually make one of these.

    Hm. Tempted to soak up all of these ideas, but I know I have to be gracious for other modders. Tag intruiges me, tell me more. How would one win? (Besides the obvious)

    capture the flag would work as well, much like battle field 1942

    pop limit of say 10-20

    per player,

    only animals can hunt for flag hench men are used for resource gathering,

    I would think this would be a "simple" /* like that exists */ mod to the Hunt for rex game

    Could tag work by whoever ends up with the least time as "it" wins? You could always just play it like it's played in real life; who says anyone has to win?

    One of the mods that Fox, Quinn and I did at ICU was a "capture the flag" type mod. We did it completely with triggers.

    We even had a flag that changed colour

    Actually it wasnt capture the flag.....it was a POC type game play / (for anyone who has ever played Shattered Galaxy), similar to King of the Hill.

    One of these days when I get some time I'll recreate the POC scripts and put em up for you to look at / modify.

    I like the genetic hunt idea. Trying to capture as much DNA as possible in the time limit. Perhaps put a twist on that and once you capture the DNA you can build it at your creature creator. So now your Rex has to be escorted to protect him from the enemies creatures.

    Or you have so many minutes to capture DNA on a random map, then you have X coal and X electricity to build 3 creatures that then fight the opponents 3 creatures in an arena setting.

    I tried to design a map with a similar to what wulfgyr described, and I'm sorry to say it can't be done. You cannot enable the army builder in a muliplayer map. (You can set a trigger to do so, but it will not work) Which is a real shame because it would have turned out quite well. I may still do the Genetic hunt idea, but it lacks the sizzle of the collect and build one.

    Another problem: Rex will not shoot the neuro toxin in a multiplayr game, so it would have to be a "get with X meters of animal" type thing.

    Also, stock creatures will only show up in multiplayer scenarios if you set them to be controlled by a player (including computer), though you can do this and then set them to wander randomly, so it would only be a matter of making sure to always include a computer oppenent when playing the map, as well as fixed started locations.

    I read about the input of Rex in multiplayer. This has a problem though as you can`t pause a game while making creatures. I think they couldvè changed that so the game plays on but it takes a shitload out of your hardware. that`s also why alt-tabbing a multiplayer game is ont recommendable. Lets keep this thread topic within the limits peeps cuz it intriges me none the less.

    As long as you`re summoning the various other game modes: how about a 'six gods' kinda thing? You start with a rat or something and end with a mammoth thing if you`re lucky enough to survive ;o)
    A killing spree map like the ones in starcraft are cool too (the ones in which you have to build towers or just use units with other players to vent of various creatures who're trying to make it to some point where you`ve been placed int eh game and then run to get out again. Some might know it was the Maze game. Started in Age of Empires: Whoever kills less then the set amouth of creatures in 1 round per level of 1 kind of creature loses and gets thrown out of the multiplayer game. The levels go from 1 to 10 and creatures get stronger and different with each level though it`s 1 level and 1 type of creature at the same time in every round). The problem lies in the incapability of the AI though. You could make it probably if the game edditor is good enough (have not checked it out yet) and this should be more interesting then in Starcraft / Warcraft II & III or ADC (Another Damned Craft) as you can have digging posion etc. creatures aswell as the flying kinds. (personally tho i don`t think the comps AI is that great. Just give it advanced ability creatures and see for yourself how easy it is to defeat the comp. He mainly looks for the cheapest, fastest {to produce} or stongest creature instead of using real tactics)

    Every second you get a new unit and must destroy other players' towers while protecting your own........

    I really like the DNA collect idea.. even if it was just for the hunt... but there's no hope?

    Well, here's no hope for the way I wanted to do it anyway. There is no way (as far as I can find) to allow the army builder to be accessed in a multiplayer game. Even for just the DNA hunt, since Rex cannot shoot in multiplayer, the only way to do this would be to have it activate when you get within x meters of the animal. It would also take A LOT of coding (a complicated trigger for each player for each anoimal0 to get this map to work. I was willign to do this when I thought you could them use the creatures to fight, but it doesn't seem worth it now.

    Anyone play Golem Madness type games in Starcraft? The idea would work interestingly here in IC. In golem madness you got a 'civilian' every certain amount of kills, when you had a certain number of civilians, you could put them in different combinations on beacons and get different hero units. So in IC each 'beacon' would be an attribute or animal type maybe?
