Transparent avatar

It took me hours to get something like this working, and another hour to get a host that didnt happen to be messing up. Now im gonna see if it actually works.

And another thing, what do you have to do to get a custom avatar working in these forums? Assuming there IS some way i could do it..

Ok, if it still isnt going to work, ive had it, im not going through any more trouble for some stupid little picture..

You'd think that photoshop or paintshop pro or something could do something this small easily, but nooo

ok I tried adding this as your avatar and made it transparent, yet due to it's size it looked awful due to the dithering being white on it's edges.

Post the source images here, without down sizing them and I'll see if I can put it together in photoshop and add it as a transparency.

The source images have transparent backgrounds and so they are saves at psp (paintshop pro files), they wont upload to my host, since it is for images only (they dont recognise unusual image formats). Ive tried this in photoshop too but i could only find the options for transparency in painstshop pro.

So im gonna need you'r e-mail or something and ill mail it to you. Thanks for trying to help.

Oh yea, let me know if you need it in a certian format, i gata go out right now but i'll be back around 4:00 (GMT-6:00) and i'll mail the source pics to whoever post the e-mail.

Dude, you have one BIG problem. PNG + Internet Explorer = No transparency.

The only thing that IE reads with trans is GIF. IE's PNG interpriter is base, and can't even handle the alpha channel.

View it in Netscam or Mozilla and it looks perfect.

Edit Edit: heeeeeey, is this just a scam so you can get your own Custom Avatar? I see right through you. Busted.

ok its not exactly perfect.., i think it happend when photoshop tried to reduce the colors, ill try it again in a bit..

Heres 2 more tries tho

After a few tries, it seems there HAS to be some kind of border, so this is the best i can do..

There will always have to be some sort of border, until we get a web-based image format that supports alpha-blending. Man that'd be cool.

it looks horrible with transparent bg. just put a 1pt stroke around it. then it'll be good for custom avatar.

ok the transparency will not work. You get awful white dithering lines around it. I suggest you create a nice avatar using the layers you have and choose a bg color and have a solid avatar.

anything else will detract from the design.

That is, until I manage to convince somebody we need a web-format with alpha-blending. I mean, how could you not want alpha-blending? Antialiased lines on any colour background!!!
