CoH - Modern Combat! "Monthly Overview - August 2010" (August 25th 2010)
-------------- Monthly Overview - Auguast 2010 --------------
Here we are again, with some new highlights of our progress. The month has been busy and successful again, so we have got plenty of stuff to show. One big achievement is the successful implementation of custom infantry models. So, finally we are able to import our US-Soldier, including all the necessary equipment. You may not know how much effort Darkbladecr has gone into this (animation, rigging, etc.), but let me tell you that this is nothing less than another milestone in our development! At this point we also want to thank Michael Taylor (mike@cyrid.com) for providing us with the US Soldier model. Some of the infantry skins are still to be done, but we don't want to leave you without at least a first impression of it. Just take a look at the crew of the M106A3 Mortar Tank. Except the bare head, the whole model is new, with proper body armor, helmet, comunication, etc. This enables us to create infantry as we need it, completely without model mixing, which harms performance. Now you say, "M106A3 Mortart Tank? Did i see that ingame already?". No you didn't, it's one more vehicle that has been properly imported and animated in the meanwhile. The same counts for the Type 59d Main Battle Tank, the Type 89 Tank Destroyer and the ZBD2000. They are all completely functional ingame by now. Here are some more pictures of them in action. If you don't know where you can find these units in the faction layout yet, or you want more information about the mod, we suggest you to have a look at our homepage. Also make sure to drop a comment on our forums. See you on moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com. -------------- Heavy Armor approaching!!! - August 8th 2010 -------------- The development of CoH: Modern Combat is already quite advanced, but you didn't get to see what some people would call "the face of the US Army", yet. One of the most modern main battle tanks of the world, the M1A2 Abrams! Of course it is not missing in our Mod, and today we will show you the first renders of the basic variant, which will be available at the end of the right Armoured Warfare tree. On the other side, the People's Liberation Army does not hit the battlefield without a competitor. They field the ZTZ-99, the most advanced chinese main battle tank. With it's fully-stabilised 125 mm/50-calibre ZPT98 smoothbore gun it is going to be a real threat even for the most modern western tanks. Last but not least, we want to give you an update to the currently shown layout of the PLA tech tree. The Type 96 MBT is going to be replaced by the Type 59d. Even though it is a quite old tank, it is still fielded in very high numbers, which made us think that it may fullfill the role of the work horse in a better way than the Type 96. The Type 96 will still be available as a part of the Last Push doctrine ability. As always, we appreciate feedback in our forums. Watch out for future releases on moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com -------CoH: Modern Combat - Monthly Review July 2010 -------- Hello CoH: Modern Combat fans, This month we are back with an exclusive preview of one big ass gun, the M-109 Paladin. The Paladin self-propelled artillery fires 155 mm shells to clear out stationary targets. It will be available for the US Forces as part of the Armoured Warfare Doctrine. In a short video we want to show you how the Paladin does it's job ingame, we hope you like it! M109-PALADIN DEMONSTRATION For those of you, who want to have a closer look at this beast, we have prepared a set of high quality ingame screenshots. As always you're welcome to post feedback on our forums. Watch out for future content and see you on moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com -------CoH: Modern Combat - Monthly Review June 2010 -------- Welcome to our monthly overview! It is two weeks ago we showed you our latest in-game trailer, in which we showed off many new in-game units. Since our last overview we have progressed a lot with implanting models in-game, but also realizing our doctrine's more and more in-game. The mod is