It doesn't break Multiplayer as long as you and your friends have the same Harlequin Mod installed and running. Played a round with Shin allready so MP definatly works. Only thing missing is AI and thats where Thudo comes in soon anyway. *thumbs up*

It breaks multiplayer as in if you install the mod, you can't play normal DC again, but it's pretty easy to keep a backup of the file that gets overwritten, and shin was kind enough to include one as well. It's just that since Dawn of Skirmish got around it, you'd think everyone would be able to as well.

I just played it, and it was pretty fun!

-A few things that I saw was that the jetbikes don't seem to have any real attack animation, and can't fight in close combat, although their discription says they can.

-Most buildings/voices are still Eldar, but hey, it's an alpha!

-Capture animations sometimes get a little weird, with the flag still being in their hand.

I really like some of the effects, that one above the portal where the troops are built from, right before they come out? Amazing!

I just got done playing a skirmish with this mod, and this is definitely promising! It seems remarkably complete for an alpha release. I'm not ordinarily an Eldar player, but the Harlequins are really entertaining (I guess they're supposed to be :P ). Kudos to a job well done. I look forward to your final release.

I must say, I am definately impressed. Like Neverhoodian, I rarely (never) play eldar, but these guys are really fun. Death jesters rule. So does the mocking bird's vibro cannon. By the way, how do you repair vehicles and buildings? Also, is the LP upgrade supposed to shoot? Doesnt seem to, but the upgrade says it does.

Excellent mod! The high quality of your work is really impressing. Your work is so good, if you had chosen another building except the SM one the mod could be called a final version ,not an Alpha. I made some wallpapers as a small thanks and tribute to you:

Very original. It really gives the feel of the Harlequins of old. Can't wait to see it finished.

I think Shingouki also posted an update with the new art content for DoW (or was it WA?) in his forum.

DC is the future regardless how we see it. DC can be augmented for our needs + Shin knows its what works with his plans for the unique style which are the Harlequins. Skirmish AI is nearing completion for the Harlies. Need 1 more day and its done. They are QUITE brutal!

  13. #363
I can't get this Macabre Mod to work, so what's the trick or the combination?

Do you have to uninstall the AI Skirmish Mod in order to get this Mod to work? It keeps saying that I have the AI Skirmish Mod 2.0 there on my menu screen, even though I have supposedly installed the files where I was supposed to.

And, I try to load or run Harlequin from the Game Manager, and it fails to load, with a message saying so, and I still have the AI Skirmish Mod loaded in the upper left and in the Game Manager.

Is uninstalling the AI Skirmish Mod the trick or the combination that we need in order to get around the broken Game Manager so that we can try this Harlequin Mod?

    What's the trick?

Also, a readme telling us ordinary non-coders where to install this Harlequin Mod would probably be in order. I might have it installed in the wrong place for all I know, but I don't think that's it. Still, I don't know for sure. A readme for the Dance Macabre would be helpful at this point for us ordinary folk, telling us where to installing it and how to start it running, and whether the AI Skirmish Mod needs to be uninstalled to get this Macabre Mod working or not.

Or, maybe Thud and his team could somehow set the Dance Macabre team up with a Desktop Icon that just handles it all, just like the AI Skirmish Mod Desktop Icon seems to handle it all for the AI Mod!

    --

If we can get a DC version of Steel Legion and get that and Dance Macabre both working with the AI Skirmish Mod inside and relatively well balanced and working all together with 9 races available, that just might be the new platform for DC gaming for awhile!

It's nice to see Thud on the case here with this one!

Good point there about the need for a Readme File.

This Harlequinn Mod can coexist with the AI Skirmish Mod. Ya don't need to uninstall AI Mod.

The trick, as you say, is to go into the Game Manager and select 'Dawn of War: Dark Crusade' and Activate it. Illogical, I know, but you should then see Harlequinns take control from the AI Skirmish Mod you had in there before. And then quit to your desktop for it all to take hold for good. Then, make sure that you press the Dark Crusade Icon to load the game and not the AI Skirmish Mod Icon, and up come the Harlequinns.

