Install problems.. a possible reason and solution and perhaps to all other crash bugs
Alright between this game and Rome: Total War I was seeing red. Neither game would install on my machine. Both were giving me similar errors so I put a bit together and figured they might have similar problem..
On Rome: Total War's site they have figured that there is an actual physical media problem. A bad batch of disks was processed through and was either pre-damaged or badly burnt. This error would have an effect on older CD-Rom and DVD-Rom and writer type drives. Both of mine are from 1997 (hey you upgrade the computer, the peropherials don't usually have to go if they still work). I suspect that the problems with Relic on install (1305 and 1635 errors or hanging on avi or sga files) is due to this same error. As an experiment I took this to another machine with a much newer CD. I used CloneCD to burn an image and then made a new copy on a blank CD. And sure as sugar.. it installed. Great quality control there. You should sue your company for lost money. I bet most of these problems are arriving from bad disks rather then poor coding (After all the Beta did well.. so why should the disks suffer horrible crashes now?) One of the solution for this error on this bored is to buy a new CD-Rom or to update the firmware.. those solution will work.. it'll cause your drive to ignore the errors. That doesn't mean the game isn't missing bits or has corrupt components. The other solution was to eject it as it got to the stuck mode.. this could work in certain cases if it was timing out on errors.. it would reset the timier. However a really badly damaged disk could take hours to correct. -- In the end I solved my problem by using CloneCD to make a copy on a computer that COULD read the CD and use that copy on the clean media to install.. not a program error.. probably not Securom 5 just a simple media flaw. Fire your copiers Relic.. they obviously did no quality control. But the game does Rock ![]() Orikage |

http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=39462 would seem to indicate a bad disc as well, however, without confirmation that his cd worked on another system, can't really say that's the cause.

Hey Orikage;
I tried your approach, wow CloneCD is a great product. I made the images and then burned onto blank set of CDs and I get the same error... it appears that the .cab file is corrupted and yes, I agree the Qaulity Control on the production side is lacking.. This seems to be an on-going problem. Relic... You guys need to come up with an solution... its seems like a great game, if I could only get it installed. Thanks Gary ![]() |