coming along in a steady progress, and we are pleased to show you our progress on a monthly base. Further more we have some real U.S. firepower to show. The Stryker! The Stryker ICV (Infantry Carrier Vehicle) is the most versatile vehicle of the U.S. Army. It comes standard equipped with a manned M240 machine-gun. Unlike the Bradley, the Stryker can carry infantry around the battlefield and provide fire support with it's armament. The Stryker can be upgraded to the Stryker FSV (Fire Support Vehicle), which results in the manned machine-gun being replaced by a remotely operated M2 .50 cal machine-gun. The upgrade provides more firepower to the Stryker, but also removes the possibility of having it's gunner killed. The Stryker MGS (Mobile Gun System) provides the U.S. forces with a powerful anti-tank unit on the battlefield. Equipped with a 105mm gun, it packs a good punch against armoured PLA units. Don't forget to check out our Forums to discuss anything regarding our mod. Thank you all for your interest and your feedback! See you on moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com -------CoH: Modern Combat - Ingame Trailer No.2------- Hello CoH: Modern Combat fans These are exciting weeks indeed. On the last weekend we presented our doctrines to you. This has been a huge amount of work already. And today, just one week later, we come to you again with another exciting update. I am proud to present our second ingame trailer movie. It showcases a lot of units from the tech trees, which you already know from screenshots. The following units are featured. PLA: Builders, Militia, Soldiers, Type 69 Rocket Launcher team, All Terrain Mobility Platform, Type 82 Multi Rocket Launcher System. USA: Riflemen, Humvee, Bradley (incl. TOW ability) Enjoy! >>> TRAILER No 2 <<< Discuss this trailer on our forums. We appreciate all feedback! See you on moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com ----------Monthly Overview - May 2010 ------------- Hello Modern Combat fans, This weekend we come to you with another monthly highlight. Some of you might have seen it already, since it has been published on our homepage two weeks ago already. If you didn't, one more reason for you to keep checking our site more frequently. I am not exaggerating, when I say our coders are doing an amazing job. The backbone of our mod is shaping up very well. As you know, we only published the non-doctrinal tech tree layout for both factions so far, because we wanted to get a good picture of it before we designed the doctrines. This way we hoped to be able to underline faction characteristics and build up synergy effects. The time has now come, and we are proud to present you the doctrine layout for both of our factions. Of course not everything is set in stone, but this will be our basis unless striking problems appear. Our coders have already made good progress on the implementation of the doctrine's, as are most of the models are done as well, so we are progressing. You can find a graphical doctrine layouts for both factions on our homepage moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com. This is probably the easiest way to get an overview, but you can also find them listed at the end of this newspost. However we don't want to present you a plain list of abilities. We will present you the general concept for each faction and go in-depth about the purpose of each doctrine. U.S. Forces: The U.S. forces in general are known for their versatility. Soldiers are trained very well to easily adapt to many different situations. The variety of special equipment is helping them in this regard. To underline this characteristic, the player will be able to adapt to certain situations by equipping his riflemen with the needed tools. Each doctrine will unlock a specific riflemen upgrade or ability.
The PLA is the defending army against the US invaders. To build up the needed defences, each doctrine will unlock a different type of mine.
Thank you all for your interest and feedback. Keep your eyes open for some special release this month. See you on moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com. ----------------------------------------- US Doctrines Quote:

