Cannot apply the 1.41 patch!

I have no problem with Dawn of War itself. Infact I used to play it a lot. Then I uninstalled it and now i've installed it again on the same computer.

I went into the game and clicked "online" so I could get the patches automatically. And everything was fine. But no matter what, I cannot patch my game to 1.41.

I've tried downloading it from several different sites, and getting it automatically but it just wont work althought it really should.

The message I recieve is: Patching error, not enough disk space.

So I free up space on ALL my drives, not just the one that the game has been installed onto. Now they all have AT LEAST 2gigs free. That should do it right?..no.

I dont know why it will not apply this patch although there is plenty of space. My virus scan is off, i'm not running other programs etc etc.

So now i've come to this forum asking for your help.

you can post your dxdiag now - we have a hack in place that prevents peple posting URLs on their first post, its designed to keep out spam bots.

anyway, you need around 3Gb (probably about 3.1) on the drive containing your TEMP/TMP directories (probably your system drive).

What drive is your primary drive?

Make sure that you have as much space as possible on that drive before you try and patch.

To TBS: I'm sorry I dont know what you mean by page file. I'm not inexperienced I just dont know that particular term. Now I look like an idiot. :-(

To Uber: My C: drive is the drive with my OS and everything systemwise. It has over 4 gigs free on it. My G: drive (which has the game installed onto it) has 3.04 gigs free.

I really appreciate you guys helping me by the way.

dont worry about it - "page file" is harddrive space but aside by windows to serve as supplementary RAM, its also knows as "virtual memory".

You can change it by going to system properties > advanced > performance > advanced > change

set it to zero, reboot, then apply the patch. Make sure you put it back afterwards (whether it works or not) - you dont want to be without it for any length of time.

Thank you so much guys. Finally I can play online again!
I reduced the vitual memory on drive G: to zero and it worked! I noticed my drive F was already at zero and everything on drive F has always been ok.

Should I change the virutal memory back to what it was or leave it as it is on drive G:? (which only has the game, my OS is on drive C: )

I know you said to change it back, but I just feel jittery changing it once again now everything is well.

Edit: I've already changed the virtual memory on C: to what it was already, i'm just asking about my other drives.

It doesnt particularly matter where your virtual memory is provided that you have some (a couple of gigs should be sufficient split however you like). The only factor you might want to take into account is harddrive speed - if you have a 7200 RPM drive and a 5200 RPM drive it would be best (performance wise) if you have the page file on the faster 7200 RPM drive.

Having the page file on G wasnt causing a problem as such - it was just occupying space which prevented the patch from installing (3Gb is a lot of space for a patch), putting it back certainly wont cause you any problems.
