    [P&M] Combat Patrol, voting thead! Winner Declared!

    So, it took a while to get this up, and for that I apologise. At present only 3 people have sent their army pictures to BA, so please check back regularly to see if there have been any updates (I'll edit the topic to include such information if that is the case).

    For those that have finished, but haven't sent in pictures (somewhat due to the obscure reference in the submissions thread), here's a copy of the details Brother Armand (who is very kindly doing the hosting) laid out in the Submissions thread.

    PM me or send pix to MaverickMechJock@gmail.com. If the pix need to be revised, I will contact you. DON'T FORGET TO SEND YOUR RELIC USERNAME!

    Armies must be submitted to me preferably by March 14 but NO LATER THAN 0700 GMT on March 17th. That will have given you 16 extra days past contest deadline to submit the photos. If you don't have them to me by 0700 GMT March 17th, (that's midnight my time, March 16th)

    You can review the current submissions here;
    http://www.lunar-wolves.com/gw/RelicContests/
    Shamelessly lifted from the submissions thread, here's a word for word copy of cfoleys rather well written rules of voting.

    Voting Procedure

    Voters fill in a profile for each entry. The rules are as follows:

    • You must fill in a card for each entrant.
    • You must vote in every category.
    • Your votes must be a whole number. No half marks.
    • Your votes must be within the specified ranges. Giving 11/10 may be a nice gesture but it is very unhelpful and will result in your high opinion not being counted at all.
    • If you entered the competition then you must vote. However, you cannot fill in a card for yourself. If for some reason you don't do this then votes from other entrants won't be added to your score.

    If you break any of these rules then your vote cannot be counted until it is fixed.

    The cards take the form:

    Painting [1-10]
    How well the army is painted and looks overall.

    Theme[1-5]
    This includes "fluffiness" and "compliance" with the representative universe, but also how well your figures and unit choices live up to the unified concept.

    Individuality [1-5]
    How well the individual groupings, figures, and concept has been converted or "personalized," while still fitting within a unified army theme.

    Centrepiece [1-5]
    The main representative figure of the army, whether it be the commander, transport, hero, etc. - conversion, freehand painting, or "superiority over the rank-and-file" is key.

    I would say that a score of 1 should be TT standard since I expect everyone to produce a TT army. 10 should be Golden Daemon winning standard. I think that 7 should be treated as full marks with 8, 9 and 10 being for things that are above and beyond the call of duty.

    In the scale of 1-5: 1 = TT standard; 3 = full marks; 4,5 = above and beyond.
    Voting will run for 7 days from now, so the cutoff time to get your vote in will be 01:00 GMT on the 19th of March.

    Now get voting!

    Is this going to be a secret ballot, or we just going to submit our scorecards as replies to this thread?
    If it is a secret ballot, who should they be submitted to? I assume whoever it is will also be landed with the job of adding the votes up and averaging the result.

    Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

    It'll be done as responses to the thread. Anything else would just be pm hell for some unlucky person :P

    I'll probably be the one doing the adding up at the end

    Incidentally, I forgot to add that if anyone wants to pm me a few lines of blurb (why you chose the units you did, colourscheme etc) on their completed entries I'll edit it into the main post.

    Allow me to point out, if the voting ends 0100 GMT on March 19, you had better get those photos in! I would suggest, so long as Ap0k agrees, that armies must be submitted to me preferably by March 14 but NO LATER THAN 0700 GMT on March 17th. That will have given you 16 extra days past contest deadline to submit the photos. If you don't have them to me by 0700 GMT March 17th, (that's midnight my time, March 16th), I can't guarantee I will get them up in time for judging.

    Alot of people did. I think the current estimate is that over 1/3 of the participants failed to complete their project, (myself included). But I'm hoping even the unfinished will send their latest pix along too. I'm planning to show off my conversion work, even though I don't even have anything painted.

    In all cases, I tried to guage the overall quality of paintjob across the army, rather than looking at individual models. Painting twice as many models half as good should (in my view) equal the same value. Painting a horde of models reasonably well I consider equal to painting a few models very well.

    With the theme, I tried to imagine what the chances were of seeing those models out on patrol. Questions like 'would so and so spend the time to go patrolling? Does unit X do that kind of thing, or are they considered to valuable to the front line to send off on little skirmishes?' and things like that.

    Individuality was based a lot on what sorts of conversions/interesting paintjobs showed up, basically the little touches that showed a squad did actually represent individuals, and that time had been put into their 'creation'.

