[Commission] Ultramarines tactical squads...

As part of the commission I'm working on the client has requested that his 2 tactical squads get split up into combat squads drawn from other squads. Squad 6 will consist of bolters and a lascannon. This thread will gather all the paintwork on the tactical marines...

The client likes the standard shown below, but thought I'd gather some additional feedback here for future reference...

Given that you're painting a metric crap ton of these guys I think this is a solid standard.

I like them. Easily Tabletop Standard +2, and I agree with Mr. Justin- if you pump out an entire army to that standard, it's going to be beautiful. I, personally, would be thrilled to see that on the opposing table edge .

I'll chime in with MrJ & Canfu here. For tabletop standard, this is golden.

Excellent standard to set! Well above gaming standard for an entire army! I hope boredom doesn't set in.

And then there were three... the other 2 will be finished tomorrow, then it's time for a drop pod.

The freehand, the different cable colours on the lascannon and the overall attention to detail is simply fantastic. Really top notch work.

Nice! Quick question: The chain-thingies on the shoulderpads; are those on the sprue, or something you made?

I made those. They're short sections of 9ct gold chain. The shells for the marksmans' honours are styrene rod turned in a dremel.

The chain looks great.

What's with the bases though?

Very clean and concise, very strong standard. Looks like a clean and professional job. Good work.

Hazchem- The bases are from mister justins 'Trench works' series. Secret weapon minitures

I chose them because... well I really liked them! They have the straight edges as opposed to the angled because it provides a few extra mm's for detail on the base in case your question was with regards to that.

Kiwiguy, thanks for that. Just looks like the rims are a little tall for forty-kays, that's all.

Apparently Secret Weapon have now resolved the casting issue that was leading to inconsitent base thicknesses. Hurrah!

My bases are 1mm thicker than the stock GW base. The issue Wingterdyne is referring to is one I was having with early casts leading to some bases being thicker than others. The bases are now a uniform 3mm thick prior to detailing. This makes them a bit heavier and less prone to tipping over.

Some folks think the bases are too tall - others don't like the straight sides - and while I'm willing to admit my bias I happen to like both

And now back to your regularly scheduled thread....

MAN! That's so awesome! How can I put up my stuff with your amazing work right here? this pretty much makes everything I've ever dreamed of doing just sit down and cry. I've never seen anything like what you did here and I'm liking it more and more each time I see it!

Man, for a tabletop standard, that's just amazing. I feel sick to my stomach when I see stuff like this because no matter how hard I try and practice, my minis come out looking mediocre at best, lol. I hate Ultras, but fantastic job on them!
