    Why oh why!!!

Did you ever go into a store to get some termies and find they were out of stock? Then did you, instead of leaving the store, look at something completely useless and declare, ''I guess I'll by that instead." You look at the thing your fevered mind bought and you draw back in disgust. "A land speeder typhoon!?!?! Gaaaah!"
[This happened to an annonymous forum member, who will go by... captain... plasm- um, melta.
If you've got a horror story to share about things like this, post away! [it applies to terrible gifts, too]

One Xmas a couple of years ago a friend of the family bought me: 1 box of Dire Avengers, 1 Vyper Jetbike, 1 Space Marine Tac. Squad and the Ork codex.

    Enough said.

Ordering online or auctioning not only keeps you from getting things you don't want as you described by going in a store and impulse buying, it also saves you over half of retail usually. Just FYI.

Well went it to have a nosey at the Space Marine stocks to see if anything inspired (with Girlfriend in tow) and picked up something. Unfortunately it was Tyranid Codex release day and I know the guys down there fairly well. Eventually walked out with codex after being brow-beaten (in a friendly way). Have 4000+ points for Dark Angels. What do I need a Tyranid Codex for?!

    Edit:

Was once given a gift from a neighbour being very thoughtful. Knew I was into GW stuff and bought me.... Dark Elf spearmen....

Never played Fantasy, ever, but the thought was there.

The exact opposite happened to me once. My mate pulled out my name for a Secret Santa and bought me a random Commissar. It just happened to be the one that I had been looking for for three years. The shop never seemed to have it in stock.

I bought an Ork MAN for no apparent reason. I have plans to paint it, but the knowledge that it's fucking useless for me as a LaTD player has put me off.

I could say it's an obliteraor, though...

A long-ass time ago (1995-ish) I had made a special trip to a store having heard that they carried Armorcast items (they were the forgeworld back before there was forgeworld.)

I wanted a warhound titan but they didn't have one.

    I ended up getting a baneblade ($50!)

I planned to build an IG army around that baneblade but I never got very far. I sold it in 2002. Now I'm starting an IG army and wishing I hadn't sold it.

I tend to make impulse buys from the online store

Like the terminators. And the £50-worth-of-bits Khorne Daemon Prince.

Most of them bought based purely on the 'Ohhh, pretty!' factor, so I guess not all wasted, since sooner or later I'll get round to starting/finishing them.

Anytime I go to a GW shop though, I tend to buy what I need, whether that be paints or undercoat, so I always come away with something that will be useful. The interweb is what tricks me into splurging mainly. CURSES!

Heh. I am with Ap0k. I buy a lot from the online store, and ebay as well.
    I have 40 of these:

Wondering why? You will see when I post army pictures.

I've done that too. I went to buy some Termies, and instead bought some Ass.Termies.

I feel inclined to buy something from a store...

I cannot go just to "hang out". I have to have some form of formal bussiness...otherwise I'd be going to hobby shops...to...be nerdy? I dunno. But buying something makes me feel better.

Fortunatley my lack of work and tight-fisted nature tend to stop me from impulse buying. But when I come around to buying stuff anyway I tend to add a few more items than I really need so I'll maybe buy £30 worth of Necrons one week then nab an ipod off of Amazon the next week. (this actually happened recently) Thankfully I'm going back on the dole tomorrow and hopefully I'll have a job within the next 4 months either as a Joiner or Fireman.

The real problem is that I have so much time to paint the models due to lack of work so they usually get done within 4 days of getting them in the mail and I'm left with nothing to do. (except maybe stick some duds in a jar and take the paint off with oven cleaner, Mr. Muscle FYI)
