yes but look at how many other armies were put out in 3rd edition witch hunters, demon hunters, tau (kroot as a small portion), necrons. getting a random picture is in no way an endorsement of being made into a race especially with as saturated as the game is becoming with races. If you want to hold your breath for a new race go ahead but it will be a long while since they need to re-write all the codices now.

slann were in rogue trader and were one of the more outlandish concepts. They are sometimes refered to as "the old ones"(mostly since mid 3rd edition). IIRC, they had the ability to create weaponry from nothing and were powerful psychics.
Theres bits and pieces of fluff about them floating around, but the main points are they were an ancient empire before the Eldar, and in fact raised the Eldar technology and level of civilization (possibly even created the eldar). They also warned the eldar of their downfall amd the sowers of life on thousands of worlds including earth. They were enemies of the early necron empire and the c'tan. IIRC, the necron codex has the latest mentions of the slann, though i can't tell you where in it since my necron codex was stolen, though i think they were consistantly refered to as "Old Ones" in it and appeared in a couple of places as to the early necrontyr. pics of slann http://www.solegends.com/citrt/tsf18spaceslann.htm |

Slaan in the necron codex were supposed to be used just like they are in fantasy, only able to fight necrons but recent novels suggest the Slaan are coming back to the 40k universe to take on their old enemies. Slaan with guns. That will be a sight. But I guess since the Squats were annihilated by the 'nids they had to get someone to replace them.
Then again that skaven-like race in the 3e rulebook was supposed to have some stats made for them but it never happened so don't get your hopes up. |
