    Battlestar Galactica

    Hey guys. First post here. I have decided that I will take it apon myself to make the Galactica mod (new age galactica). I have been looking for one for quite some time and havent tracked any down.

    I work in 3ds max 8, I hear that you can only port from Maya though, so I will need a texture artist in maya that can help, as well as a coder. Some of the ship stats that I plan on are:


    COLONAL FLEET:


    Galactica (Carrier)

    Info: The Battlestar Galactica is an old war relic of the first Cylon War. She's still very battle ready, but a little lacking on the Offensive side. What she lacks in Offensive weapons, she more than makes up in speed and fighter support.
    Special Functions: Immune to all forms of Cylon EW

    5,000,000 hp
    12x 350mm Railguns (capitol ship artillary)
    92x 30mm high cyclit rate guns (anti fighter/missile guns)
    18x ACM Launchers (anti cap missiles)
    40x AFM Launchers (anti fighter missiles)
    Jump Drive (requires resorces like all jump drives)
    Sensor Clusters - 110km range
    Build options:

    • Viper mkII - 500


    • Anti Capitol Sentry Launcher - 5x ACM - 1500

    • Anti Fighter Sentry Launcher - 10x AFM - 700

    • Anti Missile Sentry Gun - 10x 30mm HCG - 900


    Pegasus (Carrier)

    Info: The Battlestar Pegasus is a bleeding edge War Machine, boasting a large cache of weapons and advanced sensors, she can take almost anything that comes at her.
    Special Weapons: Nuclear Missiles
    Special Abilities: Building the Second Generation Viper MkVII

    6,400,000 hp
    14x 350mm Railguns (capitol ship artillary)
    95x 30mm high cyclit rate guns (anti fighter/missile guns)
    20x ACM Launchers (anti cap missiles)
    45x AFM Launchers (anti fighter missiles)
    2x ACNM Launchers (anti Capitol Nuclear Missiles)
    Jump Drive (requires resorces like all jump drives)
    Sensor Clusters - 175km range
    Build options:

    • Viper mkII - 400

    • Viper mkVII - 900


    • Anti Capitol Sentry Launcher - 5x ACM - 1500

    CYLON FLEET:


    Base Star (Carrier)

    Info: The Mighty Base Star, Boasting a massive array of weapons for fleet combat can hold off a Battlestar in a 1 on 1 battle.

    33x ACM Launchers (anti cap missiles)
    45x AFM Launchers (anti fighter missiles)
    5x ACNM Launchers (anti Capitol Nuclear Missiles)
    Jump Drive (requires resorces like all jump drives)
    Sensor Clusters - 21km range
    Build options:

    • Raider MkI - 500

    • Raider MkII - 900 - Bomber

    • Raider MkIII - 950 - Adv. Bomber



    I'll write up the states for the Viper Class and the Raider class a bit later.

    If you have any models that can be used, feel free to post them! I also need a coder, since I've not familer with the Homeworld 2 code, unlike 1. Thanks, I hope to hear from you guys!

    I guess you didn't quite look hard enough...
    Here's one.

    They even have WIP releases of both Galacticas already.

    That said, I think your ships are quite well defined, and would certainly be better than what they have already. You should probably contact them.

    Your HP estimates, IMO, are right on the money, with the Pegasus a little tougher than a Basestar.

    THAT said, a few notes.

    I agree on the building thing, I mainly did this because in the Galactica Universe, you dont have places to build those. So like in Homeworld 1 & 2, the Battlestars are like Motherships/Carriers. I'll look into that mod, thank you - maybe I can get permission to use their models to get the mod off the ground

    Or you could join their mod, whichever way works best...

    On the construction issue, and I mean no offense(to anyone) when I say this, but you, along with many other modders seem to not realize that, yes, HW has a specific game model, but you don't have to follow it. Half of the tension and drama in BSG is the fact that what they have is all they're going to get-every viper and every pilot that they lose is one less they'll have in the next battle.

    Of course, you do have to make room for the fun factor, which usually trumps realism...It would probably just end up as an option in the gamemode that would let people choose whether or not to allow construction.

    Well said. I could always make a large station similer to that one seen in the Second Pilot Episode and have it build things like that I think I will.

    That's probably a good compromise there...After all, Vipers probably aren't built by hand! No doubt somewhere there would be an assembly line. The cylons probaby would have destroyed every one they found, but they might not find all of them.

    Yep, well my story line is kind of like this (single player)

    Follows from the mini series up to where it is now, including voice overs

    You see a video of the planet going to hell, the galactica escaping, taking a little damage in the process, then you also have the mission where the galactica keeps getting pounded (several missions) by the cylons, each time it jumps, a new cylon fleet finds it after a certain amount of times (lets say 10mins) during that time you have to mine, keep an eye out, etc, get some credits to build stuff later.

    After that you follow the story line (obviously I cant keep it perfectly canon) and find the station, where you can reload, and such. Later on you find the station that can build the vipers. Before that however you do meet up with the Pegasus, and that ship is added to the fleet to help you along later. You do in a few missions after that battle the cylon fleet including the resurrection ship. Where it goes after that, I dont know, I'll make missions as the story progresses.

    However most of this mod is for player v ai and multiplayer.

    Info: The Battlestar Orion is an ancient design, but still in use as a support Destroyer.
    Special Functions: Immune to all forms of Cylon EW

    This model was originaly made by Brian Larsen Toft for his Galactica Re-imagened, he gave this model to me, I've cleaned it up alot and connected everything correctly for use. It was 1700 polys, it's now 746 polys, this is the distance LOD model, I'll add flight decks for the closeup model.

    Flat as it is, it appears vastly superior to the uninspiring 'new galactica' the new series is championing.

    This 'destroyer' looks as if she's heavy and can take a beating. looking forward to seeing it done.

    Yeah, looks bloody good, even though it's the distance LOD. Should look awesome when the appropriate details are added, even better than the Star-Destroyer knock-off it's based off.

    Honestly, Norsehound, do you have to bring your anti-reimagined BSG rhetoric to every Battlestar thread on this forum?

    Until I see someone else championing an impressive starship over a ribbed condom for a battlestar, then yes I suppose. :P

    But honestly? If done right this ship could surpass the origional BSG into what the reimagined ship should have been.

    @ Norsehound : I too much prefer the Battlestar and Baseship of the original series. Just my 2c.

    I do like the Destroyer concept posted here. I think it does have the potential to be even better than the original once detailing and texturing is done.
