DoW40k: FOKaurava. thunderfire preview #1 -vote for us on moddb

The Firestorm over Kronus (FoK) team brings you a new chapter in Soulstorm's history! This thread will serve as a progress log for the team as they work on making the FoK mod compatable with Dawn of War: Soulstorm.

You will also be able to download the final release of the Firestorm over Kronus modification for Dark Crusade (1.2). The link will be given here when it is ready.

Release for DC 1.2!

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SGR5C7YE

Installer version:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FKY2IF1E

!enhanced and improved Ai will be a patch upload with updated templars and then on to SoulStorm. !

Multiplayer and Campaign files:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TXB7395P

copy the dow40k_dc folder over the normal one.
it should work fine

Features of this mod
:

A closer-to-Tabletop gaming experience with modified gameplay, win conditions, models and tech trees.

Army Painter with randomised models (i.e. you won't see the same model twice if you view a unit more than once) - this feature is only partly implemented at this stage.

An improved and extended UI that allow a truly Tabletop-range of squad choices, abilities and upgrades. Taskbar art is still being worked on so for now the racial taskbars may look a little odd.

Tabletop gameplay and squad choices for all factions, from the mighty Chapter Masters to the enigmatic Eldar Autarches. Equip your squads with a range of weapons and wargear straight from the pages of the Tabletop Codecies.

Rules on the sharing of content:

As with the Firestorm over Kronus mod and the C2C project before it, you may use most of the content from this mod as long as your credit the FoK team in your release. Content you are not allowed to use is listed in the mod's readme file and you should seek permission from the creators of those assets before releasing them with your mod.

Information about certain mod features:

Chaos: Defaults to a Chaos Undivided army list, and you can either choose Marks from your HQ in a 3rd-edition style ruleset, or you can choose from the Lord himself to use upgrades and abilities from the current 4th-edition Codex. This was implemented as a means to keep both 4th edition players and old school Chaos fans happy.

Space Marines
: Chapter Tactics are provided at your HQ, and provide tweaks to your army list that can make a large difference in how your force acts on the battlefield.

The SP Campaign is now playable and a lot less buggy than before, however there are still bugs out there and as a result it isn't 100% playable or stable. Report bugs in this thread or on our forums!

Patches for the Kronus edition will still be issued as and when they are needed. This mod features a huge amount of new models, textures, artwork and maps - don't be surprised at the size of the download

We hope you enjoy playing this as much as we've enjoyed developing it!

you can download the additional maps and campaign content here when available.

does this mean that campaign is already done ? or being worked on ? or still in a project dev step ?

all the campaign and multi player maps will be a separate download, to minimise the size of the main mod.

Will maps be separate? They should be I think, if they add so much file size, especially when you are making huge changes to the game that might not be to everyone's liking.

3 GIGABYTES of download? Ehh... can you separate the download into several parts...?

Often with big downloads, you'd get a download error after several hours of downloading, and it screws up the entire thing. Very annoying.

It is going to be split up. The first file (which we haven't seen yet) is about 700mb-1gb. The subsequent files will come later, including some other updates (AI included) and maps.

The post-installation size would be huge though, since the installation files are compressed.

Just a note before you all get scared, the AI is included, but not the most up to date one. It gives you time to report any bugs that are found, and can be corrected when Thud releases his AI Patch in a couple of weeks.

The AI works well now - it's rather brutal, especially with the Tech increase of Harder and Very Hard.

Boruta, SoB and DEldar aren't present yet, however, Gorb is hard at work getting some ideas for the DEldar, SoB are being made into Inquisition, with the Ordo Hereticus, and Daemon Hunters (not the mods themselves, we're using our own models etc for that, unless they wish to donate some stuff).

Also, to wet your appetite even more, internally, Gorb, Meloo, and Myself have some... "ideas" over Tyranids and Armoured Company (as a complete seperate Faction!). Not saying anything more, as they might not be a part of it, but there you go. There's interest at least. Now shush. No more questions about them - I'm not anwering them, and you've got a game to play, I think. Just a little while longer.

AI is going to be a patch up, though this one should still work pretty nicely... just be aware of tau and IG when you do FFA's for some reason team wise they arent quite as potent.

Also I don't follow the logic of putting the Firestorm over Kronus DC mod in the Firestorm over Kaurava SS thread. When I see 'DL link available' it suggests a Kaurava release.

well, thats what happens when the team decides to do last minute changes and the upload takes a while

the last minute changes are well worth it though as it fixes a lot of the close combat system.

Couldn't you upload attrib fix too? I don't think that forcing users to download the same mod (VERY BIG ONE) twice would add popularity to you.

I'm sure they have a reason for re-uploading rather than releasing a hotfix.

I think the main one would be it's best to have a working version available. I doubt many people would want to download a large broken file even if there was a separate fix now would they?

Hello!
Sorry, but what about just erase AC(Armoured Company) related files from Attrib folder for those who have already downloaded? It seems, that game are playable after that. Of course, for multiplayer gaming it must be redownloaded. But "for taste of things to come" it helps...

First of all, I can hardly think that doing a full re-upload will affect their popularity. By now, most people are either hardcode fans or haters, and a small detail like this won't sway them at all.

Secondly, IF (and note that I say IF) they have it packaged like SGAs, then it'll likely be more ordered and neat uploading it anew instead of having loose files lying around.

Thirdly, there's a certain nasty chance of quite a few people coming in going "OMG, THIS NOT WORK, HOW TO DO?!" and them having to point them to the hotfix (despite it already saying so in first post), and then they have to tech support because people fail to understand how to apply a patch. In such a case, it's far more beneficial to have a single, working upload.

Is this download going to have the new AI or the old AI? and is the future patch going to be patching the new AI or completely making a new AI?

solution:
make a fix AND upload a fixed version. Thus nobody will have to re-download. All happy.
Also, it wasn't packed in broken download.
Also, a new AI patch will be in a week. Read Horus post again. So it'll have old AI, teached how to handle new units maybe?
Also, the mod is amazing can't play others now (too bad compared to FoK) so waiting a new release...

since its not an installer, we cant use an upload to remove the files, and it would be likely your going to DL the whole thing again anyway.

we should have an installer done for the AI patch and such though when thuds done with it.
