Good point about my list of weapons, General Nuke Em. I don't think I'm lacking in the anti-infantry department, though. I still have plenty of multi-lasers.

I have stopped doing calculations along the lines of "doing something" to vehicles. I now tend to base them on destroying the vehicle as this takes into account the difference in severity of glancing and penetrating hits. It's not perfect but it gives a good indication.

You are right about the battlecannon being less likely to hit a small vehicle. However, there is still a chance of glancing AV10 with the halved strength. This won't make up for the reduction in accuracy but it is at least some compensation.

It seems that your list has similar problems to a traditional static force in terms of capturing objectives. The transports do help to make up for some of this but at a cost of anti-tank and (depending on speed) anti-infantry shots.

In terms of firepower, I like it. You anti-infantry is mobile which makes it hard for the enemy to hide. However, I can't help but think you have gone a bit overboard on the anti-tank. I would recommend swapping a couple of those lascannons for missile launchers and/or autocannons. Lascannons are wasted on light tanks and S<=6 is not effective enough.

Of course, what I really recommend is to drop some of the big weapons entirely and line up into neat ranks.

In my guard army, I have chosen a deamonhunters command retinue (grand master w/ 4 grey knight termys) many a time has this squad countered asaults and saved my guns. Termys are tough to kill, and the force weapons are nice autokillers. Their main purpose is to stop the rush, and hopefuly hold off the enemy for 2/3 turns while I pound away my enemy. I have tried feeding the guard to my enemys slowly to stop the assault, but so many times I find my squads being devoured and the enemy consolidating into me. grey knights are much tougher, and will usually weaken the enemy assault squad. Bear in mind im not a hardcore gamer and will likely replace the retinue when I have a substitute.

of course there's that problem of a GKGM and Retinue being very extremely expensive...

And also, I run a vindicare assassin, which has been a valuable asset. Even though the point cost is high, it has killed many wratihlords, commanders, and other CC units that would devastate my ranks.

Keep your squad second squad over 6" away from the first one to be absolutely sure they don't get caught by any sweeping advances.

Bignorm, you cannot include both a GKGM and a vindicare in the same Guard army because of the nifty little rule requiring an inquisitor or inquisitor lord to field an assassin. Since you can only have have 1 HQ and 1 elite choice from a DH army allied to your Guard army, your list is illegal. Please don't post pointless drivel in a serious discussion.

Cfoley, sometimes I do take autocannons; that list is just an example.

Pentinent - we have often said that autocannons are an inferior choice because the types of targets that they are good against (AV10-12) aren't as prevalent as the types of targets that lascannons and heavy bolters are superior at killing. They are not useless; they fulfill a niche that is not as prevalent or as threatening as it used to be. Fish of Fury and tornado speeders are not nearly as dangerous as the rhino rush.

Thats a simple deployment issue. If I may quote one of my favorites, GSgt Hartman, your senior drill instructor.

This refers to the popular mechanized Tau tactic of taking a bunch of Devilfishes bursting at the seams with Fire Warriors, plunking them down in front of the enemy army and disembarking the FWs, who then proceed to unload a hail of Pulse Rifle shots while they enjoy the immunity to charges because of the Devilfish in front of them.

Apparently he gave up 13 days ago. He doesn't have as much staying power as everyone else who gave up 9 days ago.
