Super Units.

    Super Units.

Why not give both sides super units like in Dawn of War?

Germans could have the Maus tank, US could have the T-28 Super Heavy Tank.

Thats just my two cents. Anyone else like this idea?

Yeah I can agree but they must of some kind of big weakness like being really slow or really unmanueverable, because a.... never mind about the beta.

Exactly. The Real-Life versions were both extremely slow, so I guess that would be a weakness. But some people would argue that the... oh, not supposed to talk about the beta... :P

T-28s were never used in combat (and only two made). Relic has expressed an interest in keeping things realistic, so that's out. Same for the Maus - only one was to see combat, and it broke down on the way there.

  5. #5
There is some debate about whether a Maus was actually used in combat. But I won't get into that here. So instead of the Maus, what about a King Tiger? And if theres no chance for a T-28 then what would take the place on the American side?

I don't like the idea of super units for this kind of game.
That would destroy the atmosphere for me.

If any type of extra storng units, than I rather something more like in DoW, Commanders.
But WW2 commanders did not have any hammers or swords, and could've still get killed easily, so it whould not be fun.

It wouldn't really work... the King Tiger was fielded in fairly significant numbers, and wasn't actually THAT powerful.

KTs suffered from poor armour quality and were actually knocked out by Soviet IS-2s and ISU-152s on a regular basis. They were also incredibly slow and consumed large amounts of fuel (which probably won't be simulated in COH anyway). I guess the KT would make a decent German super weapon but the US is going to need something incredibly bad ass in return and I really can't think of anything.

In Soviet Russia, forums moderate YOU!

Just a hint, Maus was never used in fight or break on the way into That freakin tank was just a joke, like the Neubaufahrzeug and some other freakin stuff.
2 Maus were build, one didnt even get a turret and the other was just tested and break up in the tests.
Btw, for the "I Want a Supertank Crew" google for P1500 Thats a really huge thingy.

You may want to read alittle more on the subject of the KT. There is very strong evidence to suggest that a KT never suffered a penetrating hit on is front armour. IT was knocked out, but was not the easiest of targets.

Dont believe everything you read on battlefield.ru

Want to know what could counter the hypothetical German super tanks? Just like it tended to be in the real war: About 40 Sherman tanks ;p
    Dammit, not again!

Hehe, you wont need 40 Sherrmans
1 Firefly would have done the job.
Supertank doesnt mean its supertough armored. HEAT is your friend for the job.

HEAT, you mean AP rounds for the 17pdr? HEAT does not penetrate as well as AP rounds due to its composition.

although from mid 1944 APDS rounds were available for the gun and gave it greater penetration, but was less accurate then APCBC round which was the most favoured round to use agaisnt AFV's.

All that being said the main gun of the KT was more powerful then the 17pdr, add to that the top german optics and a first round hit on the firefly was a confirmed kill for the KT (firefly, based on the sherman, still had the "Ronson effect"), not so for the opposite.

-VT- You don't have to penetrate the KT's armour to kill it. ISU-152s have been known to knock turrets clean off of Tigers and Panthers, a hit with a shell as large and heavy as the 152mm would cause some severe armour cracking at best to incapacitating the crew and destroying vital systems all the way to critical damage that would destroy the whole vehicle.

The KT was the best all round tank built in WW2 guys... the draw back was the cost of the nazi's to make them, the long production time and the shear weight of the tank. The Sherman tank could be produced alot quicker, alot cheaper, and could travel in bad terrain, unlike the KT, which was too heavy to move in mud as it would sink etc., thus fighting on the western front caused it problems... when the allies cut the bridges on the main roads, the KTs could not move fast enough and often got bogged, or ran out of fuel..

The KT to me could be seen in a future expansion.

M26 Pershing? It entered service in Jan 1945. It is a heavy tank, though I think it may have been reclassified into a mediem tank.

What part of " IT was knocked out, but was not the easiest of targets" did you not understand?

I merely mentioned about the prospect of a frontal penetration shot on a KT and the chances of it happening and the fact that most pictures show KT's with penetrations in the flanks and sides. Thats why the cavet after the statement.

The pershing must have been seen as god send to the US ETO tankers.

It was deficient in many ways. It was slow, EXPENSIVE, difficult to produce, guzzled massive amounts of fuel, heavy, difficult to transport and a large target for attack planes.

Yes it's true. More KT were lost by engine etc. problems than in battles. But it was still one of our most dangerous tanks together with the Tiger and Panther.

The Panther is probably the best allrounder of the war. Great armour, great firepower, great speed, what more do you want?

No surrerender perhaps next time read my whole post... I did mention the drawbacks to the tank. Toe to Toe with any other tank during WW2 the KT would win, the power of its main gun was insane, the way it was made as well, the armor was slanted, thus shells would deflect off its armor instead of impacting on it (all modern tanks are made the same now).

The KT should be included in an expansion.

An IS-3 would absolutely flatten a KT.

Meh, The US super unit would be a flight of Thunderbolts sending heavy bombs and HVAP rockets......

While a KT would have a good edge in a long range dual against a Sherman Firefly, in close combat the much faster movement and turret speed means the Firefly can get the jump on a KT more often than not, and KT armor is not going to stop a Firefly shot at anywhere other than front hull. And a Firefly weights one half of the KT.....

Germans would have been better off building more panthers, more stugs and more pak40 than the KT....

It would be cool if they actually went into the German E series vehicles that never made into onto the battelfield like the Krokodil.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

dont say that... it makes waiting more difficult to bare...

I didn't know this would take so long... i mean, i only see +9000 downloads of the client in fileplanet... (i managed to get to the file info page once)...

I doubt there will be more downloads, because all the subrcribers downloaded it, and the ppl that couldn't wait, already payed a subscription. i would pay it aswell, but i live in a country where there is no online methods in my case for tthe subscription.

all i wanted is a little light in the shadow lol...

Anyways, if i wanna report an NDA violations, where do i go? (video case)

    That would suck so horribly.

For it to be realistic, it'd have to take out the entire map. CoH is meant for company-sized engagements - 100-200 soldiers. Plus the whole 'no atom bombs in the European theatre' problem.

Anyways, if i wanna report an NDA violations, where do i go? (video case)
I'd imagine the best way would be to send a PM to Buggo, she'll forward it on.

    Commissar[PT]:

I believe I know what you're talking about and it's been reported by a few people. From what I've heard the issue is already being looked into by Relic and THQ but some additional info would certainly help them.

And now I shall leave you fine people to your speculating

  42. #42
The preview (on IGN i think) stated the germans have a King Tiger. We can assume the american get something to rival it.

  43. #43
If I remember correctly, one of the tactics during WW2 was to find and destroy refueling dumps. If this is part of gameplay, then the impact of tanks could be reduced considerably. However, how to calculate tank fuel use may be a headache for programers. It may be part of gameplay in terms of tank caps etc...if you control certain strategic points this will limit opponents ability to field tanks. BTW I haven't played beta, this is just pure navel gazing.
