    Prey Demo OUT NOW!!!!

Prey will be released on 10 July 2006 (Wee! My Birthday!) But the demo will be LIVE on June 22 2006. Which is.....now! The demo Is NOW available on Gamespot.

    http://www.gamespot.com/promos/2006/...emo/index.html

Prey was a game developed by 3D realms during the 1990s, and was touted as the "Quake Killer". THe project however was cancelled and had no hope of being ressurrected, until 2004-2005. Now, the game is rebuild, from the ground up via the Doom 3 Engine, the development is being done by Human Head Studios and 3D realms is Co-developing the game. For ONCE, a 3D realms game that WON'T take forever.

Well, technically it already has taken forever. Still, even if you factor in the ten years it wasn't being worked on, it's still taking less time than Duke Nukem...

Long download times (since I'm too cheap to pay for any website membership), here I come! I dunno about you guys, but if the download rate is really, really, slow, I might just wait s'more for a torrent or something.

Personally, I'm really interested in this game, since with all its features it has to potential to cure some (or most!) of my "gameless summer blues"

It looks and sounds pretty damn awsome but....will it run on my machine?...

I cant help feel it would just crash.

Not that my computer is old or low-end but, its not alienware.

Think of it this way: it'll run exactly like doom 3 (for me, that means everything on max 1600x1200 resolution, even on a "simple" 7800 GT 3.2 ghz 1gb ram system )

Overall all I have to say, is that this game "rocked my socks" too and I can't wait for the full version to come out. Words cannot describe what it is like to see this stuff happen in real time. It's really awesome

PS: Sure, my system may seem on the high end, but high end to me is a $2000 sli dual core billion ram pc. I only spent about $1400 cnd on mine and I can play this game on full prettyness weeee

Amazing so omfg amazing. The part where you get shrunk and your on the mini moon fighting guys so god damn cool. This is what a demo should be like good length multiplay. Haven't been this excited about a shooter in ages.

Alienware is over-rated. Since this built around Doom3 engine, if you can run Doom3/Quake 4, then I guess you can run this too. Plus, its only a ~450mb download, give it a try anyway!

I know nothing about this game, but I'm getting the demo anyway! Hurrah!

Hopefully at the lake. Miss that place terribly in the winter.
So it's not just an average shooter that's built around a couple mildly neat gimmicks, then?

Played it, really enjoyed it, the standout moment for me was when I zoomed in to get a headshot on a mutilated human, shot, the head came off and without missing a beat the body came running for me :O

    2. problems worry me
    a) the design might become repetative after a while so I hope they mix it up a bit. It's incredibly disgusting and creepy but the biological feel probably won't keep on feeling new.
    b) tried the multiplayer first time lag was horrible second time i joined a game it crashed. Will have anotehr go later.

Nay retroboy, it's a bit more...portals, wall-walkingpads, incorporeal stuff, going to other dimensions, gravity generators...it felt new.

Got the multipreyer (groan) to work the combat is basically standard deathmatch but the levels are again very wierd. It's often disorientating when you're being shot at by someone on the roof. Also the spirit walk works well in multiplayer, low on health? just spirit walk and killsomeone and tada you are regened! Problem comes if they find your body...

If yes, then it seems to be worth a try.
Indian_farmer vs. Evil_vicious_aliens sounds more original than White_farmer vs. Evil_vicious_aliens anyway.

At last, all that time mastering wall-walking in AVP2 wasnt in vain, mwahahahah! ahahaahaha!! *cough splutter wheeeeze! chough cough cough* ugh.,..chocking...on...saliva....graaagh!! *cough splutter...breath breath breath*.. fuck me...

    Where was I?...oh yeah, AVP2, hehe hehehe...heh...

Played the singleplayer, its okay, gets choppy here and there, suffice to say i wouldnt fancy myself against a large horde, multiplayer is meh.

all in all a decent singleplayer experience, and its getting me used to the engine for quake wars.

avp 2 alien sucked. Avp1 alien was much easier to control, simpler, faster, and less prone to getting caught on sharp edges, easier to jump from wall to wall without loosing Grip, and maps are built around humans, so they're at a disadvantage, while in prey everyone can be in an advantage or not, it's no longer race (player class) dependant, but dependant on "player's skill"...

demo is going at 8Kb/s, so i'm not going to bother with it untill the morning...again >_>

edit: i passed the recommended settings thingie program with flying colours. ^_^ Maybe i dont need to buy a new computer after all...j/k

Well, that was fun. The bit with the bar was great, especially the jukebox! And its return! The whole spirit thing was cool, but I wish there was more of it in the demo. I really loved the portal thingies, too.

