    Shoutcast from Webspace

Hi all, I've got a small website. While it's nothing fancy, and I use a WYSIWYG app to build it, it serves my needs.

In any event, I've quite a bit of extra space as well as a load of bandwidth that I'm not using, and I'm considering trying something that seems pretty technical.

Is it possible to load onto the site shoutcast software so that I can stream audio from the server?

I know how to set up my own PC to stream audio, but I imagine it's a bit more complicated if it's even possible to set up a shoutcast remotely.

the majority of website-serving servers only allow the user access to web based technologies such as PHP, SQL, etc. shoutcast however is a full fledged application, in addition, it also runs on top a player as a kind of plugin. you'll need more direct access to the server in order to use it.

if you're really knowledgeable though, you could probably do everything remotely on a unix system, all via a command prompt.
    <Hyperian> yes treb
<Hyperian> teach me how to be a player like you
<treb|coffee> 1. learn to dance 2. be yourself 3. treat them as friends
    <Hyperian> those dont work

Actually, after I posted this I found a thread on Shoutcast.com where one guy set up the software remotely on a webspace, but that webhosting company had blocked all unused ports, therefore he couldn't stream.

It all got pretty technical, but the long and the short of it was that it was against the customer service agreement and it was blocked.
