As mentioned in this week's Tales of Heroes Audio Discussion and el_leeto's thread.

This week, on the evening of Friday April 13th 2007 to Saturday April 14th 2007 -
I encourage ALL of the CoH Community to login Relic Online and have your Accounts
Idle over night so we can finally break the January 14th 2007 record of 1753 players.

Find your appropriate Time Zone and designated Login time:
- London UK: (GMT) 12:00am GMT on Saturday April 14th 2007
- East Coast US: (GMT-05:00) 7:00pm EST on Friday April 13th 2007
- Central US: (GMT-06:00) 6:00pm CST on Friday April 13th 2007
- West Coast US: (GMT-08:00) 4:00pm PST on Friday April 13th 2007

For other time zones, please use common sense to determine the appropriate time.

Why bother? i'll file this under biggest waste of time ever. This will skew data, the peaks should be a natural one as the game gets more member (or not) and not some artificially elevated number.

Why?

To demonstrate the true power and determination of the CoH community.
Also, it would make a great bed time story for all the baby pandas out there.

Your choice.

Don't be a negative nancy, Mordakii It may be quite useless, but it will be fun nonetheless. I'll be there, just for kicks.

But your sinister master plan depends on other people. Therefore, it will fail.

Those times suck. Aim for a weekend mid-day when you KNOW there's going to be more people on anyway.

And when this fails miserably, will you concede that the CoH multiplayer community is, in fact, on its deathbed?

I did not setup the times.. if you can't be there actively, try and have your computer idle online.
I am only making a reminder announcement of what Bridger had said this week's Tales of Heroes.

I apologize if this effort seems futile or worthless to anyone.. (way to demoralize the community)
But, for those of you who are willing to support this event - I will see you all there.

Thank you for your time.

This is a complete waste of time. I'm sure others are thinking "What is the point to having players idle to break some worthless record?"

I see no benefit whatsoever to doing this and hence won't make any special effort to. It was a silly idea when I first read it on Gr.org, it was silly when they announced it on ToH and it's silly now.

You know what, folks? If you don't like the idea, don't participate.

Bitching about "natural peaks" and whatnot is silly - so what? What's the harm if people want to all get on at one time?

This serves no purpose other then to skew data. I would like to see that number rise or lower naturally.

I bet it would be broken on its on with 1.6 patch if they add in arranged teams to a 2vs2 ladder.

I'd always understood that the peak field was included in the Relic Online interface for the purpose of recording the highest number of players online at any one time. Trying to artificially inflate the peak kinda renders the information this field records invalid.

Personally, I'd like to know the genuine peak figure so that we can see whether or not interest in the game is picking up or not. If the current 1753 is beaten then we won't know the true picture.

I agree this isn't the end of civilisation as we know it - just my preference. The CoH community whilst relatively small is already strong. I just don't see that a stunt like this one achieves a great deal.

As an aside, I recall the highest peak was in fact 2017 during the beta.

for all of you complaining about skewing data, i picture you sitting in a 6x6 room with a massive florescent light above you, analyzing charts with your plethora of pens jutting from your pocket protector.

do people just look for things to be uptight about?

"SWEET RAPTOR JESUS THEY ARE SKEWING TEH PEAK DATA!"

I'm taking bets one the numbers,

Odds are going to be as such

Under Record Pays 2:1
Over Record Under 2000 Pays 1.5:1
Over 2000 Pays 2.5:1
Over 2500 Pays 5:1
Over 3000 Pays 10:1
Over 5000 Pays 100:1

Now taking bets, Of course Odds are based inbetween eg Over 2000 MUST be under 2500.

Anyone????

Hah, pointless. If you really want to show how awesome the community is, make the devs give a crap about the game outside of when it comes time to release expansions.

I'm going to be rather disappointed if all we can muster is just a little over 2000 people. You're telling me that a game that has sold countless titles can only muster......2000 people 6 months after its release date?

I'll be there but I wish the CoH online community got a little bigger.

Please someone point out where the fun is in idleing your computer to break a pointless record, I just cant see it. My brain has a seizure every time I try to imagine it, something along the lines of watching paint dry......

(FYI I may well be on, I love this game, but I sure as hell will be playing it, and yes I love accuracy and truth in all things )

LMAO that is pathetic. You are resorting to leaving your accounts on just so the game can finally break its record that has been there since January? That is pathetic. We need more people actually playing the game!

5 patches since September. Thats pathetic. Anyways since I like the game I will do it. But I think its dumb that we are resorting to this method. The problem is that over half the people that purchased this game dont play online. C&C 3 is the # 1 selling game in most places, and its numbers are around 10k or so. According to an EADev who logs in occasionaly and goes to the lobby to play games with people. Which I think is rather cool. We once had 5 EADev's come in and play a 4v4.

Did you honestly think that 1700+ players would visit the two websides where there were post advertizing this action, AND would care about it, AND would be able to go online at the times given?

So determination is equal to zero.

But, as long as they will be people to play with I don't have to worry. Even if it will be 100 people. I dont really care if there's 100 000 players or 1000. This is the greatest RTS game since Starcraft. Without stupid storyline like Warcraft III or pathetic movies like C&C. The COH2 two makes me even more excited and I will sure buy it.

I say such attempts say nothing. What tito wrote is total crap.( and beside this after reading up your other posts...you deserve a place in my ignore list )

I dident know its "CoH is dead" time again. Has happend so often in the last 6 month. I cant count how many people said that. Even after the game came out. Even in Beta people screamed "oh coh is dead because i cant play mirror matches.." all nonsense.

Who cares about how many people are on on a certain time ? Also i whouldent judge "the community" by such a "record attempt" Look through the modding section and you see so much determination. Its all good.

It would seem I missed this memo.

I was on last night, but nowhere near the listed time. Oh, well...it seems a futile act anyway; Relic knows how many people actively play the game. Bumping up a single metric doesn't really do much for anyone, does it?

I was online last night trying to help with this record attempt but ya know what happened?... Relic Online kept dropping me from the server for absolutely no reason, so I then started thinking to myself ""OMG STUPID ISP MUST NOT WANT COH TO BEAT EVERYONE! EVEN THOUGHT IT RULES!!!"" so insteed I went and played some single player skirmishers but was still thinking ""hope Buggo or someone makes my isp love CoH\Relic Online with a side thought of Relic needs to try and balance this game a bit better otherwise I shall start claiming I could balance a game better then their testers"" lol

Regards,
IH
