I am looking to add some more DoW avatars to our current list, so if you feel like getting some nice screen shots together and cropping / resizing them to our standard avatar size submit them here and I'll consider the good ones to be added to the current list of avatars.

Do they have to be screen shots? I was wondering if we could have some 40k related things that aren't even in the game? (tyranids for example?)...

Not all the current avatars are screen shots are they? can't we have more artwork?

they MUST be from the game and be Relic IP. Anything from the general 40k universe will not be added.

These are the rules handed to me from GWI that allows us to be one of the few if not only forum on the net allowed to use public Avatars that are essentially GWI IP.

Yeah, dunno how that affects the situation though. I guess we have the banners at the bottom of the DoW race skins, so they might be authorised.

Ok, heres my first few... my graphics card isn't very good, so I must admit I stoll this picture off the "Post Your Uber Screens Here" thread... and photoshopped it (well, literally I "gimped" it) so there was more contrast.



this is my background, the full picture is probably my favourite screenshot in that thread (well, of the 60 pages of that thread I've seen)...

edit again: almost forgot to ask, can we submit gifs? if it's no larger (in terms of kbs) would you except moving gifs? As long as it's under 12k would that be alright? (12k is the largest current avatar I found)...

Finally in case I do get off my butt and make my own screen shots, does anyone know of a consol comand that will increase the brightness on the picture?

Having looked at the current avatars, it's nice that we might be able to even up the differnet races (there are over twice as many orks and marines as chaos and elder)...

I like the three sparkly WS (have they just teleported?), infact I think they are my favourite along with the Wraithlord.

I was wondering where the mods stand on IP? Would you accept an avatar from a mod? having seen some peoples sigs, I'm pretty sure a picture of a greyknight from the deamon hunters mod would get used?

I got to thinking about that, because I was also wondering if you would accept a community map pack avatar?

Well, Homeagain, thanks for that detailed and insightful explanation... surprising I'm still none-the-wiser.

I've still got no idea what a CMP themed avatar would look like, I've not used the ME enough, is there anything in it which could symbolise a mapper?... hmm how about a fighter bomber on a flat gridded surface... I'm sure I can manage that... probably not till after the weekened though.

Finally to try to keep this topic on course here's some more avatars... not sure if these are up to scratch though:

try not to make "mini screenshots". Although some of those are good, check out the current batch, they are close ups of units monstly with few, group shots.

Try for some cool poses of each unit, and crop them so the detail is focused on that unit and not an orange backdrop taking up 50% of the pic.

Hanger-8's first batch is exactly what I am looking for, neatly cropped clean shots with good detail focused on the unit or the units face.

If your shots fit that bill they will get added.

Also don't resize your shots so they distort, I can see a few squashed shots and they look wrong, and out of place. If you resize a shot, scale it, but it's best to get the shot right "in game" then crop for better detail.

I hope these are suficiently un-screenshot-like. I understand what you mean, I suppose avatars are supposed to represent the poster and posters might not want to be represented by an orbital strike or two characters in battle. But please let the BT and FC one on my first post get through, because I would really like to have that as my avatar... anyway...

It's funny what you said about orange back drop, i was going to do one of raptors, just as specs on the horizon... I think it looks really cool... but I'm probably in the minority.

I'm hoping we could also submit non screenshot avatars since personaly I don't like the look of 100x100 ingame shots, So I did something different.







If you want to use my avatars I can change the colours and whatever symbol you want.
