Onslaught MOD Special Release
I recently promised to put all my ideas together in another release of Onslaught. Last night I did a bit more, and I've made some significant changes.
The most obvious is the total replacement of asteroids and crystals with harvestable debris and consumable wrecks. There are lots of other changes too, like a general reduction in available resources, increased research times and altered/upgraded effects. I think I've pushed the Cataclysm game about as far as it can go now. Anyway, there's a lot of tidying up to do but it's pretty much ready. This is just for fun, since virtually no one plays Cataclysm/Onslaught anymore. I don't really expect much comment, but if anyone has a (reasonable) suggestion now is the time to make it. |

debris and wrecks, sounds pretty cool, id say (and its a pretty huge change) ge rid of the nomad moon, i always thought that, whilst being unbelieveably cool, it was a bit overpowered and was too big, a big ship with lots of guns would be nice (like the Onslaught "Naggarok") but dont have it too big.
of course i doubt that will be taken into consideration |

Normally I don't start talking about Onslaught releases until I'm nearly or completely done. This is no exception. I just need a day to sort out the texture allocation file and tidy up generally. It'll be with you in less that two weeks.

OK, so here's a shot of the game with the new resources. The wrecks replace the large crystals. The debris replaces the asteroids. You may also notice that repair beams are now blue. There are a lot of small changes like that.
![]() Anyway, I have a favour to ask. Homeboy, you seem pretty sharp with graphics. I've played around with the Cataclysm logo from your site and have come up with something that's better than my own version. May I use yours? |

Yes, You may, but You need to know who created those in the first place: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=57897 Riess, DeepChrome, Jal-18, Jaen-ni-rin, Zbobet2012, Kaldaris and even Deadguy all chipped in. Finalized version on my site, with roll-overs, are thanks to Riess and Jaen. My avatar is based on DeepChrome's. |

Onslaught is a LOT more demanding than basic Cataclysm, so you need a decent PC. The new version, where I've thrown in a lot more effects and suchlike, is even more intensive than v3.5 was. Still, if you can play v3.5 then you should be able to play the new one when it comes out.
Right now the new version is seriously unstable, but (I hope) that's because I haven't tidied up and sorted out the memory allocation. Homeboy, thanks. I'll drop them a line. |

Something else I wanted to was improve the Somtaaw mothership textures. They always did annoy me. The ship, which is made up of eight "planks", is absolutely huge. I have now updated them.
Behold these HWSE screens showing the evolution from the original HW textures (left) to Onslaught version (middle) to the new improved Onslaught version (right). ![]() Last edited by Durandel : 22nd Sep 06 at 10:49 AM. |

Well, I've had a very nasty cold (man-flu) for the last couple of days so I've done a lot of tidying up and finished off loads of stuff I messed about with ages back.
I've raised the number of included maps from 224 to 379 using selected HW conversions and Wraiths map collection. I've changed the asteroids and crystals for debris and wrecks. I've redecorated the Somtaaw Command Base. I've disinfected and improved the original nomad moon textures, added team colurs and used them for the Berserker moon (I was never happy with my old textures). I've added two new map backgrounds. I've changed the game cursor. I've recoloured the repair beam effects. I've made projectile fire visible. I've changed the harvesting effect. Relative to earlier versions of Onslaught, I've increased research times, decreased resourcing efficiency, reduced the power of some ships and generally made the game harder. I'm just updating the menu graphics, then I should be finished (tomorrow most likely). I'm almost sorry that it's done. I feel really crappy, and doing the mod has taken my mind off it. |

It's done. Everything I have thought of since the last release has been either included or just didn't work. I'm have not updated the website yet, but the download is available at:
http://dreamlauncher.co.uk/onslaught/onslaught4.zip Here's a screenie from the mod. I'm too tired to mess about getting more decent shots. Feel free to post your own though. ![]() By the way, please try the new "Hints" button on the main game menu, and look for a map with nebula in it as I've made some changes there too. |

I was useing the default resolution of 16 bit 640/800 (i think) but apparently my computer shows a color pallete better than yours, or it is just a bad screenie.
All screenies I take are done with full model detail and highest model quality, so that they are good pics. I play this mod with the lowest settings i can go because I have a Compaq. YOU WANTED ME TO POST LOTS OF SCREENIES!!! Last edited by Total Entropy : 14th Oct 06 at 4:35 PM. |

The latter is a bad screenie.
The colours are reduced from 32 to 16 bit depth. Thats why the "colour map" is odd. I reduced resolution to 800x600 specificly for those shots. I am currently playing at 1280x1024 and could probably play at 1600x1200. Wallpapers for the masses...:!: |

I particularly like my screenie for the Command Center, would make a great desktop.
EDIT: I have now made an amazing 1024*728 Wallpaper! I will send it to anyone that wants it, as I can't post the actual picture. Last edited by Total Entropy : 14th Oct 06 at 4:34 PM. |

Make zips up to 5 MB a piece, and e-mail them to info at conram com.
I will prepare a Onslaught sub album to Cata at my shots site, www.hwshots.hwaccess.net. I'll set you up with permissions if you go register there. Extremely easy to use... I'm back and feeling better. Homeboy, sorry to disappoint you but that logo was my original. I forgot to get permissions, so I didn't use the new version which combined mine with yours.
However, I've spotted a pretty big problem with Onslaught 4 and so have prepared a v4.1. If you can get me permission I'll include the improved logo in it. |
