Badges Mod 1.1 [updated 15/03/2009]

Update 1.1

Be aware that a modified armypaintercolours.lua file is included to add the extra badges, but all the extra colours are available in the army painter inclu Tentacle Pink.

I have added 15 more space marine badges from chapters that are ref in defaultchaptercolours.lua. A couple of the badges i pulled from the Lexicanum & converted them from png to dds, also Hanger8's blood drinkers badge was plain black so i added some colour to it.

Here's some replacement badges that i could find for the space marines, orks & eldar. Resized & converted to DXT3 dds' in photoshop.

Space marine badges by Hanger8 & Joril

Ork badges by Dmitry Rommel

Eldar badges by Aralez

Place the Data folder in "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war 2\GameAssets" or your installation directory if different. To remove just delete badges as required.

You also need to have the -dev command added to the end of your game shortcut so it looks like this where

"C:\Program Files" is your game directory.

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 15620 -dev

Mediafire:
Badges Mod 1.1

Dawn of War II Heaven
Badges Mod 1.1

Sga Version
I've moved Tentacle Pink to the end of the lua as other people without this colour enabled will see your colour scheme differently in game.

It's not in an sga archive if that's what you mean, it's in folder format for use with the -dev shortcut.

So im assuming these just replace the old ones we have with new spunker ones. Does it disrupt multiplayer as DP asked?

If you packed it up into a custom archive it would work online as it just replaces the look of badges already ingame.

There was an Armypainter-Mod for DoW I, where you could see all the units in the painter. Do you have an idea what files to change, to do this in DoW II also, so we don't only see the heros there?

With the .sga format do we still have to use -dev?

Would really like to be able to use custom badges online, and despite the other people not being able to see them, well who cares.

Surely there's some way to implement the skin-installer that was made for CoH? That allowed custom skins to be installed and still allowed ranked play.

Since people seem to say this works online, what does your opponent see? If you've just replaced the local versions rather than adding badges I'm assuming they see the originals. If that's right then great work, but it's a shame that Relic/THQ/Microsoft killed a great feature.

I did think that would be the case. All I can say is "yah-boo-sucks" to Relic/THQ/Microsoft/whoever decreed such personal things as badges wouldn't be allowed in DoW2. If enough people are interested in having local-only versions I'll

I'm glad people find the Texture Tool useful. I don't get much feedback, but it's useful when people do tell me things that don't work rather than ignore them and just not do whatever they wanted to do Based on another thread that said DoW2 textures could be modified, but that they're just DDS files (and that you only get three colours, so it uses colour channels of the DDS instead of black and white images per colour) it looks like the tool will be redundant for DoW2. Personally I'd rather stick with six layers (which we never thought was enough) than try to work with just three!

I think there is an additional layer in there that we aren't aware of atm. I was trying to create a new banner texture earlier and got it spot on with what I wanted, the only problem was the entire banner had the accessory colour sheen to it.
Also IB I found out a little while ago I could actually get new badges in the game without overwriting old badges .

Four colours is still worse than six colours though, especially when we always used to want seven or eight to pick things out properly

It sound promising. Maybe "the decree-er of stupidity" hasn't completely ruined the game then (although I guess it'll still be user-only).

Yeha I'd take a guess at it being end only, especially since it requires .lua editing.
Maybe they might introduce it in a patch a year down the track and are just protecting their pre-order gear or something for now.

More badges

I'm just showing something I've been working on. I have been working on adding the other SM Chapters that Relic has listed in the .lua. So far I have 42 SM badges.

mred: Most of that is Hangar-8's badges from the look of it. At least newage has managed to work out how to get extra badges listed, though.

Zetrial: I don't know, but I doubt it. The pre-order stuff would either a) need to be on both machines anyway (any weaponry etc, if you used it) or b) isn't allowed in online play and so wouldn't be shared like badges and banners are anyway (I'm sticking with DoW1 so I don't know).

@mred & IBBoard: I never said that the Badges were my work. I was showing that it could be done adding extra badges into the game.

Should I release to public I will ask permission of the peoples work I have used. Most of the badges are Hanger-8, One or two IBBoard, and a few others.

I have also reworked the colors to match more the GW website, added 10 new chapters that Relic had listed in the lua files. I also have some wargear stuff added like everyone else is doing, but still lvl restricted. If ppl would like to DL I will start new thread.

I was not trying to hijack this thread just wanted to showing that more badges could be put into the game.

Moore chapters ? Give it to me...
Moore permissions ? This will take time...... But they are worth to wait.
As there are bagdes,,,,where are the banners ? I know there is only one showing by tarkus ( and the standard bearer in mods ) .
And then....Even some of you modders know how to change, when will someone make a batch to build in personal chapters ?
Anyway...thx for this mod JAY .

Quick question:

I'm working on my own personal badge mod, yet I'm running into some problems. Using Hangar 8's badges and resizing to 128x128 and then saving in DTX3 dds format works for some badges, yet not for others.

For example, replacing the Blood Ravens badge with H8's works perfectly fine. Yet replacing the Angels of Redemption seems to cause a lot of graphical errors. The intro movies no longer display, the main menu is black, etc.

Are there any other settings when converting a DoW1 badge to DoW2 that need to be set? I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS1 with the nvidia dds plugin.

EDIT: I'm also using -dev rather than building a sga. Could this be the issue?

I don't know what you've done wrong with the movies & main menu, replacing badges shouldn't affect those.

I'm using photoshop 7, which is considerably older than yours & as you can see from my mod i didn't have any problem converting badges, inclu Angels of Redemption .

Open up the older tga, resize the image to 128x128, save as DXT3 ARGB 8 bpp | explicit alpha, in the drop down menu below this select 2D Texture & make sure Generate MIP Maps is selected & save.

All badges in the badge folder should be in the same format.

Fantastic mate! waiting for .sga vers
Does it changes armors colors disposition? I never liked to have blueheaded termies with my ultramarines...

(i'd also love to see red/white helmets around...)

[EDIT]

Could you think about adding also Pre-heresy Legions banners ??

I love playing with some traitor legions like Luna Wolves & Deathguard...