CoH: Modern Combat -Wallpaper1 ![]() -----------Monthly Overview - April 24th 2010 ----------- Welcome to our monthly overview! It has been only three weeks ago since our last overview, but that does not keep us from producing a lot of work. Chopin has joined our team as a concept artist, and has a lot of knowledge about the Chinese architecture and culture. He has been busy drawing concept art of the PLA headquarters and the core Tier buildings. We are not going to re-skin the current buildings in Company of Heroes, instead, we will build them completely from scratch, giving the PLA faction characteristic looks. Keep in mind that it is concept art, so it's not the final product, although it certainly is a very important guideline on designing new buildings. The looks of the buildings are a mixture of both a typical Chinese building style, combined with an industrial look. The first building is the PLA Headquarters, the core building of the PLA faction. The Tier1 and Tier2 building follow a southern chinese style and are focused mostly on infantry training. In contrast the Tier 3 and Tier 4 building are more influenced by industrial looks, designed to produce heavy vehicles like the Type 96 Main Battle Tank. But have a look yourself: If you didn't do this already, you should have a look at the PLA tier layout on our homepage to get a better idea about the use of these individual buildings. If you want to discuss about our mod or give critique, don't hesitate to drop by on our Forums. We sincerly hoped you have all enjoyed another of our monthly overviews. Our next overview will be on May the 29th. See you on moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com -----------Monthly Overview - March 2010 ----------- Welcome back to our third monthly overview! We have a lot of in-game content to show to you this time, but we're starting out by welcoming another team member. Wiseone9 will be joining our team as a coder, and is already well-known in multiple Company of Heroes communities. He's been working on modifications like the Specialized Production Mod and the Company of Heroes: World at War mod. Let's give him all a warm welcome! Next up are the in-game screenshots. Our mod is still a Work In Progress, so you have to keep in mind that not everything is finished yet. First of all we have the Soldiers to show. The Soldiers are the backbone of the PLA, and are much like the grenadiers. Although having less men in their squad than the Militia, they do have better assault rifles compared with the Militia. The Soldiers can easily be distinguished by their Type 07 camouflage, which is the latest digital camouflage to have entered the PLA. The Soldiers represent the modern day and well-equipped troops from the elite divisions of the People's Liberation Army. They use the QBZ-95 with a scope. Next up is the Rocket Launcher Team. The Rocket Launcher Team will provide mobile and flexible support against armoured vehicles from the U.S. Army. The squad exists out of three men, two of which are equipped with the Type 69, a Chinese version from the RPG-7. The other soldier is equipped with the Type 56 assault rifle, which is a Chinese version of the AK-47. This squad is ideally suited for hit and run tactics against armoured vehicles, but they cannot stand up against infantry squads. The Militia squad is much like the Volksgrenadiers. They are cheap, reliable and provide reasonable amount of firepower. Militia squads are equipped with the Type 56 assault rifle, and wear the Type 03 'Plateau' camouflage, which is strongly influenced by the Flecktarn camouflage worn by the German Army. The brown and black camouflage is quite effective in swamps and muddy environments. Last but not least, we have the builder squad. The squad is much like the Engineers in the original Company of Heroes. They can be upgraded with a flamethrower and the squad consist out of three men. Armed with a QBZ-95 assault rifle, just as the Soldiers, and are the primary builders of the People's Liberation Army. Their camouflage is the Type 99 woodland camouflage, which is similar to the former U.S. Army woodland camouflage, with the most notable difference is the use of an extra tint of green instead of khaki in the pattern. Many thanks to DemoSS for creating the skins, his hard work has payed off, as you can see in the screenshots. If you are curious about the lay-out of our factions, you can find the PLA lay-out here and the U.S. Army lay-out here. Don't forget to drop by on our forums, where you can ask questions and discuss the mod. With that, we would like to close this monthly overview, and we hope you enjoyed the eye candy. Thank you, and see on moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com -----------Quick update #1 + new community poll (january 14th 2010 Yes, this is right. Less than a week after the last big update, we already present you more footage. We stand by our word and release content on a smaller timescale than in the past. You definately want to check our site for updates more often! This time we present some more ingame screenshots. They are taken from CoH: MC - Trailer 1 and should give you the possibility to have a closer look. Enjoy =) In addition we would like to hear your oppinion in our community poll. The question this time is "What faction are you excited about the most?". Please vote and give us a reason, to give us an impression of what you like and what not. See you on the forums. ------------Press Release #6 + moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com goes live! (january 9th 2010) Hello Modern-Combat fans! Today we present you two news pieces at the same time! First of all we are proud to present you our new online-presence moderncombat.blacksandstudio.com! This goes hand in hand with a new collaboration with Black Sand Studios. We are sure that this new support will help speeding up our work on Modern Combat. In this context: A big thank you to Guedoe, the BSS Site-Admin, who made this all possible for us. And another big thank you to Sven aka "M4c", who did all the coding for this site. This site should make it easier for you to follow our progress and keep track of new stuff. From now on, we will release news and media on a shorter timescale, than we did before. Pay special attention during the next time, because we will provide you with a major update, including a lot of footage, very soon. Most of the media and content, that has been released in the past, has also been added to this site. You can find most of these information in the Mod Section. Make sure to have a look at the layout of the Modern-Combat factions or browse through screenshots and Renders under Media. In addition we want to present you: Press Release #6 Hello out there! This is not only our sixth press release, but also the first one, which will include moving pictures! We've promised it a long time ago and delayed it time and time again, but we hope the footage makes up for it. This trailer features the US HMMVW, the US A10 Warthog strafing run, the PLA Militia Squad, armed with Type 56 Assault Rifles and the PLA Type 96 Main Battle Tank. >>> Modern Combat Trailer 1 <<< As a proof that we have not been lazy in the meanwhile, we present you some more renders of fully skinned vehicles and weapons, which are partly implemented into the game already. At the end, we would like to remind you again, that all this takes a hell lot of work to do. To speed up the progress, we are always looking for competent people as an addition to our current staff team. In particular we are searching for people, who are good at modelling, animating, working with corsix mod-studio, UV-mapping and texturing. If you are interested, please post in our application forum. You'll find more details there as well. But you don't have to join our staff team, to help us with the development. Step into our forum and leave suggestions. This may be doctrine abilities that came to your mind, or just critique of an existing part, it all helps us. Stay tuned, see you on the forums! Last edited by OnkelSam : 25th Aug 10 at 2:28 PM. nice models! about OE, I will release tutorial this month, but it will contain only how to animate one tank. For soldiers and hand held weapons you will must create new bone system, and code it with OE. Maybe I will release tutorial about soldiers too(if I will understand how to make bone system and make to all soldiers use that bones...)