    Overall, awesome!

Yeah, the demo was pretty promising. I loved the wacky gravity (I really did start to feel queasy at some point), the walkways, and the portals. There is one point in the game with two connected portals really close together, so that when you go through one you can see yourself from behind. I kept thinking, if I'm fast enough I can almost catch up to my own ass!

The spirit-walk thing is also a nice twist. I'm definitely getting this one.

First thing I thought when I was walking through the first portal that you can see yourself, "Hey, I wonder if i can shoot myself?" Next thing you know, headshot - dead

Overall, I hope that when the game comes out, there will be more trippy things to experience.

Yeah, those gravity walkways take a little while to get used to. I also shot myself through a portal, but never did a headshot. You have to love some of his comments.

Wow, I never heard of this game. But I downloaded the demo, and it's definately on my want list now! I read alot about the demo in about 10 previews already on it. However, it was still extremely fun and surprising, everything about it is just crazy. The first time I killed something while we were both upside down and watch it go flying down was a true "Wtf." I also had alot of fun turning the gravity walk off, the soldier looked around for a second while the walk powered down, and then watched as he plunged to his death from a 30 ft drop. Defienately a good game.

It was a good demo, the whole abduction scene was alright, just interacting with the enviroment and pissing about, the playing with the portals, and that portal where you can see yourself in front from behind, or even see yourself looking back at yourself, jesus the voice actor had it right when he said "that felt wierd...".

The grav-walkways werent my favorate but since the game was a little choppy the last thing you need is a wee bit of screen-lag when trying to fight and then be all over the place on walls.

There was one particular corridor obstacle that i seemed to get hit by more often then not but i learned my lesson.

The spirit walking is cool enough.

I'm not a fan of multipreyer to be honest, it makes a good singleplayer experience but multiplayer is just run gun die for the momment, not too grand i reckon but thats just personal opinion.

    Spoiler

You're not the only one who's not really blown away by the Multiplayer. It's fun, but it's not THAT special, despite the dimentional stuff in that game, which is fun of course.

The Singleplayer however is what makes this game very special.

I guess I haven't played any kind of deathmatch in a long time because I was highly entertained.

Oh my God, The Pretenders and Blue Oyster Cult were awesome. "Don't Fear the Reaper" has not been this well employed since the beginning of "The Stand."

I have to admit the demo is pretty good. However, I can't wait for my 360 version. On a related note, to you 360 users, there is the E3 demo of Lost Planet available for download via xbox live. Tis a thing of pure beauty.

I tried the Lost Planet demo and I can't wait for the full game. Its pure 3rd person arcady destruction to the Xtreme. Like a 3D Contra or something. I loved hopping into the mech and tearing through baddies with dual chainguns.

Wow. That sure as hell was... disorienting to say the least. I agreed with the guy when he said 'now I'm going to be sick'

The atmosphere was perfect, espcially the part with the football thing in the glass, and when we see the entirety of the Alien spaceship, a pure sit back and say 'whoa' moment.

I also can't help but notice the influences from Half Life, entirety of demo in 1st person ftw. Immersion was complete

Very nice. Very, very nice. Very disorienting, with the whole biological organic material procesing plant within a giant space ship is even wierder.

I probably wont get this game unless the final version show's multipreyer to be a bit more substantial, though the single-player is definately one of the best and fun I've played in a while, multiplayer is what keeps me interested in my games, singleplayer can be played through pretty quickly when I'm determined and even when I'm playing casually a bit here and there over a few days and its done.

Hopefully the full release multiplayer will have capture the flag and other kinda game-types and varying maps.

Preferably ones with a little less blatant wall/roof walking all over the map, or gravity tripping, its okay, but its a feature that works better in modesty I reckon.

Though shooting Squiddy was rather fun.

I like the graphics and the atmosphere, but I have to wonder about the spirit walk thing, seems too much like a gimic and not enough a part of the storyline. Of course, this is just the demo so we'll see.
