It's fun to watch the prissy graceful uber elves get blown to pieces by cannons and musketes.

You need guns in fantasy just as much as you need swords, in my opinion at least. I don't know why however.

    EDIT:

Please help me out with this, thanks.

I like guns in fantasy settings, myself. BUt not rapid-firing machineguns or silly crap like that - I like the real guns. Muskets and horse-drawn cannons. Bayonets. Firing lines and leapfrog-styled retreats.

I don't demand guns in fantasy, of course, but I've never seen an effective argument against having at least basic blackpowder weapons in a fantasy setting.

Edit: You might like to include some actual information on Boardwars. Perhaps some of the better ones, examples of what a Boardwar is like and how it is run. S'pose you could even mention people who offer their help to budding Boardwarriors in creating maps or giving advice.

Yeah I think the limit of fesiable gun tech is rifled precussion muskets.

Any kind of breech loader (at least in large numbers) ruins the whole idea.

I did a basic potted summary of what a BW is in the wiki. Maybe Langy could give us a bit of help with our ancient history?

im a man who feels that as a race, when teh human race has a Black powder musket, the Dwarves are Developing the next stage.
but by the same token, the elves are jsut masters at everything, even though they arnt really that Phisicly storng, their skill makes u for that.
orks just looking like a 40k ork, big, green strong, basic intelligence with a crapload of punch.
well they should also be one step behind the standard firearms wise.

but my opinions change and evolve more frequently than Tezeench's underpants.
An exausted figure pushed his way through the fray, saluting hurridly. "Five-Hundred-And-Fifty-One Postcount Malitia reportiung for duty, sah!" Then Warmaster Death looked around, and threw down his blade in disgust. "F**k it, just after the nick of time. Why does this always happen to us?"

No guns in a fantasy BW. It ruins the whole idea of it being fantasy. (Except that it is in the history of the BW, that they have black powder then that is ok.) (And dwarfs could have muskets and that kind of things 'cos they are more advanced technologigally than humans.)

I added some more stuff to the new section, particularly about GW. May I suggest that someone from Battle for Medrengrad summarize what it was actually about, for the layman? Considering I've never played in one, I didn't know to edit in. Just whether it's army or character based and the setting would be nice.

And I still demand that Langy adds some stuff about the BWs of yonder days.

    Edit @below: That's quite depressing.

    Sorry. Will be done.

And, I'm too anxious to note down the story of all 3 threads, so it's a bit long......I expect other BWs can also do the same, but just summary.

Woop nice list BrianGeneral, good to see non-senior members on the elitist project that is the RelicWiki...

As for guns in fantasy, are you crazy!?!? Guns are mechanical machines of destruction amde in the modern age, not a fantasy setting. The Mag weapons of Azear are a good replacement, I mean who uses gunpowder when you can use magic?

Guns go against the whole point of fantasy to me, there should be magic and elves and dwarves, no one-hit-kill bang-sticks.

Have fun camping Warmaster, I shall be doing the same in a weeks time then off to Spain afterwards, so I won't be around for about 3 or 4 weeks in a weeks time.

In my sense, Dragons are normally majic-resistant and need to be hit millions of times by arrows or melee weapons......Or you're thinking about Harry Potter or Anti-dragon shields? :P

Yeah; that tends to be how I have them, also. They do, however, tend to be rather rare and generally disinclined to kill you unless you really piss them off or steal from them. Generally, though - if we're talking in a boardwar sense - if you're pitting your players up against a dragon to begin with, they should at least be stupidly elite and be able to at least stand some vague semblance of a chance against one. ;p. Otherwise they, like...die. ^_^. But yeah - enchanted weapons and the like tend to have their uses against dragons (they'd practically be a necessity) - as well as specialized equipment and powers, in addition to PC's being damn tough in the first place. If you've fought Klauth in Neverwinter Nights, you'll have a fairly good idea of what I'm talking about when you need to kill the things. Unless you were one of those people who were a priest and simply used the 'Harm' spell on the poor guy.

And no - Harry Potter, for all its widespread fame and entertainment value does not, in my opinion, have a very good approach to dragons, or the potency of adult, horrifically elite and potent dark wizards, for that matter. ;P.

nah you just need a good system, or suitably experienced players.

You could create a very in depth system and commamd players to use it strictly, and not make up their own gear and so forth.

Or use an existing system (I am still waiting on that Dungeon and Dragons BW) Then gear and stuff wouldn't be a problem.

