Nothing entirely wrong with being a perfectionist. I ended up with three versions of the Teamcolorable Apothecary skin, and I still make minor tweaks to the other skins. Just waiting for DC now. More skins to play with!

DOWNLOAD Golden Eagle 1.5-1.6 patch.. thing

A small update to the 1.5 Golden Eagle set, this 'patch'
(for want of a better term) contains an updated Force
Commander and SM banner.

Force Commander: includes updated skulls on chest and
shoulder. Shoulder eagle/feathers updated for detail. This
version of the FC weilds the electric blue 'overcharged'
powersword. The finished 1.6 set will contain both versions
(plain steel and overcharged).

Alternative SM banner: designed to match the wrinkle sheet
I made for banners. Features a teamcolourable design as
well, so hopefully no 2 chapter banners will be totally
alike (ignoring the fact that they should have a different
banner graphic). This file replaces the banners found on
the Sargeant and Listening Posts.

american_rdm, if you could, please take a screenie of the unit, and make notations using MSPaint or somesuch, then PM it to me. That really cuts down on my having to redo it 3 times to get it right...
I also need to know which layer you want the parts to be colourable on (Primary, Secondary, etc.). I'm figuring you want the uniform to be Primary, and I assume you want the storm bolter to be on Weapon?
PM me with details, and I'll do a quickie based on my assumptions, so I'll PM you back with the WIP screenie.

Here's a quick and easy one for anyone in particular:

Trim 2 the Looted Leman Russ Tank's skull emblem?

EDIT: Here's a new request to go along with the above:

Take the 1.4 Space Marine skin (found on IBBoard's skin site) and add Trim to all the RED circled areas (green X was a mistake, don't add trim there.) Thanks to anyone who can do this.

EDIT: A third request! Yes, I'm on a roll.

As the picture says, I want the red jewel thingies at the end of the Bright Lance to be trim 2 colorable (Just like the ones on the Wraithlord.)
(I'm in for a good long wait, but do not worry.... I am paitent.)

Hi,

I hope I am not asking for something that is too hard to do, but would it be possible for someone to do a few alterations to an IG soldier, and make him an attachable medic?

I thought that making a few changes to a model and doing the colouring/texturing sort of fitted into the intent that this thread was all about.

My apologies if I was wrong. I guess I was pushing the envelope, just a little.

I think the main thing Adonis is looking at is, to just do a reskin wouldn't really set a medic apart from a standard guardsman, whereas Master Havoc's Medic actually has nifty bitz and probably animations that would make him stand out a bit.
Still, I don't have a problem slapping a red cross on a Guardsmen, but I'm a little swamped ATM, which is why I haven't posted skins yet.

Adonis,

I don't really want to tie up valuable space on this thread with an ongoing discussion, and I probably wasn't as clear as I should have been, but what I actually wanted was for someone to give a normal guardsman perhaps a white helmet and upper body armour, with a red cross on the helmet. I can do the necessaries for the healing and attaching abilities myself (I think).

Sorry a lot of info to sift through, could someone just tell me if I install one of these could I still modify their colors as I want via Army Painter?

Cuz I'd like my troops to look better, but I don't want them all to be the same color and what have you

With just about all of them you can still modify the colours, since they're just modifications of the existing textures that Relic made. Some downloads will even show you the model in different colours to give you an idea of different looks, but on the whole a lot of people use one colour scheme to make it easier.

The ones I know that won't let you modify colours (not sure if they're listed here) are some of Sandwichwarriors Aspect Warrior skins, but they say "non-teamcolourable" when I list them on my site.

Oh so they're mostly colorable? Hmm well in any case I'll be looking for that team colorable option more now, thanks IBB

PS-Anyone want to suggest a few things that are just good textures to make 'generic' troops look better? i.e. I just want to make the models look better not make all of them have Dark Angels insignias or what have you...

Like I said, you don't need to look for the team colourable option - I host about 150 skins on my site and only four of them that I can think of are non-teamcolourable (v1.0 and 1.0 of Sandwich's Aspect Warriors and then v1.0 and 1.1 of a matching set someone made for the Fire Dragons in WA)

For Marines it has to be Hangar-8's Golden Eagles set - he's adding lots of the missing detail to it (the actual downloads are on his site, but I've added screenies on my pages). Other than that, I've made some minor changes to the Orks, but nothing amazing, and lots of people seem to like Sandwichwarrior's Tiger Wraithlord and Grav Tank. If you're one for fluff, I did a Saim Hann-style Vyper. Finally, of course, you can't forget the camo pack that Soleil Rouge has just finished for the Guard - a great pack of realistic camo

Basically, check out my skins download section and see what you like

Along with my requests on the other page, I've got a few more here:



Add trim to Chaos Lord's cowskull, easy.