You are right, the Harlequinn selection line in the Game Manager doesn't work. Ignore the Harlequinn line in the Game Manager!

This Harlequinn Mod has to be activated from the original 'Dawn of War: Dark Crusade' line in the Game Manager that you also have to use to get back to online play, and is best triggered from the desktop with the original Dark Crusade icon. Kind of tricky indeed!

And, while they are making a readme for this mod, it wouldn't hurt to mention that in the Alpha if you select the Harlequinns as an AI ally, they just stand there and do nothing. The human player has to play as the Harlequinns in this Alpha version. I also assume that you can't use the Harlequinns as an AI enemy either, for the same reason, no AI for the Harlequinns yet in the Alpha.

To play them, the human player has to play them. Another useful piece of information to have.

@Aralez: What map are you using for your Harlequinn screenshots? The Harlequinns don't look as good with a grey background that most of the maps have. That background really shows them off nice! What map?

  15. #365
    Thank you.

I got it working. It was as you said. You have to run the plain vanilla from the Game Manager to unload the previous AI Skirmish Mod, drop to desktop, and then run the Harlequin Mod from the original Dark Crusade icon. As long as you have guessed on the right spot to put the mod, up comes the Harlequins every time.

I still don't know of the Harlequin mod is going to have to be uninstalled to go back to the AI Skirmish Mod without incident. It will either work or not when I try to run the AI Skirmish Mod from the icon next time.

Oh, the wonderful joys of a broken Game Manager. Nothing in my eyes made Relic come across as big and bloated and incompentent quite like a broken Game Manager in the DC release.

This Harlequin Mod is fantastic for screenshots! Right up there with the Necrons. Excellent work.

I found myself thinking that if Shingouki was the one who did all of this magic, he should consider going over to Thousand Sons and giving one of them there a lesson on inputing models into the game. The Thousand Sons and MitGas were asking for help there to get the models into the game the other day. Shingouki really knows how to do it, that's for sure! Excellent!

Then I find this message from Shin in Thousand Sons:
    http://forums.relicnews.com/showpost...4&postcount=95

It looks like they found him or he found them. Of course, as he says, he can't do everyone's mod, so he's gonna have to find someone to train so that there is another person who can do and will do what Shin can do.

    --
    ||
    --

My only question now is, "What happened to all of those neat models that are there in the very first message of this thread?"

The WIP Walker that looked more like Game Workshops walker or Wraithlord was probably the unit I was looking forward to seeing most.

It looked like Shin had enough there to create a completely separate race of Eldar that looked much more like the Game Workshops Eldar -- so a Harlequin Race Mod and a Legacy Eldar Race mod. Two races possible here from Shin's models.

I like the Harlequins, but I hope Shin didn't abandon his original idea to create Legacy Eldar for the game, because I was liking some of that as well. The Banshees, Scorpion, Fire Dragons, Avenger, Swooping Hawk units from the first message in this thread looked like Eldar on steroids -- Schwarzenegger Eldar! I kind of liked that too, especially after all the hundreds of messages in this forum about Gay-dar Eldar. The Legacy Eldar that Shin was working on in the beginning looked like Eldar who had been eating and working out in the gym every day -- they weren't girly men!

Anyway, I hope we see even more from Shin. The Harlequins show true talent, and they stand alone quite nicely as a race!!

And, if he did a batch of Legacy Eldar that look like the original Eldar Models from Game Workshops, that too would be an excelent stand alone race in my opinion.

    --

And, thank you for giving us something that we can see and play with ourselves!! Good stuff all around!

Thanks for the feedback guys and very sorry about any installation problems you had, it was like has been noted an alpha and thus lacks the normal polish I put into my *releases*.

Theta I don't blame you for having not read through what is now a rather large thread so I'll save you the searching .

