Mod Tools Up!!
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/147526.shtml
http://dlx.gamespot.com/pc/wh40kdaw...fo_6112916.html Please note that the tools are in a somewhat beta state, meaning that there still may be a few rough edges. But, by using the tool documentation available at http://www.relic.com/rdn/wiki we feel confident modders should be able to create a wide range of content for Dawn of War. We’ve also included some sample content, to make your lives easier. This content should allow you to work through some of the tutorials we’ve included in the documentation, and will also serve as examples to those more tech-savvy modders (and we know you’re out there! There is a new section in the Relic Developer Network, devoted to modding Dawn of War. You’ll need to create a login to access the RDN, and you’ll need to register if you want to edit the Wiki…but not to read it. We thought that since modding is such a community effort, you might like the ability to actually add to the existing documentation. Please make sure that you take the time to read the extensive Release Notes section of the Wiki, covering all the little quirks of the tools. Familiarizing yourself with some of these limitations and workarounds will probably save you lots of headaches down the road! Best of luck, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with! Special thanks to Bart Mazus from Relicnews and George Hornmoen from Relic for their part in supplying the tools and documentation. |

This is AWESOME.
However, I'm a little sad that you used fileplanet and gamespot to launch this from, since I have no account with either of them and don't plan on getting one with them any time soon. But like I said earlier, THIS IS AWESOME! Now I'm just waiting for a mirror to download from! |

This is wonderful! Thank you, Relic! Thank you, Tranj!
![]() (Okay, I have absolutely no idea how to use any of this. I'm sure many others will, though. I think the Map Editor isn't included in this release, or that the Map Editor is a separate thing. I was sorta looking forward to that, cause I figured I had a better idea of how to use that, but maybe I need to read the wiki when it becomes available and maybe the Mission Editor is the map editor, but I really have no idea because the Read Me -- while being packed with useful info -- doesn't explain everything, as Tranj said. I'm going to go mope now. Still love you, though.) Very, Very Much Love, Hanna Last edited by Hanna : 10th Nov 04 at 11:24 PM. |

Bravo Relic.. not bad considering DoW was released mid-Sept! Thank you SO MUCH for the chance to enhance your product!
I do hope you guys will upgrade the tools if you have a chance based on community feedback. I probably realize the tools are not supported but it would be a super PR move on your part to further tweak your tools for your faithful community! I also hope you fellas will be OKAY with being asked questions regarding the tools. You'd be one of the first in the gaming industry for your supre-receptiveness in this matter. Too many times, mod tools are published but the community must fend for itself to work around the inherent tool bugs (ie. Generals' WorldBuilder... Esshhhh!) Once more.. MAJOR THANKS for the Tools! Joy JoY JOY ! ! ! |

Exciting. Now the Tau Mod (insert some Tau mod ad which you think is really cool here) will be able to progress much faster! Maybe I even might try my hand at the mod coding too... let's start reading the wiki...

i hate to spoil the party, but unless the in-game interface is changed in order to allow users to download new maps automatically upon entering a game (ie: the 'Craft games), then no one is ever gonna have the new multiplayer user-made maps and hence really there's little point in the map editor, except for people don't play DoW online

I remember that Myth II: Soulblighter couldn't auto download maps either, and that was the rockest strategy game I have played or seen ever in all the wolrds ever the best the best!
But people still managed to download the most popular maps from community setup fansites that organised it well. Takes a little extra work, but if you like DoW enough then its probably worth it. Thanks for realesing the modding tools Relic. |

"easy downloading" on this site won't make a difference. less than 10% of the multiplayer population is gonna have these maps unless in-game auto-download for maps is put in
i know this because i've seen this situation before with Westwood RTS games. no auto-downloading in-game = almost no one ever has the maps. it may seem like a simple thing to come to this site and download the maps, but that's just not how reality works when it comes time for people to actually do it Myth II is a bit of an exception because as i understand it people had to go to websites and gets mods just to be able to play online after Bungie screwed those people over. so people might as well have downloaded those maps since the die-hards who had to mod the game to keep playing online were the only ones playing anyhow this phenomenon will not tranfer over to DoW. DoW is full of casual players who can access a functioning game out of the box. they're not gonna be bothered coming here or anywhere else and then manually downloading and installing maps in any significant numbers. which is unfortunate, but that's just how it goes. hopefully Relic will realize this and put auto-downloading of maps into DoW. it really is an essential function. |

DoWHQ.com has it mirrored, you can add it to the top thread, please use sparingly i only have 30 gb of bandwith and this is a big file.
I will also provide a great place for mods to call home (free mod hosting) and also have an extensive library of current mods for you all to download. When new maps come out, dowhq.com will be the place where people wont download the cool maps cos their too lazy not i have to keep up with all the mods, o noes, anyone wanna help? |

"THIS PROGRAM MUST BE RUN ON WINDOWS NT"
I've downloaded the mod tools, and I get this error when trying to run the installer. Does this mean that you can't run the mod tools on anything but Win XP/NT? I should have expected this, I guess. |

This editor package is CONFUSING.
Any chance we'll get some directions or instructions on how to use it sometime soon? I'm getting frustrated trying to figure it out myself. Still, I'm glad I have it though. EDIT: I redgistered at the RDN site so that I can see the Wiki now. Yay! |

People actually still use Win9x/ME? Wow! :argh: And I thought the dinosaurs were long since taken to pasture!?! :bandit: Just joshing with ya bud. I'm sure someone will release library files/modules that'll link with Win9x/ME unless of course .NET is involved then arghh... Win2000/XP are now ~4 years old and with Longhorn expected in 2006 I think its time to take the plunge. Trust me: ya won't regret it. Our 2000/XP boxes are pure bliss! |

Without wishing to repeat the thread again where I pointed out that Win ME users can't play online due to the insane load times, I'll just add that it makes more sense when you are on limited income to simply wait and skip the XP generation now, and use the funds to get the next generation when it comes. I cannot justify an XP upgrade to just play this one game. Or make maps for it... *sighs* I had the idea of making a map similar to the intro movie; Orc hordes on one side, smaller Human base on the other, central hill control point for lots of hero/flag related charging... Guess one of you guys will have to do it instead now. And I'll download it for solo play in a few months time... |

Ugh Titler.. you'll be waiting a mighty while before the next generation.. WinME->Win2000->WinXP transitions will be much shorter than WinXP->Win2006(?).. Don't wait.. Micro$haft is taking their time on this next evolution so no sense in waiting it out. Hell.. I could build ya a system for next to nothing to run what ya need. Power is knowing the parts and in having going sources. Then again.. maybe if we prostrate ourselves enough before the RELIC GODS then perhaps they'll release Win9x/ME compatibility mods. :bandit:
