    Update...

Public UltraMarines forums now open --> http://forums.revora.net/index.php?showforum=1925

Mod Update -- Skullhammer has done a masterful job of documenting our build/tech tree as well as designing/finishing up all icons in the mod. We're now gonna press forward with AE coding. Both DarknessKnight and QuebecDog have seen the spreadsheet with the build/tech tree and absolutely love it. Faith, brothers..

I couldn't really find an answer to what has been done with this branchign rebranching, etc.

    But in response to this point;

    Quote Originally Posted by starfox444

Can't you take it that one stage further, in that you limit the Commanders to 2. Build your character choices, and once they're dead, keep the choices (as his tactics are still there), but you can also go back to another character, and he now locks those that are out, etc.

To make it so that people don't just buy a commander, get that one unit they want, delete the commander, and build another for the units that they also want, the Cost of the Commander to replace is the same price as usual, but as much as 2-3 times as much to change the commander.

Again, sorry if it's been answered or sorted. But hopefully, the Vanilla Marines with Vanilla sauce will be worthy of playing at long last.

Yes we're still moving. UnDirector with the help of SkullHammer and Storm913 (both are our resident fluff/codex gurus for UM) are working on the complex build/tech tree putting it ingame via an elaborate spreadsheet. Brother is working on 3d assets like Tyrannic War Vets (recently asked what default weapons and upgrades they need?). Ingame icons are done so things are moving.

With the guidance of both DarknessKnight and QD I have

Oh and a correct to the progress above:

Sound/Voices 100% of all voice scripts are written but 35% of all of those are voice recorded. We're moving fast in this regard as there are 70+ units. @_@

I know this is probably a stupid question but I know little about the ultra marines can someone explain them to me Like how are they different from other space marine factions what they stand for maybe?

I suggest reading here for quick infos and browsing the net a bit, since they're the most 'common' SM chapter and GW's shop-window for Warhammer 40,000 [insert grumbles here].

To make it short (and in no subjective terms at all ;P), the UM were the least depleted Legion after the Horus Heresy, and their Primarch, Roboute Guilliman helped maintain a cohesive Astartes force during the aftermath; he also helped ensure no SM force would ever become so strong as to threaten the Imperium again by splitting the most numerous Legio in 1000-men strong Chapters and penned the Codex Astartes, the great tome dictating all manners of organisation, tactical usages, markings, protocol, etc regarding space marines. This lead to the newly reorganised UM chapter to become the epitome of a classical Astartes organisation.
Thus, since that day, the UM strictly (some would say mindlessly) adhere to the precepts edicted by their Primarch, to the point of considering any out-of-the-box thinking as bordering heresy and deserving of the sternest retribution, killjoy starch-arses that they are...

So, in a few words, the UM are a blueprint of sorts for all post-Heresy codex SM forces.

Yep.. and they tend to be able to take from all other SM Chapters so can basically field everything SM can offer much like Black Legion for CSM. This will be reflective in the UM build the team has achieved over the last 2 years.

Sorry what? I can understand the UM team wants to cram the mod with all sorts of means of mass destruction but where have you seen that?

Note for all easy rage-leapers: i'm genuinely asking, not being UM-minded myself (haha |: ) nor fluff-naziing, whatever the daft idiotism.

hehe.. no I'm saying UM can field all hardware from other chapters but obviously not special characters from those other chapters. Further, to keep the UM project interesting, things had to be cut but yeah we still have something crazy like 6+ different LandRaiders but they are "tamed" and have restrictions to keep gameplay unchaotic. Quite the challenge. I'm also no UM codec/fluff guru but those on the project are -- thankfully.

i have noticed in recent months that this mod thread has been pulled from the mods in progress. does that mean the mod is dead? or are the dev's just taking a break? i may be posting incorrectly, but this is the only thread i could find on the subject without starting a new one...

    Not even remotely close.

    - Almost all voices are recorded. We're talking 70+ different units.
    - Code and AI is done but needs to be refined/tweaked.
    - Icons are all done. Looks so cool.

Its gonna be an insane project much like Black Templars and Craftworlds.

Trust me: many projects in good hands.

True enough but when a project seems "dead-ish" its human nature to inquiry. I would to as most DoW1 projects are incredibly cool and noone wants to see em ever discontinued. I certainly do not.

