[commission] Ultramarines Terminators
Another part of the immense Ultramarines commission I'm working on - Terminators!
This guy's the first complete of a squad I'm just about finished on. The client's also bought a load of MrJustin's excellent trenchwork bases which the Sternguard are being rebased on to. ![]() |

Nice work on the blue again - more airbrush?
Would you mind if I use this image when I launch the Secret Weapon user gallery? It's an excellent model to highlight on one of the Trench Works bases. Good choice on shading the white helmet with blues. Folks all too often go grey and create too much separation on their Ultramarines. |

I love the freehand work. It's nice and clean. It does have the look of an airbrushed highlight pass... which is to say it's subtle but it has that slightly grainy look airbrushing brings to a model. Excellent stuff by any measure.

The highlights are very subtle Sethero, but I like it. I've always been an extreme line highlighter but find Winterdynes method here to give a slightly more worn look, likes its been in the field for a while which i do like alot. I've always been into my WW 2 stuff so realism works for me.
Oh and the freehand he has done here is nice, but i personally prefer another example he produced previously which he is going to reproduce. Look forward to seeing what you others think on the subject! |

Damn you Winterdyne, I've just started to convince myself that Ultramarines weren't for me then you go ahead and show some thing as beautiful as these guys. Coupled with the Sternguard you have also done, I'm starting to sway towards the boys in blue once again.
Love the freehand on these chaps, the border on the shoulder guard on the last terminator is effing brilliant. Keep 'em coming. Last edited by Telliphas : 8th Dec 09 at 11:09 AM. |

Yeah, that's basically the trick - thick white band, then a thin line right across it, then do each key starting from the middle and work outward. Not hard, but you do need a good point. Then just separate out each key.
Btw: Vallejo Foundation White is the business for white freehanding. Very solid coverage even thinned with a bit of glaze medium for control. |

I like this blue.. it's not as light as they usually are a little darker colours they would make great Crimson fists
![]() PS. the power cords on the arms seem to lack some highlights? Last edited by [MaGiC] : 9th Dec 09 at 8:53 AM. |

Yeah, Secret Weapon Miniatures is my baby -- although Svart has now sculpted a brilliant line of 20mm bases for me.
@Winterdyne: This is really sharp work. You're on the short list of folks I would ever commission to paint my army. Really, nice stuff. If you would be kind enough to add your name to the squad photo I'll yank it for the gallery. |

Awesome - thank you so much for the photo!
http://blog.secretweaponminiatures.com/ I like the decision to paint the foot of the base in the same brown as the mud. This creates a nice contiguous look for the bases and works really well with the squad. The small section of hazard stripes on the last guy - in place of a whole yellow/black fist - is another great bit of freehand and an interesting choice. I like it! Great work on the heraldry for everyone too - all too often this is just neglected if people bother to attach those little shields at all. |

The red casing is a nod to the 90's paint scheme as well. Take a look at anything painted in the 90's by GW and the colour red is prominant across all of the figures. I'm a fan of the red casings on these guys, it's a toned down version of the old GW types but it works really well with the darker tones of the blue on the armour.

with my UM/ IF I use red bolter casings on terminators and veterans, it makes them stand out more and seperates them from the tactical companies a bit.
very nice models here... if this is TT standard I'd love to see your best! |

idk, for me i prefer not to combine two primary colors. I do favor black because if give the marines a more professional, darker feel to them. The tabletop standard is nice, im just saying even tabletop standard can have a lil bit of highlights so that the shadows of the model dont engulf the color.