Trim added to all the circled areas.... thing is, I want it done on Hangar-8's original Khorne Bezerker skin that is no longer downloadable. I can email it to the one who wishes to do the skin though.



Add trim to the Assassin's little skull. Use havoc's skin as a base.



Weapon added to all the blue "wires".

If it's a problem that some of the skins require you to take other author's skins... perhaps you or I could ask their permission? Thanks if anyone can do all these skins.

Anyone modifying the skins should ask permission anyway, unless the author has specifically said their skins can be modified, at which point you should just give credit

As for Hangar-8's Berserkers, they're still available. I've got a link with screenies and Hangar-8 himself still has them towards the bottom of his patterns page. Wouldn't suprise me if some of the links from these forums are dead, though, because the domain changed a few months ago and forums never get updated!

Ah, okay, didn't remember there being that much of a difference but now that I think about it there was.

I'm kinda bored and Uni has now finished, so I guess I'll take a few of these up. I'll work from the end and go backwards. Don't seem to have snagged a copy of the original TC Beserker though, so you'll have to email it to me. PM me if you don't have my email address.

I'll give Hangar-8 a quick shout about modifying his skin, but he's usually okay, and I'll as Havoc as well.

Team Colourable Berserkers (modified) now available. Thanks to Hangar-8 for letting me modify his skin The hardest part about that one was tracking down the outside of the medallion thing!

Now on to the Chaos Lord...

[edit] Chaos Lord with colourable sheep skull now available.

These minor modifications should be easy enough for anyone to do, as long as they've got Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop or something and have read my Making non-teamcolourable areas teamcolourable tutorial

Time for a break now.

The Chaos textures are just as minor a change as the Wraithlord, but I'm glad you like them Personally, I think the skull fitted well as bone, but it does work quite well as Trim as well.

Anyway, my break to read more of the Eisenhorn trilogy and have dinner/tea is over. Now to go back to the previous page and work my way up that with some more simple skins to get me 'back in the groove' so to speak

EDIT: As for the cow skull... I personally think all non-human skulls on chaos units should be trim colored (this applies to the assassin as well.)

Now for american_rdm's requests. First up, the White Badge Guardsman.

Now to work out if the tank skin is possible, because you can only have one badge per texture and so it depends how Relic split the tank textures...

Oh, and Havoc gave me the go-ahead as well, so the assassin will be done soon.

[edit] Nope, sorry american_rdm, but the Hellhound/Chimera request isn't possible exactly as you specified. Textures can only have a single badge (although a model can have multiple textures) and the way Relic have split it up, the two sections with the campaign badge on are in the same texture. There aren't even many alternatives to where it is now, because most places would leave it upside down on the final texture.

Now on to that Assassin and then the requests before american_rdm's...

It always has been a request thread Only difference is that now I wanted some little tasks to keep me occupied and so I took some of them up, where as before everyone has been too busy (either with other skins/mods or with real life)

[edit] Also, I've got to check to make sure, but have you tried Mel Danes' Terminators? They have white helmets in the screenie, and they definitely have the 'stone' cruxus, just need to make sure the helmets are not team colourable.

[edit2] Yep, looks like Mel Danes' Terminators are what you need - they've been out for a while too. Not sure if he'll ever get a chance to do the extras he wanted on them

[edit3] I've now done Crystalking's other three requests. The flamer isn't perfect because I can't work out why there's some bleed on to the igniter, but it's colourable now. The tank looks fine and the crystals are now colourable (although my first test was using Biel-Tan, at which point the eye colour is red - d'oh!)

Anyway, I'll get them packed, prepared and with properly formatted screenshots later today. I should have them up by this evening.

I should actually get around to updating the site, and add this as well. I'll put it here for now anyhow:

Anyone wanting to use my skins as a base for anything, feel free to do so. Permission is granted, for what it's worth. Considering that most of the work in any of these skins projects was done by Relic artists it'd be a bit cheeky not to anyhow The stuff I do for DoW isn't going to be part of some uber secret portfolio either. It's done by me for the community (this includes the B&B sets), so if anyone can find more than the original use for any of the stuff.. go for it I say.

Anyhow, there ya go.. sounds a bit pompous to me now to have said it but well.. everyone knows it's ok to us the bits I did :P

[edit] At some point in the near future I should be releasing a DiY banner PSD, with some of the more common elements for banners included on separate layers.

Just watch out for Hangar-8's marines being cloned all over the place by people making a very minor change and claiming it as their own now! Although with your work, I don't think it can be called pompus.

Anyway, just going to start packaging and processing screenies for the last requests I completed, so expect to see them uploaded and available soon...