    Centrepiece is fairly self explanatory. I was mostly just looking to see how well they tied into the rest of the force, quality of paintjob and to see if any neat little conversions/bits were added.

    Everything is brilliantly painted, and there is a strong unifying theme, I did feel that nothing really popped out brilliantly at you. The HQ unit didn't really seem to be hugely different from the rank and file. The bases are all nicely done, and the sergeants pose is pulled off well.

    A good entry, the carapace kinf of makes the rest of the painting look rushed, but provides a brilliant unifying theme to your army. I didn't really see any conversions, but with 'nids I wouldn't know what to look for, the bases are also kind of simple. The centerpeice is bigger, and has a rock on it's base, but thats about all the pulls it away from the rest.

    An amazing submission, the painting is top notch, everything from the red details on the tanks, and the snow camoflauge. The snow bases and blue colour really tie this army together beautifully, the snow bases also lend to individuality. The centrepeice is great, choice of model and the drone conversion as well as posing on a rock clearly define it as the head of the patrol.

    Great patrol. The painting is pretty good. The theme of admech is carried through by models, colours, and basing quite wonderfully. A skitarii army, a lot of conversions in what I saw, and a lot of unique figures. The centrepeice stands out well from the rest of the army.

    Thats my vote.

    I'm as guilty a cuplrit as anyone else for not finishing, but I'm still dismayed that only 4 people posted results. Very sad... Anyway, on with my voting post;
    Zarathustrian;
    Painting [7]
    The army as a whole is painted to a very strong standard. Attention to detail is very evident, from the goggles, armor highlights and fatigues shading. Very strong indeed.

    Theme[3]
    Straight foward DH/=][= theme. Psycannons on the GK's, PG's on the IST's, big bad Inquisitor, (albeit the WH one. *grin*). Nothing to take away from, but nothing to leap out and take advantage of either.

    Individuality [4]
    Even though the bodies are all readily availble plastics, the mix & match of HW kneeling legs with other bits and esp. the face masks add a fantastic touch to the IST's.

    Centrepiece [3]
    The inquisitor is excellent, really impressive, (this is one of my favorite models ever produced by GW). The converted psycannon is particularly sweet and the paintjob is excellent. It just doesn't seem to have that certain something to push it over the top.

    Total: 17pts
    juckto;
    Painting [4]
    The army is painted to a decent standard, but not stellar. Majority of the unit appears a basic drybrush over dark undercoat. Details are decent and the carapace coloring is interesting, but again not stellar.

    Theme[2]
    I hate to seem mean about this, but when I think patrol and combine it with 'Nids, I think 2 things; Genestealers and Lictors. Neither are represented here. This seems more like a raiding party. I applaud the composition, but it doesn't seem very patrol-like. Esp using the /without number' rules. I can't award alot to this category.

    Individuality [3]
    It's tough to award either way on individuality with Nids unless there is a stellar converions on the table. Still, the bugs looks good and carry some individual definition in thei poses.

    Centrepiece [2]
    The lead bugs look pretty good, but they don't really jump either. Still, better than my 'not even undercoated' centerpiece.

    Total: 11pts
    Ap0k;
    Painting [9]
    Just amazing. I can tell it's not up to Ap0k's usual standards, (minor differences we know he did for speed over quality), but his speed painting blows away many other people's high calibre jobs. The snow bases, the 2-tone blue/grey paint, the extremem highlighting. All add up to an amazing work. I would be honoured to have my ass handed to me by this partol.

    Theme[4]
    The theme seems very strong. Pathfinders, Stealths, Kroot. All the halmarks of an advance force designated for Recon work. Being led by an XV8 adds an interesting touch as well.

    Individuality [2]
    Most of the models are box stock, but the commander makes up for it to a decent extent. Still, since he is the only genuinely individual aspect of the force, his points are better served in the Centerpiece category.

    Centrepiece [5]
    What can I say other than this;
    :jaw:
    I mean, holy freaking crap! I'm still mesmerized by this guy. I keep trying to find flaws or lines or something I can use to pick it apart and I just flat out cannot. This guy alone makes me want to model up some Tau Crisis Commanders. Unbelievable.

    Total: 20pts
    $mAlLe34;
    Painting [7]
    Seems pretty solid, although I wish the army photo was better and showed more detail overall. The detail shots, assuming they are carried over throughout the force, show some decent control and technique for highlighting the red and shading the grey fatigues.

    Theme[3]
    Not knowing enough about AdMech, I cannot really speak to the theme very well, but I can see the direction here. The use of servitors for HW crews and such come through loud & clear.

