it would probably help if you installed it there in the first place

Well, there's your problem. When you installed the game the installer wrote the path to the registry. Now that you have moved the game the path in the registry is no longer correct, the updater for WA gets its info from the registry however...

Either modify the registry, or move the game back, or reinstall it to the location where you actually want it.

    Neon:

You're clearly not understanding how installers work.

When you install the program, pick where you want to install it to. That way everything's setup correctly in the registry, and things like patching programs can find where the program is installed.

If you install a program (any program, not just a game) then MOVE the program by cut and pasting its directory into another location, you're messing up any references to where the application is installed. This is especially problematic for Uninstall programs, as they go to look for the first place you installed it to, not where you moved it to.

The safest option is to UNINSTALL the game completely, and REINSTALL it pointing to the directory where you want it installed.

Don't mess with the registry, uninstall the game, and reinstall it. If you try anything else, no one here will help you.

that is the DoW registry folder, but it appears to be missing most of the entries - the one with "C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War" in the data field would be the one which needs changing...although it is normally called "InstallLocation", not "InstallDOW, and theres normally a dozen or so other entries.

I think the best thing to do is follow Uber's advice and reinstall the game.

If this is what you do with all your games (install and then move the install folder somewhere else) and you ever get a similar problem when trying to patch one of them then this will be the cause of the problem.