drools.
I like how you guys are staying away from the C&C theme. One based on spam and espionage and the other on tech and powerful single units. Looks amazing, cant wait. Edit: Just read your first press release, LOL i guess you are doing that approach. Oh well its still good. I guess I should have done my research first. |

-------------Press release 5 (July 26th 2009)
Hello fellow CoH-Modern Combat fans. It has taken us longer to do this press release as we wished, once again. We apologize for the delay and want to thank you for your patience. But it's not as if we didn't work in the background. Lots of things have been done and some have changed. The design of our presentation is just one of these changes. We hope you like it. More important than the presentation, after our last press release, some competent people have applied for a staff position in this mod. They have been a great addition and helped speeding up the progress of our work. Never the less, there is still a lot of work to do, so that we are still looking for additional people, who help us with the development. We are especially looking for people with texturing and UV mapping experience, as well as modelers, who have experience with animation. If you are interested, please contact me or post on our forums. Unfortunately, we cannot present you an ingame movie of our Humvee as promised in our last press release. After the addition of two new texturers, our modelers were busy to feed them with UV maps and real life wasn't helping either. But we are looking forward to present you a humvee movie in the near future. There are only some few animations left. But this is no reason to be sad, as our texturers did a great job, so that we can present you some more textured models. We hope you like it and stay tuned for further content. We are sharing ouer knowledge about how to create this stuff and how to set up everything for Company of Heroes. Have a look at Darkbladecr's tutorials.
But i hope you understand, that we would like to see our own models in our own mod first, before we share them. After Mod release, we can talk about that, if the proper aknowledgements are done. |

If your question is how to texture the models properly, that can be found here:
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?p=3597675 If you want help with texturing look on google for photoshop metal texturing and maybe even fpsbanana for tutorials. If you want the textures we made... well they are other people's work, and besides they would not fit the CoH models as they have a different UV map. |

We haven't decided that so far, unfortunately, so we cannot anything yet. However, even if it would be possible, we cannot guarentee the modern factions will be balanced out against VCoH factions. Quote:

Oh yes! It is very much in development, its just we have been doing a lot of work and haven't released our next Press Release. Everything will be explained in the PR, we have merged with Black Sand Studios and we are getting everything back in place before we start releasing anything.
Also sorry about the pictures, the bandwidth is out because of our work I assure you. You can see our latest progress on our modDB site here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/company-o...s-modern-combat |

Hello CoH - Modern Combat fans
Some of you may have wondered why there has been such a small amount of information pouring out of our gates recently. Let me tell you, this is not because of problems with our modding progress. We have a lot of great material waiting for you. The reason behind the delay is, that we are working on a new homepage, which should make it much easier for you to track our progress, get an idea of the mod itself and communicate with us. This takes a bit more time though, so please be patient. But, since christmas is around the corner, we don't want to let you down completely, of course. So from all the material, that's waiting for you, we have packed together a little small arms special. The following pictures showcase some of the weapons, which will be used by our new US and Chinese factions. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you can add one and one together, you already know what will follow this small arms special in the future. So stay tuned! We, the CoH - Modern Combat team-members, wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year. See you in 2010! |

Is it just me or does everyone believe that we're going to be fighting the chinese in a war? Almost every modern game I've seen is fighting against the Chinese and Middle-Eastern people. If we ever went to war with China it would seem to me that it would go nuclear rather fast as their giant military would overrun the U.S. rather quickly.

The US military is outnumbered not out gunned. The US military has technology far greater than the Chinese, a better air force, a better navy, a better equipped army. The Chinese just have numbers. You could even look at Korea how many soldiers the Chinese poured into the war. The thing about technology and numbers.
Technology allows you to outdo him everywhere. 2-1 K/d Ratio is easily possible. Numbers allows you to outnumber and out attrition an enemy. Also For Example: Nazi Germany in World War Two 5,533,000 Casualties Allies Canada 45,300 France 217,600 USA 416,800 UK 382,700 Russia 8,800,000 to 10,700,000 Not to start an argument btw. And World in Conflict is good example of if a Nuke should be used. |

@BattleBrotherMo
Well, we are in development of this mod for like 2 years now, way before OF Dragon Rising and such titles were made public. So i wouldn't say we copied any of them... The reason why we have chosen the Chinese as the 2nd army is, that it has some nice contrasts to the US arsenal and a huge arsenal of weaponry to pick from. Our goal is to create 2 factions that are diffrent from each other, while at the same time, the original Company of Heroes gameplay is conserved. Realism is not our main goal, so nukes will play no rule for us. Last edited by OnkelSam : 21st Dec 09 at 12:36 PM. |

Also, you have to take into account that, although it would be fun, most of combat in the middle east is insurgency, which does not work in CoH (every unit would have to be camo'd for the Taliban player, you'd have to implement civilians, etc). Plus, most of the maps would be either mountains or cities, which doesn't work too well either in CoH. china, on the other hand, is much more feasible.

Just making an observation, not an accusation. I am looking forward to when this finishes. The models are looking really good and will you add some of the weapons from MW 2. It'd be cool to see the 75th Ranger Regiment have the SCAR which they have had since April

The doctrines are not fully designed, so i will not give a final answer, but most likely there will not be that many more infantry weapons, than the ones that we already showed in this small arms special and in earlier press releases (M16, MP5, e.g.). There are some MG's missing and a RPG for the chinese, but that's it more or less.
I think we already have a lot of diffrent weapons right now. The SCAR is not too diffrent from what we already have, so it will most likely not make it in. |