However, people can PM the dev teams for any DoW1 mod project for updates. I'm always there to answer PMs.

    - Oh don't worry: we'll canvas for UM, DA, BT, blah blah testers in the appropriate forums here. I gather we'll get a decent turn-out
    - Models will be used with permission of course when required. Don't worry: it will be covered and look mighty glorious!! UM is a somewhat crazy build/tech tree much like Craftworlds is too.

YeS I am.. But I'm more of IG than SM. But hey any new race to DC is always great :P

[edit] the FOK mod team's chapter master honour guard model is great. you guys should use it and modify it and give them the ultramarine halberds like in the fluff.

Thud, I think he means to 1) ask what the UM mod is; 2) space marines are awesome (???); 3) the DA mod hasn't yet been released (and possibly you and your modding pals are great modders); 4) but you're not the original mod team or mod 'curator', are you?
That's the best i can hazard from the broken syntax...

@Black Templer (sic!): i suggest you run your post through a decent translator to let a bit more meaning flow through this.

Modding is a fickle thing my friend. What with working with models, code AE and other aspects, not to mention RL jobs, mods can take a damn good while to finish. Patience really is a virtue.

@ fuggles: I would have posted a reply in the BA thread but given the necessary lock-up here goes: No, it's not a thing happening. The mod leads have been swallowed by the maelstrom of real life and we've not been able to patch things together again. Mind you, not so long ago i've seen that some eastern bastards have tried to pillage some of our older assets on ModDB, so you may see something pop up some day with Stevocarty's unmistakable watermark... without the original intent behind it but as one follower of theirs (also a forumite here iirc) threw at me: 'go finish your lousy wolf lords mod (sic!) and let them use it since you're too dumb to finish it', which i found sadly laughable on all points.

Conversation about the model of Dante. I mean one model.
And by the way, I receive it with no animation. And with a note that it is from a dead mod.

Hell, I haven't posted in Dow Mods for over a year, but I really must chip in here.

The people who make mods, make them entirely for their own ends: whether that be mass appreciation; glittering stardom; or because they want to see the Space Manatees rendered in glorious, eye wateringly bright colours. They do Not, I repeat, DO NOT owe YOU, the potential end user anything. Speaking for myself, I got involved in modding because I personally felt that there were aspects of the game that were lacking, or needed improvement, or I wanted to flesh out my favourite army. I'm happy to admit that the first thought on my mind was not 'oh, some random people on the internet are really going to enjoy this.' That happens to be a happy by-product, but nothing to do with my intent. My work is mine, for my own reasons, and unless I say otherwise, not yours. The very idea that you are in some way entitled to the whole or parts of a private individual's work is frankly ludicrous. What did you do to earn the right to it?

If a mod is dead, its dead for a reason, and unless the person responsible for it says otherwise, its assets belong to their creators, they do not belong to the community unless they are explicitly given to the community. To take someone else's work, reverse engineer it without permission and then use it in your own, with or without giving credit would be, if not illegal, certainly highly immoral, in any other sphere of human endeavour.

TL;DR My work is mine, not yours.

I will not derail this thread again.

  47. #447
this is the dumbest thing ever written here, seriously
you show your work for a GAME, then you say - i'm too busy to go on and walk away.
But there are people who can finish your work... yet you say - no way! it's mine! etc.

I deleted my post for after being pointed out that one sentence sounds like I meaning the public was owed. That was never my intention, though that one sentence being sectioned out changes the context of what I was getting at entirely. I will still say its a total shame on these dead mods, that their content can't or won't ever be able to be finished or used. To think of what mods we could have today if people wasn't having to redo from scratch what somebody else already starting working on. Anyways thats neither here or there and sadly something that will never be changed so I'm sorry DarknessKnight that I posted that in your mod thread and to the community this was neither the time nor place to bring this up.

Please go and look up the definition of "Intellectual Property". This concept underpins a lot of the mod assets-related debates on this forum

If you are still confused, don't post in here. PM me and I will explain in detail.

Anyhow, this derail is getting a bit out of hand. If the team aren't posting, they aren't posting for a reason. Let them be, and let them update in their own time. Also bear in mind the forum rules which explicitly state no necroing of old threads and no asking for mod updates.
