Why did my volks die instanty?

I few days ago I played a 2v2 in which I sent a squad of volks (with 4 members, decent health) into a building, then a flame-engineer does a mini-flame and all the volks in the building die instantly.

Why? Does anyone have an explanation for this?

All of the probable and variatabe numbers just happened to have lined up for that one creating the perfect kill I guess.

Flamethrowers of all types kill primarily by critical hit. That's why they sometimes can have devastating results and sometimes none. They do some damage normally (more to weapon's crews) but if they don't score criticals straight away then the rest of the flame blast isn't going to do much until the next flame cycle.

The better the cover the worse you are against a flamer. Buildings being the worst and open roads and water being the best.

Perhaps that building area is cursed.

As a giant coincidence, my friend and I were just testing something out in those buildings yesterday.

Place an MG squad in the left building and a volks squad in the right. In about 1 burst, the MG squad will wipe out the volks squad. They seem to just line up at that window and die.

ive done it to another guys rifles with my volks i set the volks to faust just as his rifles had entered a building and then at the instance between the rifles leaving the map and entering the building they were hit by the faust and were all killed instantly.r

interesting... So you're suggesting that perhaps they were all "spawned" on the inside of the building at the same spot, then were hit with something hard before spreading out and insta-died.

If you could get that micro down... that's be a GREAT way to use the 50 munitions.

Oh my. That surely made my day. "Position under attack!" and they are already on their way to command point heaven.

It does happen. You can also spend 30 seconds flaming a MG team with little appreciable effect. Flamers are a bit random.

Well im not so sure about this but I think that the rifleman squad at the left side might have gotten a lucky shot along with the flamies.... i dunno O_o

Your Volks died because the random numbers behind the game all pointed in that direction. Get over it. The game wouldn't be interesting if every action had a 100% predictable reaction.

I think this case is on the limit of what should be random and what not. A game is not interesting if a big enough coincidence can beat anything (Militia beating Bomber in Civ1 FTL :-).

The militia swung their swords, causing a air compression, and the resultant pressure wave just happened to push a moderately sized angular rock into the jet intake of the bomber, causing it's engine to flame and crash to the ground.

Likewise, all 4 volks just happened to have elevated blood pressure, and the heat from the flamethrower caused fluid expansion in the volks' blood vessels just as the high pressure blood was in the heart, causing all 4 volks to die of a rupturing heart.

I have that sort of thing happen to me fairly often. Usually to Pioneers doing excessively quick damage to infantry. I'm tired of seeing like .3 sec puff from a flamethrower torch a whole squad out in the open.