Or just let experienced players go on by themselves. (Not recommended )

I don't mind anyone from the forum adding me on MSN. I don't think you really need permission, though, since anybody who didn't want you talking to them could simply block you.

Sure, you can put me up. Just, if I forget who you are on MSN, expect me to block you until I remember. And if you message me just to chat, especially if I have myself set to 'busy', then expect me to forget who you are real quick

If you have an actual question or something specific to talk about, however, feel free to contact me.

(over 90% of my MSN contacts are currently on my 'blocked' list)

Anyways, I *may* add some stuff onto the Boardwar page of the Wiki. Maybe. Or maybe I'll just be too lazy for it:/

Anyone else? It will be an elitist gathering, it won't necessarily need dice, but the equipment and classes are all there to be played around with.

    Oh Em Gee, dice!

That being said, I could possibly at some point in the future perhaps maybe be vaguely interested in one way or another despite my lack of numerous equipment and spell listings.

I've got a few D&D books, but most of them are centered around the DM's tools - monsters, storyline, setting, etc.

Also, I played Neverwinter Nights. Does that count?

I actually play D&D every friday and have some DM experience. Have about 10 books or so including the core set and my friend has alot. The main problem with it is the Dice system which would have to be on the honor system and we all known how that might turn out.

Well I was just meaning if you have a weapon that does D12 against some crappy NPC, you may well kill them in a slash or two, but if you have a shuriken then your gonna need some poison, we dont have to roll, this is after all roleplay not science.

But as Lone has shown dice aren't hard to get a hold of, plus I think we can be pretty honourable...

And the Feat/Spell/Class/Prestige/etc lists from WotC website can help alot.

As for books you name it I have downloaded bought it.

With a random dice generator the DM/DMs could roll for the players, I suppose.

Then again, if it's in a Boardwar, you might have to rely on the honour system. I think this kind of thing would be better suited for mIRC with some buddies or something.

Regardless, you could allow only people who you trust to play if you're relying on the honour system.

Just remember whenever you use a dice generator to reload the page every so often - otherwise you get alot of the same results.

I've had an idea for a BW, i've been comtemplating this for a while.
The Gladitorial arena of the Steel planet.
Basicly, when you think gladiators, you think nets, spears, disgraced fighters and brutal fights to the death (well, i think those things).
Now put that in the middle of the future, where the basic gladiator is armed with Blade, Shield and Shotgun, and where instead of facing animals, you face genetically altered beasts of the pit, captured alien monstrosoties, and each other.
The Arena Craves blood, will it be yours?.

Basicly, everyone starts off basic, i arrange what will be fought, who will fight who, and such and such.
There will be an experiance based system, not figured how it will work, but it will be made so there is no such thing as "Short cuts".

Thoughts, Comments, Baseball bats of appreciation?.

As a vaguely interesting side-note, being rather bored and masochistic tonight, I've decided to tell anyone who's interested a few snippets of my concept for my new GalWar III race: the Vetheren Empire. Far from being a tech-centred, advanced, spiritual alien race of elders - remarkable for their abilities and strange, imconceivably mystical technology, the Vetheren (being essentially humans) are perhaps remarkable because of their ideology: they're a dystopian vision of future humanity.

A reactivist philosophy bred from a society of forgiveness, excessive personal freedoms, rights and second chances - the Vetheren Empire was born from the ashes of that society. They're a harsh, authoritarian vision in which second chances are reserved for no one - they work on the philosophy that the only good dissident is a dead one, and that the deaths of innocents are a necessary price to pay for vengeance against the guilty. They've eked out a remarkable kind of equality - those with riches and influence are still at the total, merciless command of the all-pervading Vetheren army; certain wings of which inspire terror and deal with any subversive elements in society quickly and ruthlessly.

The civil rights movement is dead; protests are met with guns and heavily-armoured gatling tanks and absolutely no mercy. Non-lethal weaponry is virtually non-existent; they've long since stopped finding a use for it since anyone resisting arrest is often shot in non-lethal locations regardless; and for significantly aggravated incidents of assault and anything higher, the punishment is death... or internment within living torture engines whose only purpose is to prolong the agony of the Punished for as long as possible.

Coming soon to a boardwar near you.

I am nearly gone on my hols, I have signed off on all the BW's I am in, 'cept Hellgate, which kinda bores me and I don't many people noticed I had stopped posting.

I should be around tomorrow maybe a for a minute the day after but I'm effectively gone.

    Have fun people!