    Individuality [3]
    The GS work on many of these guys, while simplistic, is still well done and adds a touch to je ne said quoi to the whole thing.

    Centrepiece [3]
    The use of a Crusader as the officer is a nice touch, but could've used some conversion work to drop all the =][= iconography in favor of AdMech instead. Still, he's painted well and I think it looks solid.

    Total: 16pts

    I have a caveat on this entry however. The army lists doesn't mention a Chimera anywhere and one squad is illegal, sporting a Heavy Bolter AND Lascannon. {EDIT: He has since removed the Lascannon ref from his army list} There are 30 models + Chimera in this picture, but only 25 accounted for in the list. {EDIT: He has clarified the list to include all models} If there is an updated list somewhere, I'd like to know about it. So, I'll score him 16, but give him a -5 hit on Army Composition/Illegal List until we get some clarification on what's really going on here. {EDIT: His new army pix aren't the best, but the new detail shot is really good. I took away any negative modifiers.}
    I hope I'll have a couple more to judge before Friday.

    He edited his army list to exclude it. It was in the list originally, I edited my post.

    THe models look great, they are all painted very well, and the highlights are pulled of fantasticly. Conversion is done well, and looks effective, almost everything is done very well.

    Nice choice of colours (i know how hard yellow can be to do) and they go well with each other, but highlighting could've been done better, conversions are pretty good, and it ties in well with the force.

    A great army, the snow effect has been pulled of to great effect, highlighting is good, and models look great. Bases have been done very good to make it seem they are in a snow terrain and the commander stands out very good from the rest of the force.

    Another good army, in that i've never actually seen adeptus mechanicus been attempted before, the painting is good, with nice highlights, and bases a also quite good, conversions have been done well, and your commander is painted nicely, though some conversions could have been done.

    Just like to say to everyone who got their army in...

    Great job! I really think they are all painted to a great standard, each one something to be very proud of.

    Well, the time for voting is over (at least, until people get their edits in for $mAlLe34's entry).

    The totals, with what is available so far are (averages in brackets)
    Zarathustrian - 263 (18.785)
    Ap0k - 263 (18.785)
    $mAlLe34 - 138 (17.25) pending edits.
    juckto - 171 (12.214)

    I could have sworn Zarathustrian was ahead earlier in the week when I totted up the results, but for some reason my calculator has come up with us both having the same score just now. I'm pretty sure I got it right, but if someone could double check at some point while I sleep, that would be ace, since I'd hate to declare it a draw, when Zarathustrian could be the rightful winner.

    Regardless of the result, a hefty congratulations to all who finished. All the entries are above average army quality, and look great in the army shots.

    Once I'm awake enough to double check my calculations, I'll declare the actual winner (or draw, as the case may be), but for now, I think everyone deserves a pat on the back.

    Well done!

    Yep, thats just what I'm waiting on at the minute.

    As yet, the following people have still to update their posts.
    Captain_Plasma
    Pusherman
    matthew5276

    And thanks for the doublecheck Random Person. Due to me being more than a little tired last night, and some of the names being in a different order in the responses I figured I might have accidentally switched the points on some of the totals (since Zara isn't always the first name in the list).

    $mAlLe34, I'll give it a day or so for people to get their edits in, but since your average is taken from the people who have voted for you, rather than the total voters, you shouldn't lose out, pointswise (i.e if 15 people voted overall, but only 10 voted for you, then I'll divide your total by 10, rather than the 15 that I do for everyone else).

    Sorry for the delay folks, I was rather hoping matthew and captain plasma would update their posts.

    Anyway, the final totals are (discounting Cap'n plasma's and Matthews scorecards)
    Zara - 224 (/11 = 20.36)
    Ap0k - 219 (/11 = 19.90)
    $mAlLe34 - 184 (/11 = 16.72)
    juckto - 147 (/12 = 12.25 (he didn't fill out a scorecard, hence why the division by 12).

    In conclusion, a very big congrats to Zarathustrian for the victory. Well earned indeed

    On top of that, congratulations to everyone who finished. It was a fairly mammoth task, so you should all be proud of the achievement

    Well done all

    Now I need another beer...

    Congratulations to Zarathustrian for the best overall entry (and to everyone else who actually finished, which I can say is definitely a worthy achievement in itself!)

    Congrats Zar, well done.

    And kudos to everyone who did finish and everyone who managed to finish something, (Tin's work should be noted and I'm pleased with myself for actually getting my patrol modelled & converted for play, even if they aren't even primered yet. )

    Great job everyone.
