[MRIT: Mod] The Lost Return (again)

Multiple listening stations across the subsector have reported the presence of a small group of Astartes at several key defensive locations. The descriptions of the warbands tally closely, but commonly: the distance between sightings varies hugely; whilst the timing of attacks is often near simultaneous. Detailed reports have yet to materialise, and data on the attacks is scarce, and/or unintelligible. My worry however, is that these attacks are in fact the deeds of a single warband. But the question remains; How can they travel across the stars with such speed? The possibility of the renegades having developed some new form of Warp travel is distinct, and the tactical concerns this poses is a matter of significant importance, Considering the lack of activity of traitor forces since the end of the last War, if these reports are to believed, they would imply a new, troublesome threat. Needless to say, my team and I are currently on route for the last known sighting of this particular warband, my intention is to investigate the site and attempt to identify said astartes. The navigator tells me that we should arrive at Aeolus alpha in approximately three terran days, I shall continue to advise. Laertes +++ +++ Format: As’pathic (cipher) +++ +++ Sent: As’path Narthan Ca’auhl; 1.455.012.M42 +++ +++ Communique Begins+++ ++ MISSION DISPATCH, IMMEDIATE EFFECT ++ Faithful Laertes - I am not without knowledge of such troubling events as recently recounted to you, and collated by my staff from numerous Imperial agencies in the past few years. I have been notably informed that one or several Astartes ships of so far unidentified chapters have been occasionally sighted above numerous locations which you as well as the Ordo’s network have already marked. One location in particular needs be thoroughly searched for any further clue as to the origin, genetic legacy and extent of corruption of the Astartes warbands. You will therefore immediately divert from your original destination and head towards the derelict Ormantep Listening Station where the warp trails of one such craft lead and were lost. Your utmost discretion in the matter at hand is necessary, as is your habit, but I ask you to not petition any of the Space Marines chapters even if need should arise. I fear some of the Emperor’s Angels of Death have turned from His most beneficent light and as such, do not want to raise suspicion from the already uncooperative Astartes. Under His Judging Gaze, Laertes, do your duty. Inquisitor Lord Atreus, Ordo Hereticus Scarus. +++ Communique Ends+++ Thought for the day: In the shadow of His light lies the path to heresy. Wow! This is the second space wolf thread iv seen in the past week.
Are you thinking of teaming with Mehpistoned? His mod appears to be similar. Anywho, nice work on that big termie thingy in the previous thread.... That looks ouchy.... |

I only linked the previous thread to show the pedigree (Pun intended), the entire mod has undergone a radical redesign since then, most/all units will be redesigned and implemented. Our tech tree has also undergone significant changes, and well, is not really like anything you have seen before.
There shall be no merger, this mod is our own unique mod, specifically for only the 13th Great Company of the Space Wolves Legion, it is not intended as a fully fledged Space Wolf Chapter, it is instead a mod implementing a race which is radically different to any other current vanilla race, whilst still maintaining balance. |

Translation was smooth, and the warp quiescent, upon our re-entrance to real space we were met by the navy picket cruiser, Furibundus Lux. My rosette ensured our passage, and my ship is currently in high orbit above the fourth planet. The Navy Captain informs me that Imperial forces have mostly reestablished control over the system since the war, although there is still a large enclave of rebels on the third planet. However, the mining crews have returned to work on the Ormantep IV. As you advised, the original listening station remains abandoned; and shows no signs of recent activity. My team and I have effected land fall, and are now in the process of forcing entry. I shall advise. +++ Encryption Protocol: vermillion-Ψ +++ +++ Dispatch: Lord Inq. Atreus +++ +++ Recipient: Inq. Laertes +++ +++ Format: As’pathic (cipher) +++ +++ Sent: As’path Narthan Ca’auhl; 1.481.012.M42 +++ +++ Communique Begins+++ Devoted Laertes – May the Emperor’s light shine upon your searches, that they may be fruitful. The Lord of Mankind seems to smile upon our investigations; venerable Guiddo, my faithful autosavant, has managed to retrieve a fragmentary albeit instructive astropathic dispatch concerning the only survivor of the assault on Ormantep by the renegade sorcerous legions of the Archenemy. I enclose to you the vermillion psi-encrypted data, that your staff adds it to the eventual clues you will find, but suffices to know that in her fugue-state the combat-shocked survivor, an astropath named Fortuna, mentioned “growling, leaping beasts adorned with [what seems to be parts of power armour]” tearing their way through the Listening Station. Unfortunately, my former apprentice, my team has been unable to ascertain who sent or received said document. What little we know from it, besides the fragmented ravings of the astropath, is a sub-encrypted header that reads “The Lost”. So far, we have also lost all trace of astropath Fortuna and we have no reference past her assignment in Ormantep Listening Station. I’m afraid these elements point to either a large force of mutant beasts herded by the legions of the Ruinous Powers to do their unholy biddings or to another debased and feral renegade chapter of the Astartes that took the opportunity of the 13th Black Crusade to sever their bonds from Him on Earth. Be swift in your searches, Inquisitor, for we cannot allow such a taint to spread to other chapters of the Space Marines. Retrieval of any data concerning the adept and her possible location should therefore feature in your top-priorities if we want to secure a direct eyewitness of the events. By His Will. Inquisitor Lord Atreus, Ordo Hereticus Scarus. +++ Communique Ends+++ Thought for the day: Humanity is an ocean: if a few drops of the ocean are polluted, then the ocean is tainted. |

Just curious: are you "sunsetting" THIS SITE or is this project an extension of that older one that has been in dev for some time? Regardless, the Thousand Sons deeply appreciate the acknowledgement of our main rivals' appearance on the field of war. Much like what The Fallen is to Dark Angels, the DoW1 community is most grateful for this endeavour.