The eldar you are referring to from the first post are for a seperate race I am still very much making known as Craftworld Eldar. That mod has enough content in it to make the harlequins look like a mini mod lets just say that. Don't be fooled though it's been in private alpha for some time. There is a LOT of finished content. I just want to wait before releasing that as I treat it in a different way to harlequins. Harlequins was always going to be a niche mod for those who like a very different flavour.

The *Official* Release of my Eldar mods will likely include both mods unless one gets to a state of "finished" way in advance of the other.

I'll be honest and say It's unlikely ill release a craftworlds build publicly this month but lets see how busy I am over the coming month. My animating has improved to the point where i can churn out the basic ones rather quickly and my confidence has grown so that I'm more willing to also tackle the more complex ones such as melee anims and sync kills.

At the least expect to see meaningful updates for craftworlds in the nearish future *Say two weeks?*.

I also have commitments to Tau mod whom I have promised to help get out their content and they are quite heavily reliant on me right now so it's unfair of me to spend too much time on this until I've got their content to them so they can carry on without waiting on me I'll be doing that first and foremost for the next couple of weeks. This does however mean that tau mod will be very compatible with both my eldar mods + of course steel legion which i also work on so I think it's to the benefit of the community as a whole .

Back later tonight to answer any questions people may have. Again guys thanks for the support, it's nice to see even an alpha get such a positive response.

Don't worry Delta the BA is still high on the priorities list, that never changes.

Lest you people think the Harlequins Alpha had halted production on the mighty craftworld mod.

This is just a small sample . The Eldar shall soon carve their former glory from the galaxy of these young naive foolish races.

The only thing I hate about the new infiltration system is that you can't see the units! Still, if I put my nose against the screen, let my eyes go out of focus, then slowly move away from the monitor, I... well, I get a headache.
Still, the Storm Guardians look sweet, love the randomization! The Swooping Hawks give us funny feelings in our pants, of course. And what I can see of the Rangers looks truly awesome.
    Nice!

  22. #372
Smiley! Those hawks are toooo cool. Cooler if they were scorpions, but that's neither your fault or theirs

AMAZING WORK !!! I am really waiting to the full version of this mod !!! Looks really nice, and I would be glad to see the might of this race, as I find them weak in actual DoW games ^^

Still haven't played the alpha of the Harlequins mod, but I will soon give it a try

@darkflame599 : It must some kind of Phoenix or Vampire from their aircraft, I think they bring vehicles or something like that, just like the Thunderhawk does for the Space Marines at the Machine Cult ^^

If you're talking about the Harlequin Alpha..

Just extract the files (except for the Backup file) into your Dark Crusade directory. This breaks multiplayer, so be sure to make a backup file for your original DC file. Hope this helped.

Yeah, and I had to re-open my account. Sorry for dropping off the end of the world. RL stuff that was.... well difficult.

And to be honest I was getting sick of DOW as a game, I loved the modeling and 40K stuff. Still, I love the campaign mode in Dark Crusade (it would be even better if I could get the game to run from longer than 20 mins without a CTD)

Where did I leave things? I'm not sure if I gave the most up-to date versions of what I had to anyone before my exit. Mind you from what I see you guys have well suppassed most of what I was working on.

Oh and what about those new Eldar minis' eh? thank god we've got Jes Goodwin back no?

  44. #394
Yo SM glad you made it back out of the webway, as you can see i pasted your stuff over to Shin so that he could move the mod on (myself being some what pre-occupied): Yes the mod team has been doing a great job plus i've seen some wip's of the new eldar mini's they've got waiting to put in the game.

Quick question for those in the know (I'm still re-finding my feet and trying to get up to date) for those who are actively modeling, what is the recommended version of Max to use? I.E the one that has the most community tool support? From what I've read so far we'll be using the old tool set for DC so, given how flakey they were I'm guessing most people are relying on community tools?
