You guys asked and we deliver

I'm running a Company of Heroes Map Contest.

Here are the details:

Map Contest: Tuesday, November 21st 2006 - Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 (3 weeks)

Official Map Contest Details:

Rules:

1. You must submit your map before midnight (12:00 AM PST) on Tuesday, December 12th 2006 to qualify.
2. You may submit up to ONE map each for TWO of the following categories:
a) 1v1
b) 2v2
c) 3v3
d) 4v4
Therefore you are allowed to submit a MAXIMUM of two maps total, and cannot submit more than one map per category.
3. You must post a screenshot (mini map and in game map), description, and download link to your file in this thread. You must ALSO e-mail this to me at ahenze@relic.com before the deadline. Please ensure your download link works or else you will be disqualified. I can provide hosting should anyone need it.
4. No custom decals, objects etc etc. This has to be able to be played in automatch by anyone.

Judging:

- Maps will be judged by myself (Relic Community Manager), the Relic balance team, and Relic developers
- Maps will be judged on creativity, originality, and playability
- More consideration will be given to maps made from scratch within the contest dates
- There will be TWO map winners chosen for 1v1, and one winner each chosen for 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 (5 winners total). If there are insufficient entries in one of the categories we will not select a winner for that category.

Prizes:

Each winner will receive:
1. A signed copy of one of the following Relic games (winner's choice): Company of Heroes, Dark Crusade, Dawn of War, Winter Assault, The Outfit
2. A Relic t-shirt
3. Relic prize pack (posters, magazines, other gear such as mousepads, Xbox faceplates etc)
4. His or her map used in the official Relic CoH tournament (coming in December)
5. Your map could POSSIBLY be entered into the official automatch rotation in the game if it is good enough, with credits in the automatch description to you! Please note that if your map gets selected to be included in the game, your map will be passed through an artist for polish and may look slightly different than your original. As well, if your map is selected, it will be some time before your map is polished and uploaded to the server, as has been in the past with Dawn of War map contests.

Thanks everyone, good luck!

Yes!! This is what I've been waiting for, and to all you people that say the mapbuilder is hard to use, that is a lie. All you have to do is use the relicwiki and its easy.

This is an absolutely fantastic idea Relic. Prizes and the possibility for map use in automatch rotation should be enough for tons of great map submissions. Thank you for finding a way to formally use the modding community.

Must we include things like, custom loading screen, in-game minimap picture, etc?

If they are not a must, do we get brownie points for them? They are a hassle for me, as the game itself does not include the tools to create these (.tga) files... therefore people with extra tools (like Photoshop) are at an advantedge

And another question, should all of our maps be suited for competition play? I notice you said these maps will be included in an upcoming tournament. I have ideas for maps, that alter the gameplay style, such as attack-and-defend...

I suppose I will just make competative maps for the contest anyway, and then make the other map ideas for just fun.

on a side note, are the overlay bugs going to be fixed in 1.4? I am sorry to ask questions on the topic, I am sure people at relic hear them frequently...

St. Marcouf

Release Notes:

St. Marcouf v1.0

Make sure you have the -dev command attached to your CoH shortcut BEFORE installing!

Elements of the 101st Airborne landed near St Marcouf on June 6th 1944. They met up with the 82nd and proceeded to capture the city of Carentan.
Their next target was the sleepy village of St Marcouf, located East of Carentan, in Northern France. Little did they know that the German opposition would be fierce, as the crossroads provided a vital strategic point for both sides.

Allies: Capture and hold the crossroads so vehicles and supplies can make their way across France from Normandy.

Axis: Prevent the allies from capturing the crossroads, so they cannot get vital supplies to the front line.

Thankyou. I love great feedback, as it is the only reward I get for creating these maps. It takes a lot of time to add this much detail.

May I ask everyone to have a look at my second map, "Near the town of St Lo" with a full final release. It showcases some more of my work.

Thanks goes out to the community for supporting me, Buggo for helping me with some problems (GREAT PR!) and Relic for making such a great game.
I was hooked on CoH from the time I played the demo... and just couldn't wait to get the full game and then start making maps.

that map looks fun AND professionally put together, nice work Henry666. I think I'll try my hand at a map or two. By the way has anyone figured out the specifics of the loading screen image, what dimensions/format does it have to be, what does the file have to be named, etc. Once I have that information I would be glad to produce a loading screen for maps entered into the contest, using Photoshop to make them look as much like the standard maps' loading screens as possible. Or are custom loading screens even allowed for the contest?