Concerning the old forums, the original nucleus team will decide what will become of it. As to the community appreciating the return of the Lost (ha!...ha!...), i don't know that, it didn't tell us, i just know we're having fun working on it and that suffices us. 13th are back! Fantastic!
And yes, we are too different to merge, but it would be great if we could cooperate behind the scenes (though obviously you guys are far more advanced than I am at this time). Since Wolf Lords presents a vanilla wolf company, and Thirteenth are a darker, more evocative and dare I say 'guerilla' faction, I see no reason why these two mods can't run very happily in tandem. If you need help with textures guys - let me know. I'm new to it, but my computer art fu is strong, and I used to paint the models to a high standard, so I'm very familiar with the detailing! Besides - I already owe you. Now I remember where I got the names Stormtower and Longhouse from! I think I read your tree a year ago and the names popped back into my head when I started my tech tree. But I really couldn't call them anything else - those names just FIT. All the best from a fellow wolf! |

You are welcome to use the names, I only really came up with them as the logical versions for the Space Marine buildings, although i'd admit that stormtower is something of a leap. But it fits with the Space Wolf ethos, which is the intention. As for collaboration, something could possibly be arranged, we shall see.

The sweep team incinerated the bodies, but thankfully, most incompletely, I have detailed several servitors to take several of the bodies back to the cutter, my surgeon should be able to glean some information from the autopsy despite the charring. Its clear to me that whatever happened here was furiously destructive. There's some serious anomalies however. Several of the bodies appear to be ripped apart despite their Power Armour wheras the defending humans have all been shot or stabbed. And My Master of Arms tells me that there were in fact three parties involved in this engagement, which he claims to be able to divine from the ballistic evidence, and I am inclined to trust his judgement. Its clear to me at least, that the battle here was extremely vicious, the amount of damage to the facility – whilst superficial – is extensive, Gregory has already begun analyses of the various bloodstains as well as the scorching and pattern recognition on the discarded casings, and my Master of Arms is completing a more detailed ballistics report which he claims will support his arguments, my apprentice Lia is conducting a detailed forensic sweep of the chamber which we believe to have been the last defensive position. Our findings I shall relay to you my Lord. Yours, Elias +++ Communique Ends +++ +++ Duty is its own Reward +++ Last edited by Julian : 10th Jul 09 at 8:36 AM. |

To expand on this being the coder here, I've simply had real life shitfests going on lately which has drained pretty much all time I had. However, already then the main part of the code was almost finished, so it's more a matter of finishing up the remnants (which are mostly bugfixes and abilities) and it should be good to go. When the rest of the team has time to play through it and tell me what bugs they find and what they feel remains to be coded, then it should only be a matter of hours from that point (assuming I head straight to coding, and I'm able to keep it together for the remainder of that time) 'til the code is in alpha stage.
There will be a very select few models (iirc all with textures, unless we get last minute additions) that will come with the alpha 1 release. If my memory serves me correct, that is limited to buildings only. Whilst Julian and Lleman will do the main PR campaign, if things start taking long with the code, I'll try to remember chiming in with an update to tell you that if nothing else. That said, it won't be done tomorrow, so give it some fair time at least before yelling "Kresjah, you git, where's our update?". ![]() |

hey kresjah, did you get my PM?
the 13th company have always had an appeal to me, feral and brutal, instant and yet timeless.... conquerers of time and space to all avail with much left yet to do and scavenging any and all weapons they can lay their hands on in order to do the Russ's work. I've always had the image of a venerable dreadnaut with a tri-claw like hand, with dual heavy bolters, appearing from a purple-green-orange and bright white rip in space time, crushing traitors into 3 seperate pieces while blowing the head off a chaos librarian. (yes I understand the 13th use no big vehicles, perhaps one rhino, or one predator, and I've always considered dreadnauts walking sentient coffin filled death monsters so I see no harm in the 13th having them) peace. 13th Company have no vehicles, IIRC, instead they have Wulfen, and the Gate Priest, who can teleport around the battlefied. This includes Dreadnoughts. They don't have the materials to replace those they have lost, so any dreadnoughts are dead long time ago.

Time for a very quick update. I've finished the main part of the coding, but it still needs some more polish even if this is just going to be an alpha. The coding is at best "coarse" and still has bunches of basic bugs that needs to be squashed.
So, give or take a few days, the code should be ready. However, I do rely on feedback from some of the team. Julian will hopefully be online tomorrow (or well, today... I say tomorrow since I haven't been to bed yet). Lleman is on vacation and has travelled outside of DoW range... should be back sometime this week, but not sure when. In other words, whilst I'm still not finished working, but a fair share of the release time right now depends on when the rest of the team is online. Hopefully I'll manage to iron out the majority of stuff tomorrow (today). --- As for details on what units are in and out, I'll leave to Julian to decide what he wants to unveil or not. Regardless, if everything works as planned, you will have you're answers in a few days. --- kindred: Indeed, I did... I just really didn't quite find what I was supposed to reply to it. |