[edit] Okay, all packs now released for Crystalking's previous requests!

Leman Russ with coloured skull glyph, Pre-1.4 Marines with colourable flamer (since the pic showed the old changable-eyes skin, and I'm guessing you meant pre-1.4 not 1.4) and Grav Platform with colourable crystals (only the ones you said - I noticed while taking the screenshots that there's more bumps on the shield that could be crystals, but left them as-is)

Now to take a mini-break and do some of the other things I've been planning to do after I finished my exams!

After studying the Brightlance platform and the Brightlance on the Wraithlord, I've noticed the one on the crystals on the Wraithlord are slightly brighter, just pointing that out. Now the Flamer, after a bit of studying, I've decided it's a touch too dark. Would you mind brightening the trim a bit?

Crystalking: I'll look at making it brighter later, but since it was the flamer nozzle (i.e. somewhere where paint wouldn't hold long) I went for more 'coloured metal' than 'painter the trim colour'

American_rdm: sorry, no can do. Like I said, it'll end up upside down or need to be at an angle to fit anywhere on the texture. The back door is the only place it'll work on the chassis. It might be possible to add it to the sides of the tracks (the bits where a Leman Russ' sponsons go) but there's only a texture for one so I'm not sure how it'd end up looking when it's reused on the other track.

IBBoard: I understand what you went for there, but I find it stands out in a bad way with all the other trim painted objects (particularly with my custom SM scheme.)

Ok, quick class. When the TGA files are extracted from the WTP, they pretty much come out looking like this (I'll use the space marines texture as an example):



Most WTP files have 8 TGA files in them: default (pictured above), primary, secondary, dirt, trim, eyes, badge, and weapon. Some models even have more than one WTP file to texture them. However, by looking at the default, you can usually tell right away by the positioning of certain items that adding/subtracting stuff from the texture sometimes will not work because it would look crooked or just plain wrong on the model itself.

Hopefully this give people a better idea of what we're working with here. It's not that we don't want to make certain textures for you all, it's just that it's not always possible.

Yeah, what Adonis said, and it's especially awkward when Relic do things like taking a central section of the back door of the Rhino and re-using it as the smoke launchers! I'd say it's a minority of WTPs that actually use all of the layers, though. Most of the ones I looked at recently for requests certainly don't have them all

Also, for the post-1.4 people, "eyes" is the old name for Trim2, but since it's only a display thing Relic stuck with the old name in the texture and teamcolour files rather than break all existing teamcolours. *

Crystalking: I'll see about getting it done when I next do some texturing, but in the mean time it might work if you just open the _dirt layer and make it a bit darker for the flamer areas (because some of the underlying metal is currently showing through with the way I did it).

* Technically, the WTP doesn't have a 'primary', 'secondary', 'trim' etc layer, it just has layers IDed 1 through 7, but input naming conventions are that they map to primary, secondary, trim etc. Minor bit of useless knowledge for most people there!

IBBoard: Would... MSPaint work doing that? (Dumb question probably. If it doesn't, I'll try downloading a trial version of Paint Shop Pro or some advanced paint program.)

No, TGA-capable programs only unfortunately. PSP, Photoshop and a few others probably have free trials, The GIMP is completely free but slightly less user friendly, and there's probably quite a variety of fairly simple little editors that'll let you adjust balance/contrast and things. You just need to be able to find them

I have..... bad memories of trial version paint programs. But, I guess I could give it a try. I'll post my results if there are any.
EDIT: Both Paintshop Pro and Photoshop trials require you to make an account and log in.... now I remember why I hate trial version paint shops.... maybe my friend will let me borrow his trial version or is that illiegal?
EDIT2: I got the gimp, I decided to try doing a quick change on the apothecary to see how my artist skills are (using your "making non-teamcolorable areas teamcolorable" tutorial.) I stink so far! What's throwing me off is how to copy & paste stuff so smoothly.

Ah, yeah, sometimes they do require accounts. All you do then is sign up for a disposable Hotmail account or something - end of spam worries

But copying and pasting smoothly? In what way? Anti-alias or getting it in the right place? Anti-alias should be an options somewhere. For correct position I just select a block of image in the corner and copy that with it, use it to align the pasted part perfectly with its original position and then delete the junk. There may be a better way (PSP used to have a 'paste in place' option, although I think that may have been only on the same image) but it works.

Anti-alias? block of image? junk? It's all greek to me! As for what I meant by copy and pasting smoothly, I meant trying to get everybit of an area (IE, the Apothocary's robotic eye bits) without anything outside of it (the metal part holding his eye). I guess we should continue this convo by pms from now on too.

EDIT: I give up with the paint stuff. I tried and it just isn't my kind of work.
