    Sub-forum rules

I was just thinking of posting in the reviews section of GD and, naturally, I read the stickied threads. However, I remembered this which made me think.

Why not have a little "Announcement" box at the top of each forum's page with a very brief synopsis of the rules for that forum and links to the appropriate stickied threads? Something similar in format to the "You're not registered/logged in" box that people browsing the forum anonymously get. I think it would help prevent total newcomers to forums in general, let alone the Relic forums from breaking the rules and introduce them to the concept of stickied threads.

If there is always an announcement at the top of each page, I might not notice if an admin puts another announcement there about something else. People don't read rules. It doesn't matter how you present them, there is always something more exciting to do.

How many people do you know that have read even a significant proportion of their nation's laws?

    Announcement box?

Why would we need a second one?

That's identical to a stickied thread. What I'm talking about is something more along the lines of a box going, "THIS IS THE MOVIE REVIEWS SECTION. NO ONE LINE REVIEWS. NO STUPID COMMENTS. THERE'S A SPECIFIC FORMAT FOR THREADS IN THIS SECTION. CLICK HERE, HERE AND HERE FOR MORE DETAIL. SCREW UP AND BE BANNED." It's more attention grabbing and immediate but still requires people to visit the relevant sticky threads.

Well actually we do have forum and subforum rules that state exactly what you wrote there. And everybody here is asked to read these before they sign up.

So nobody can say he didn't know what was coming if he started flaming or whatever.

So I think this would not draw more attention but clutter up the page. I very much doubt that this would stop a single oneliner, because if a certain member doesn't care about the rules he'll not be stopped by a box.
